Chapter 438 - The Contractor

After landing in Japan, Leena met her friend, spent a couple of hours, and started her journey to Russia in the morning along with Nick. She had to stick the ear pods to the ears throughout the journey because someone next to her was grumbling like a gummy bear. They landed in Russia, but Nick's curses didnot stop either.

''Stop it, Nick,'' Leena said before stepping into the backseat of the car. ''You are making a big fuss over the forged name.''

''I have shared the location to your number,'' Nick addressed the driver. Receiving an affirmative nod from him, Nick turned to Leena to address the previous topic.

''A big fuss? You got at least a better name, Jurassic Park, and what about me?'' Nick tightly gripped his mobile, shifting his anger onto the poor object. ''People standing behind me laughed like crazy when the officer called me Mike Faartz. Even if it is a forged name, how could you....'' He trailed off, exhaling a deep sigh. ''Nevermind. You and Aunt Jalapeno have no shame.''

''So, did Mike faartz?'' Leena added spice to the wound, suppressing her smile.

''A lot of times.'' Nick gritted his teeth. ''Because that's the only gas Mike can afford.''

''Pfftt.'' She smacked Nick's arm. ''Your comedy sense has improved a lot after I took you under my wings.''

Rubbing his arm, Nick looked at Leena like she was a lost alien descended on the earth. He wondered if she would keep the same brave upfront once they entered the deep forest. Nick badly wanted to share his experience but sealed his lips, seeing her enjoy the scenery. He let her experience before her nightmares began.

Without being aware of the events that would turn up in her way today, Leena enjoyed the view of lush green trees throughout the ride. Three hours later, the car pulled at a forest entrance.

''We have arrived at the location, sir.'' The driver said in affluent English.

''What the! Is she living inside the forest?'' Leena curiously questioned Nick, looking at the surrounding flora.

''Yes.'' Unlike last time, Nick came fully prepared this time. He grabbed a backpack in which he stored the essentials they needed later on.

''Please stay here until we come back,'' Nick told the driver and motioned Leena to get down.

''Why is she living inside a forest?'' Although they traveled through the deserted area for almost two hours, Leena presumed the final destination of Morvena's house would be a cozy apartment. But who would have thought she had weird tastes.

''That's a long story. You will know once we get there. Let's go.'' Nick guided Leena into the forest using the mobile flashlight. Leena's heart raced in rythm, sounding like a drumbeat in a musician's instrument as she walked in the dense forest carefully. The sunlight was not questionable here.

Upon entering the place that allowed a little sunlight in, her heart thundered again as she saw a spooky gnarled twisted tree in the front yard of a house. Before Leena recovered from the fear, a man with a beard who looked like a Dumbledore appeared in front of her out of nowhere. ''Ah! You scared me.'' She gasped, patting her poor heart. What the hell is wrong with this place and people? Everything is ghostly. Scary houses in amusement parks are better compared to this place.

Not understanding what she meant, the beardy man stared at Leena curiously.

''We want to meet Morvena.'' Nick brought the man's attention to him. Using the translator app, Nick translated English to Russian for the man to understand. ''Please tell her she has a visitor.''

The bearded man nodded, went inside the house, and in a minute, he returned and informed them that his madam is not willing to meet anyone.

''Can you tell her it's_''

''Wait for a second, Nick.'' Leena interrupted Nick and addressed the beardy man. ''I don't care if she is willing or unwilling, tell her if she doesn't come_''

''Dyadya, who are you talking to?''

Leena halted her words and snapped at the owner of the voice. For a second, Leena thought she was hallucinating. The girl who just spoke... ''You..you were the tattoo girl. You were the one who gave me the heart-shaped tattoo, wasn't it?''

The girl stood like a frozen statue. Why is she here? Without replying a word to Leena, she ran inside the house.

''Stop.'' Leena çhased after her despite the bearded man tried to stop.

''Leena, wait.'' Nick followed behind her cluelessly.

Even though the house looked creepy, thanks to Leena's occupied mind, she had her entire focus on searching for the tattoed girl. She opened the door of the only single room she found in this large house. A familiar girl, as pale as paper, lay on the large bed. Morvena was sitting next to her, feeding her the soup.

Leena was knocked to six again to see her friend here.

''Winter!'' She clasped her hands over her mouth. Leena rushed towards her. ''What happened to you?''

''Leena.'' Tears welled in her ears seeing her friend after a long time. ''How are you?''

''Who allowed you inside?'' Morvena shouted.

''Why is Winter here?'' Leena calmly asked, but the intensity in her voice was resonant. ''How do you know Winter? Did you also operate on her as you did with Devin's memories?''

Morven's grip over the soup bowl tightened. ''Leave this place, Leena. You are not allowed here.''

''Not until I collect my answers. Four years back, you suggested a tattoo designer after my accident. I requested the designer to design a broccoli one, but I got a locked heart-shaped tattoo on my back in return. Why is the tattoo girl in this house?'' Leena assumed the designer made a mistake until now, but after coming here, she decided it's not as simple as she thought.

''It has nothing_''

''Don't try to act smart anymore. Wreaking havoc in people's life is your hobby, I guess. Devin, me, and now Winter as well.'' Leena's continued. ''What did you do to Devin? Why did you erase his memories?''

Morvena tiredly massaged her forehead. Can she get a break? Enger, Devin, and now Leena. She never thought the mistake she made in the past would come to haunt her today.

''Fine, don't open your mouth. You might have saved my life, but I don't sit and watch you ruining the lives of people lives. I am not letting this matter aside. Expect a lawyer's notice soon. Let the world know the top neurosurgeon's weird hobbies.'' With that, Leena turned to walk away, but before she took a couple of steps...

''Along with sending the lawyer notice to my house, prepare one for your husband as well.''

Leena hastily turned, facing Morvena, not understanding her underneath statement. ''What do you mean?''

''The one who gave the orders to wipe out Devin's memories is.'' She paused, contemplating, to tell the truth or hide it. She had enough humiliations from these people. In the end, Morvena deciding to confess the truth. ''The one who gave me the contract, the one who ordered me to wipe out Devin's memories, is none other than your husband.''

Leena received the most shocking twist today.
