Chapter 386 - Probability of paternity

Margaret started a new series from the drama collections after finishing the last episode of a historical Korean drama. Heather had no mood to watch. She bade goodnight to Margaret and trudged into her room. Since yesterday, Francis's behavior has bothered her. He neither smiled nor talked. Heather wondered if her presence in this house is starting to annoy him. ''Should I shift to a new home? Or stay with my daughter?''

With thoughts inside her head, Heather dozed off. The following day, as usual, she woke up. After getting ready, she went down to have breakfast, and at the same time, to talk with Francis, but Grace informed he left for the office already. ''Cold man!'' She grumbled and left for the hospital.

As she finished attending a patient, Evelyn called her to inform her of good news in the afternoon. The DNA reports of Leena and that Nerd arrived. She immediately rushed out of the hospital. Maybe it was good news for Evelyn, but Heather's legs trembled in fear as she sat next to Evelyn. To keep the suspense intact, her friend didnot open the seal to let her see the secret by herself.

''I am scared, Eve.'' Heather cried.

''You were not scared when you asked me to conduct a DNA test.'' Evelyn countered. ''Open it, Heather!''

Both held their breaths anxiously. Heather tore open the envelope, ignored the indexes in the paper sheet, and straight away glanced at the bottom right corner. [Probability of Paternity: 0. The alleged father is excluded as the biological father of the tested child....]

''Not his.'' Relief poured through Heather's face. ''Leena is not that Nerd's daughter, Eve! Aren't you surprised?'' Heather screamed, squealing like a child.

''I guessed already,'' Evelyn smiled. ''So, what's our next plan?''

''I am going to Korea.'' Heather declared.

''Why?'' Evelyn asked in a surprise-filled voice.

''To meet him.'' Heather turned to face Evelyn. ''If the Nerd has a hand, he would definitely alert the person once he knows that we are searching for Leena's biological father. There is a chance they might strike back, and that's the only way to bring the enemy from the hiding.''

''Isn't it too risky, Heather?''

''It is! But I don't want to die wondering who he is.''

Evelyn now realized the desperation in Heather's voice. ''So, when are we leaving for Korea?''

''Probably tomorrow...I don't have any major..wait!'' Heather sharply glanced at Evelyn. ''You said we?..are you also coming with me?''

''Of course, I am coming.'' Evelyn embraced Heather's arms. ''I can't allow you to go alone. Besides, it's been a long time we made a trip together. Was South Korea on our travel bucket list to travel together?'' Evelyn asked. If Heather was not involved in the accident, they would have together traveled to many places.

''Thank you, Eve.'' Both googled the beautiful places they must visit in Korea, including Nerd's visit. Evelyn was one step ahead. She booked the plane tickets for the two.

...

Before going to bed, Heather contemplated if she should inform Francis of her Korea visit. She is literally living in his house. It's the least she could do. She knocked on Francis's bedroom door and waited. When she didnot receive the response, she straight away went to the place he would bury himself when he is anxious or troubled—his study room.

''Is something bothering you?'' Heather's sudden voice caused Francis to snap out.

''N_othing.'' He stammered, tightening his hold around the book he was holding. ''What's up? You are still awake?''

''Ummm..I am going to Korea tomorrow along with Evelyn,'' Heather said. ''So, I thought of informing you.''

''Why now?'' His voice sounded like a scream as he threw the book on the table. After knowing that the psycho woman is still alive, Francis was scared even to send Heather to the hospital. But he was not so mean to stop her fly by stealing her wings.

''A trip to enjoy.'' Heather smiled at his face, covering the lie in her eyes. As usual, she didnot receive a response from the man. Heather shook her head. ''Continue reading. I have to pack things for tomorrow. I am leaving.''

''You can't..Heather...'' Francis shouted at the closed door, but she was already gone.

''Reckless woman.'' He muttered, making a call to his secretary to deploy men to Korea in secret.

...

Francis personally went to drop Heather at the airport. It was a surprise that the lazy Fredrick has come to settle Evelyn as well. He is damn sure Evelyn had dragged him by force.

''Give me a minute, Heather,'' Evelyn said and turned to her husband. ''Remember what I told. If I get to know that you are drinking...''

''No.'' Fredrick shook his head like a scared rabbit. ''Please be safe, Eve darling.''

Evelyn turned a blind eye to her husband's actions. ''Let's go, Heather.''

Fredrick continued waving his hands, pulling out Oscar-winning acting even after Heather and Evelyn disappear out of his sight.

''Stop with your acting,'' Francis chuckled. ''They are gone already.''

''You don't know about my wife, France. She might turn up any time to check on me '' Fredrick grinned. ''It's time to party. Tonight at my home.'' Fredrick made a call to his friends and received a reply in seconds.

''I am not coming, drunkard.'' Francis stepped into the car.

''Let me see then,'' Fredrick muttered, a sly smile on his face.

.....

A woman lying on the bed searched the bedside table as the loud ringing mobile hammered into her ears. Her sleepy eyes assumed she was dreaming as she saw the contact number. She cut the call and looked at the man snoring on the other side of the bed. Pushing the blanket aside, she went to the terrace and dialed back the number. ''I told you several times to call this number, William. What if my husband has noticed?''

''I know it's dangerous. But I have to deliver this matter, Ruth.'' Replied William. '''Heather and Evelyn are coming to Korea."

Ruth panicked. "Did Heather find out about you or a speculation?"

"I assume she is doubting."

Minor incidents happen in the chapters I posted today. But they are necessary to progress for the story, which I couldn't cut down. So, I wrote two chapters, not to let you think it's only one small chapter. Happy reading...
