Kira was not a patient person, but she cared a lot about Emmelyn and wanted to help the kind woman any way she could. After Emmelyn saved her life from being Raphael's home decoration, Kira had vowed to be loyal to her and helped her.
She had been waiting for the opportunity to pay back Emmelyn's kindness. So, when Gewen came with the news that Emmelyn's family missed her a lot and wanted her back to be reunited with her daughter, Kira thought she finally got the chance.
So, even though Gewen irked her so much, Kira bore with him and tried to listen to what he had to say..
Eventually, she had to give up because all the man kept saying was how awesome and amazing he thought she was.
Because he was drunk, he couldn't remember anything worth saying about his mission. He spoke endlessly about how he had never met anyone like Kira and how she impressed him a lot.
Not that Kira mind, though. No man had ever said those things to her, not even the ugly ones. And the fact that all the female patrons in this tavern looked at Gewen as if he was a sex god made receiving the compliments feel all the more special.
Finally, it was already late. Kira rolled her eyes and stood up from her chair. She patted Gewen on the back. "Hey... it's late. Don't you want to go home?"
Gewen got up too. "Yes. I do."
"Where do you stay?" Kira asked him. "I will take you there."
"You will?" Gewen batted his eyes, looking at Kira in awe.
"What choice do I have?" Kira grumbled. She couldn't let this man try to get back to his accommodation by himself. He was obviously new in this city and wasn't street smart. He must have quite a sheltered life. Just look at how easy he got robbed earlier today?
If he was any other man, Kira couldn't care less whether he would live or die, but Gewen already said that he was Emmelyn's friend too. So, of course, Kira couldn't let him die. Kira assumed Emmelyn would feel sad if Gewen died.
"You are so kind, Miss Kira," Gewen murmured. He whispered to her ears. "But... I don't remember where I stay."
"Tsk..." Kira clicked her tongue impatiently. "You are really useless."
She tapped her fingers on the table and tried to think of the options. She could find another inn for Gewen to stay in and pay for his accommodation.
However, at this time of night, most places would have already been closed. It would be tiring to drag Gewen from one place to another just to look for a vacant room.
Should she just leave him in this tavern and pick him up tomorrow morning? She was very tempted to do it.
Finally, Kira let out a long sigh. She took some money and put it on the table to pay for their drinks. Afterward, he took Gewen by the arm and led him out of the tavern.
"Let's go back to my place," she said.
Kira decided it would be safer to just bring Gewen to the royal palace. She was provided with a nice big chamber in one of the buildings inside the palace compound and she could come and go however she pleased.
Everyone in the palace now already knew who she was and let her be. That's the perks of being friends with the king, though indirectly. So, it was easy for her to just bring Gewen back with her to her chamber and then kick him out tomorrow morning after he woke up.
With that in mind, finally, Kira brought the drunk man to the royal palace. She asked the tavern owner to keep Gewen's horse and used only her own horse to go back to the palace.
She help Gewen get on the horseback and then she took the space behind him so she could control the horse. From the perspective of outsiders, they looked like a couple on an intimate ride, except that usually, the man was the one sitting at the back and the woman at the front.
Gewen grinned uncontrollably when they were sitting on the same horse, with Kira hugging his waist with one hand to keep his balance and her other hand held the horse's reins.
"You smell so nice," he said sheepishly.
Kira rolled her eyes. "..."
"Your hand is so warm and cute," Gewen added.
"..."
"Where are we going?"
"To my place," Kira finally replied curtly.
"Is your place nice?"
"Yes."
"Ahh... will we sleep together?" Gewen uttered his questions innocently, but it managed to make Kira cough violently.
After she got over her initial shock, Kira smacked the man in the back. "Shut up!"
Gewen finally stopped talking because he had become so sleepy. His body swayed to the left and to the right, much to Kira's annoyance. She thought this handsome man was a handful.
Snow started falling harder and their clothes were now damp from the moisture. Kira gnashed her teeth, fighting the cold, while trying to keep their balance, riding the horse.
Finally, they reached the royal palace.
"Good evening, Miss," two guards who saw her and Gewen on the horseback, coming through the palace gates, came to her and greeted her with a smile. When they noticed the man with Kira, the two guards exchanged glances.
"Is he drunk?" One of them asked Kira.
The girl rolled her eyes and nodded. "He was having such a bad day. So, I cheered him up a little."
"Ahh..." The guards smiled knowingly. One of them offered to help bring Gewen inside. Kira welcomed this offer with relief. Gewen was a big man and she had tired herself out, taking him all the way from the tavern to the palace.
"Thank you for your help," she said to the two guards after they put Gewen on the floor of her chamber on the third floor.
"Anytime, Miss," They both replied. "Have a good rest."

From Missrealitybites:
Sorry for the delay in publishing chapters today. The house my family is staying in is undergoing an emergency renovation because the roof almost collapsed... XD. While the landlord is dealing with it, we had to urgently evacuate to a temporary place for the next 3-4 weeks.
Fortunately, we found a really nice place that we can rent for 4 weeks. Yesterday was so hectic because we had to move here.
It's a beautiful studio inside a compound with a pool shared only with the other 3 studios, facing BEAUTIFUL RICE PADDIES in Ubud village in Bali. I feel like we're on a vacation. The kids love it and they have been swimming every day.
(Finally, I can feel grateful for online school. They can still study while we are far away from home.)
Now, somehow I don't want the renovation to end. XD
