Chapter 449 - Actions Are Not Enough

At Yang Globals hospital

"How come you're always sticking with Cali? Don't you have any work at all?" Kane scowled, squinting his eyes on Rui who was preparing his meal instead of Cali who was playing games on her mobile phone.

"Cali prefers that we both always be together, so I can't help it out. Just eat your lunch Kane because we have to leave soon to pick up your sister and brother-in-law at the airport. Stop crumpling your face or else your bruises won't heal fast and may even leave a scar there," Rui commented with a smile.

Lately, he started finding Kane's childishness amusing, maybe because he was too confident now about Cali's love for him that he felt Kane would never be a hindrance between them unlike before. Yet he still refused to trust Kane to be left alone with Cali for some unknown reasons.

He shook his head because he was becoming more possessive for Cali so the unknown reasons he first thought were invalid.

Kane looked at Cali then confidently whispered, "Do you really think I will give up on Cali that easily? Wait until I confess to her about what I feel and I'm sure she will know my worth."

"When do you plan to confess? Tell me and I'll arrange the schedule of Cali to be alone with you for a while..." Rui nonchalantly commented, making sure Kane's nostrils were flaring in frustration.

"Let's go Rui?" The two men heard Cali speak and saw her walk towards them so both of them suddenly started behaving well. They already had received an ultimatum from Cali if she happened to witness them arguing on petty things they would both be punished, so both were giving each other poker faces if Cali was looking at them.

"Cali, can you let only Rui to go pick up sis, all by himself? I don't have anyone with me right now. I'm not comfortable with the nurses feeding me hurriedly." Kane commented with a downcasted tone.

Rui wanted to poke Kane's eyes that he used to stare at his woman, at that moment.

"Alright, then I'll stay. Anyway, I feel tired too. Is it okay if you go on your own? I don't know why, but Shane requested you to pick them up. She insisted that you should personally see them at the airport. I think she needs some favor from you," Cali commented.

Rui no longer resisted since Shane would pass something important to him. Zach and his team were currently at Plumeria island.

"Alright then, I'll be going now, I'll be back soon sweetheart," Rui muttered before pulling Cali in for a deep kiss in front of Kane. 

Kane's face reddened in annoyance while his eyes shouted, 'Do you really need to show off like that in front of me?'

Rui answered him with a menacing grin before letting Cali go from his embrace. 

"Are you that happy?" Kane mumbled, seeing Cali's eyes following Rui's back and smiling by herself with a blushing face.

"Yes!" Cali answered with a bright smile while she timidly cupped her face.

"My man is so handsome and sweet," Cali muttered followed by a squeal.

"I can be more sweet than him, you know." Kane bluntly muttered.

"Huh?" Cali blinked at him in disbelief.

Kane gulped and added, "You see Cali… I lo..."

"Stop it Kane, just stop right there!" he heard Cali interrupted with pursed lips.

"You see, Kane, you're one of my closest friends almost like a brother to me, so please don't you dare jeopardize that relationship between us. I'm engaged and I love my man very much. I know what you are trying to say… But please don't…" Cali pleaded. 

Nanny Shine already gave her a heads up about it but she only laughed it out, however she noticed Kane's action lately and knew that nanny Shine was right.

Cali knew that there were times that she was dumb, but not always. She could feel how special Kane was treating her, it was just that she did not want to give any meaning to it at all besides Kane was not vocal about it, anyway.

Kane felt his world would crumble soon, but still he wanted Cali to know how he felt.

"I have loved you for years, Cali, from the moment you said hello to me, but don't worry… I understand what you meant but let me at least tell you I love you…" Kane courageously stated.

Then he added, "Did that doctor ever tell you he loves you?"

Cali was caught off guard with that question. 'Come to think of it. She never heard Rui say I love you to her, but she hadn't told him the words too…' Cali mused.

"Not yet. I haven't said it to him as well. We don't need words from each other to realise the love between us, because action speaks louder than words. I know Rui loves me because I can feel it in his every action and the way he cares about me." Cali defended with pouty lips.

Kane saw that glint of hesitation in Cali's eyes as though she was trying to defend Rui.

"We both know that sometimes only actions are not enough Cali. It's so easy for men to treat any woman a little nicely. It's the nature of most men to be sweet to all women, so women easily fall prey to it or misinterpret it. There's a big difference between liking and loving someone Cali. You can like a woman but not necessarily love her. You never know what's really going inside a man's head and a man's heart unless he becomes vocal about it." Kane explained, finding the opportunity to give Cali a bigger picture.

"You also… You have to assess yourself if what you're feeling for Rui is really love and not merely an infatuation. You're so young Cali… That's why you should not rush into marriage. You like Rui because he happened to be somewhat like the man of your dreams. He's your ideal type, Cali, but that doesn't mean you love him already." Kane added. 

He felt he was doing the right thing for Cali to think things straight.

Cali had a serious expression and heaved a long deep sigh before looking straight into Kane's eyes and firmly said, "I appreciate your concern Kane. I'm sorry if this will break your heart. No matter what you say… Nothing will change because no one knows me better than myself. I know what I'm feeling and I love Rui. I like you and I love you as a brother so please… If you want me to remain as your sister, stop spurting nonsense or else I will never see you again just for you to get over me and move on."
