At Li's Residence
Josh woke up the next day with a heavy headache. It was the worst hangover he had ever had in his life. He immediately got out of the bed and took a quick shower and went out of the room.
"You're up late… Go to the dining area. Shane is busy preparing a meal for you." Min commented with a mischievous grin on his face before adding, "Good luck bro…"
Josh was confused with that grin, and he wondered. "Why does it look like something not so good is about to happen?" Josh murmured as he walked towards the dining area.
He saw Shane preparing the table for him.
"You're awake just in time. I am sure you must be feeling hungry," Shane greeted with an ear to ear smile. "I rarely cook but I wanted to reward my good husband so… I cooked for you today."
"Oh dad, come eat with Josh… I cooked something good for a hangover." Shane muttered with a smile, seeing her father.
Shane's father gulped and said, "It's okay, dear. I'm already late for work, so I'll just take a drive through on my way."
Then he looked at Josh and muttered, "Enjoy the meal and good luck, son."
Josh felt something was weird in the sentences they all spoke and looked at all the dishes before him.
'Why did they sound like Shane's cooking is bad?' he mused when he thought everything seemed to be nicely done in the presentation and smelled good as well.
"Go on and dig in." Shane mumbled after she sat beside Josh. She stared at him lovingly while he moved to take a sip of the soup she made.
Josh pursed his lips and wanted to spat the salty soup, but seeing Shane's smiling face at him gave him the courage to swallow it.
"How was it?" Shane asked.
"Salty." Josh mumbled and drank some water.
Shane creased her forehead and tasted it. "Ewww! Why is it like this?" Shane mumbled and ran to spit in the sink.
"Try this… I put too much effort into this, it must be good." Shane offered the next dish and removed the soup and kept it aside.
Josh did not chew the beef broccoli dish and swallowed it all, followed by a lot of rice that made Shane's face bright.
"Was it good?" she asked.
Josh drank water and said, "Hmm, too much soy sauce I think."
Shane checked it and spat that also out afterwards.
Josh chuckled, seeing Shane's crumpled face.
"Did you not taste them while cooking?" he asked.
"I did I felt like they were bland so I added more spices and just let it stir afterwards and did not taste anymore,"
"No wonder they all said good luck to me…" Josh whispered.
"Huh?" Shane asked then said, "Don't eat it. I will ask Min to cook you something…"
"It's okay, Shane. I will eat. It's still edible…" Josh commented with a wink. Shane felt bad that she could not offer even a good meal made by her to please Josh as a reward for all that he had done for her. She wondered why even simple cooking was so difficult for her to achieve.
Shane then looked at the clock and cursed.
"I have to go now… I will be back as early as I can and then will reward you with something else for doing a marvellous job with my family. Bye-bye handsome!" Shane remarked with a wink, but Josh suddenly held her arm.
"Huh? Yes?" Shane asked and looked at Josh with questioning eyes.
"You forgot something…" Josh muttered while his face reddened.
"What? I have kept everything in my bag." Shane answered with knitted brows, thinking if she missed something important that she would need in hacking the system. It would be the last task for her… planting a malware in their entire system.
She saw Josh nuzzling his lips and Shane laughed, getting the signal. Since when did he become adorable like this? So cute.
She leaned down and gave him one sounding kiss on his lips before whispering in his ear, "Wait for me… I will give you something that would make you feel great…"
Josh unconsciously gulped because Shane's warm breath almost made his heart skip a beat that he controlled himself to sweep her in his arms and lock her up inside their room.
Shane gave him one more small kiss and quickly left.
Josh gawked then followed by carving a sweet ear to ear smile on his face. He suddenly got hungry and ate everything Shane cooked. Surprisingly, it tasted good suddenly.
Min entered with some food he cooked quickly in the dining area, and his jaw dropped seeing the empty plates before Josh.
"You ate those junkies?!" he exclaimed in terror.
Josh lovingly smiled and said, "They are not that bad besides, your sister cooked them with love."
Min wanted to vomit and correct his brother-in-law by saying, 'my sister cooked them ignorantly!' but stopped himself seeing the wide and contented smiles from Josh.
"I can't believe someone could fall head over heels like you for my tomboy sister." Min could not help but whisper.
"Why not?" Josh, who heard it ask.
Min sat in front of him and said, "Well, she's like one of the boys you see around and has no girlish character, so no one dared court her here. Do you know that she even pretended to be a boy for a long period of time by cutting her hair like ours? And she did fake a lot in our community who was not aware yet of her existence since she was gone for too long to train. They just returned Shane back to us when they discovered her heart disease."
Min gritted his teeth, recalling how those men took his seven-year-old sister forcefully away from them. The King's brother, Prince Yun, was the most evil thing that should be eliminated from the world. Min quickly brushed off the man from his head to lift his mood back.
He looked at the empty plates and murmured, "Shane once tried to cook for us but since then we never let her touch the kitchen again to cook us a meal. Well, today is an exemption since she said it's for you."
Josh laughed and said, "She just needs some teaching."
"Trust me… We taught her, tried many times, but really… She's just born not to be good at cooking." Min commented recalling how the dish turned badly because of Shane's poor balancing with spices. She always felt that the taste was not good enough or not good so she tended to add more salt, soy, vinegar, chili or sugar… whatever spices were needed.
Josh excused himself after cleaning up the table.
Min followed Josh's back who left the dining area. He was sure Josh would soon get an upset stomach, so Min walked out too to buy some medicine just in case Shane asked for it later.
Josh happily went back inside their room. He felt so excited about Shane's return that he wanted to pull the time fast and it be even in an instant.
His relationship with Shane was going smoothly and Josh was planning to confess his genuine feelings to her soon. He was nervous though, thinking how Shane would react to him.
