Chapter 20: The Sharing

Barbara Brown's POV

After a long evening with my research and how I was examined the sill and dike and made my observation, I was exhausted and I wanted to bath and sleep. I have to make sure that I will not meet Brad at any cost.

Today has been about him to clarify that I belonged to him.

Pfft, like anyone would love to take that advantage with me. I might be a woman but I was raised by three brothers and one of them was in the elite force of the USA army. It has been his duty to teach me how to defend myself.

I sighed as I went back to the tent with the boots that I still borrowed from Owen. I have to locate my boots before I went out tomorrow. But when I got inside the tent, I was screaming.

"Bloody hell!" Brad exclaimed before he went to take a towel and covered his naked body. He was shaving in the basin that was near the vanity that I don't see there before.

"Will you at least knock?" Brad hissed at me as his face was covered with shaving cream. I scoffed at him before I went to take a seat at the makeshift bed.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him as I narrowed my eyes at him. He turned to regard me for a while before he continued to shave.

"What do you mean?"

"This tent is mine. So I ask, what are you doing in my tent?" I asked as he looked at my reflection in the mirror. Even though the sun was setting, we already have lights in the tent. It gave me a nice view of Brad from behind.

Not that I noticed anything.

"This is my tent as well, remember? We have a deal that you were to be my wife and I will give you the spot. However, being my wife also means that you need to share everything with me when we were on-site," he said before he washed his face after he shaved. He took a small towel and wiped his face and he turned to look at me.

"So, Miss Brown, I think you are in our tent," he said before I stood up from the makeshift bed as I was glaring at him.

"That's not the deal,"

"Oh, yes it is," he said as he was walking toward me before I can smell the sandalwood scent on his body. Even though we haven't showered in a day, he still smells great. I don't know if I could say the same for myself.

"What are you doing?" I asked as I was looking at him before he leaned onto me. I closed my eyes before I sensed that he moved to take something behind me. His arms were touching mine and I think I could not breathe for a moment.

"You were sitting on my clothes," he whispered as I was turning my face that was inches apart from him. He was smirking at me when our hot breaths mingled.

"Brandon, I need…Oh, I'm sorry." Sabrina was coming into the tent when Brad was inching away from me. I stepped backward before Brad turned to look at his secretary.

"Ah, you're here. I hope everything was in order," Brad said before he was putting his shirt over his broad shoulder as if Sabrina was not staring at him. He moved to get the pants that were on the bed before he turned away from Sabrina and me and put it on. He tossed the towel onto the chair nearby.

"We have a slight problem," Sabrina said as Brad strode to her. He took the papers in Sabrina's hand and he stood there near him. I felt a pang of envy when he was near Sabrina and she could smell the nice sandalwood scent of his.

"Bloody hell," he cursed before he strode out of the tent and Sabrina followed him. I stood there as if I was not here and why I felt a pang of heartache when I did not acknowledge.

No matter. I should not dwell on them as I went out of the tent as well before the cold breeze was coming up my spine. I rubbed my arms before I noticed there was a commotion on the site.

"What was it?" I asked one of the workers as he was passing through me.

"Someone was locked inside the site. They cannot move the boulder so Mr. Cornwall will try to contact people that he knows to move it," he said before I went to the site.

A lot of people were standing in front of the border before as Brad was talking on the phone before he turned and locked eyes with me. He ended the call before he told Sabrina something and she nodded. Then, Brad was coming toward me.

"I thought you would stay in the tent," he said as he was dragging me away from the scene. I wanted to help but I guess nothing can be done. I was not that strong. I'm not a weightlifter but a scientist, damn it.

"How was it?" I asked him before his jaw clenched.

"They will come as soon as possible to get my man put," he said as we were striding toward the makeshift tent. But it was not our tent.

"Here. Sit," he instructed before I took the seat. I was looking at him when he went to grab something. It was nice and I noticed that other workers were staring at me before I turned to look at them. They looked away.

"Here," Brad said and he was putting something in front of me. If I don't know any better, it was some sort of stew.

"What is this?"

"Dinner," he said as he has one in front of him as well. He took a spoon and started eating. I was staring at him before I took my spoon and ate it. It was nice and before I know it, I was starving. God, the excitement made me forget to eat something. No wonder I finished in record time.

"More?" Brad asked as I turned to look that he was watching me. I blushed before I shook my head, embarrassed that I was eating like a pig.

Since when I cared when people were judging me?

I looked at Brad before he tossed my clean plate and another stew was in front of me. I looked at him before he started to eat his stew again.

"You need strength and right now, you were not eating much," he said as I took the spoon and started to eat.

"I never had enough to spare for food. It was fortunate that I even eat once a day," I said as I was scooping some stew before I was eating again, trying to avoid any question that Brad would ask.

And I was glad that he did not.

After dinner, we went to the tent. Of course, I was afraid that we have to share the bed but when Brad said that he has something to do later, I was half relieved but also felt something else. That would not be a disappointment, would it?

I nodded at him before he went out of the tent. I think he might be scanning the area where his man was trapped in and went I looked at the clock after I changed my clothes and I was washing my face, it was half-past midnight. I don't think that he was going to stand there all night, was he?

I was getting ready for bed as I was feeling something was wrong. I felt something was moving inside my chest. Before I can dwell, even more, I slipped under the cover and tried to sleep, forgetting the smell of sandalwood inside the cover itself.

The time ticked by and I was still tossing and turning in the bed. I could not sleep. Not that I don't usually sleep once I hit my pillow but tonight, I have an exception. I need to make sure that Brad was okay. And to do that, I need to go to him, AKA gets out of bed and walked to the site.

I was contemplating what should I do but I have no choice since he was my husband and all, even though it was in paper only, I went out of the bed and changed my clothes. I did not know who thought it was a good idea to give me pajamas when I was on site. I just shrugged before I changed into a tank top and my hiking pants.

I have a lot of them in the chest that was located for my things.

I don't want to know how I got it before I located there was a boot in the chest. It was a hiking boot so I went to put it on, reminding myself to give the one that I borrowed from Owen tomorrow. I also took the flannel that Brad gave to me and slid it on. It smelt of him and I wished he was here.

Woah, what I was thinking?

I went out of the tent and made my way to the site. But when I was there, I was surprised by two things.

One: Brad was there, waving his hands in the air like he was trying to move air or something.

Two: the boulder was being moved without anything.

And the last thing that I remembered Brad's face was one of the priceless when I saw what he was doing.

He moved the fucking boulder with his hands in the air!
