Chapter 10: The Resignation

Cameron Hayes' POV

I was walking out of the parking lot to get inside the building. I was happy as I got a nice relaxing weekend without nothing to think about. Okay, maybe think about the peck that I was giving to Ella. I don't how to react if I met her today.

I sighed as I was shaking my head. I was her boss, of course, she would not question anything that I did. I walked inside my department as people were greeting on the way to my office.

I looked at the cubicle where Fauna and Ella resided. I saw that Fauna was doing her work diligently, as usual, but the seat beside her was empty. Maybe Ella was in the restroom as I went inside the room before I put my briefcase on the table.

"Here are the schedule for today and this is for you, sir," my secretary was giving me coffee and I was nodding at her.

"Thank you and will you please call Ms. Lattone to see me after this, thank you," I said as I was sipping on the tea.

"But sir—" my secretary did not finish her sentence as I was waving her away. I only need Ella and right now I think I might have to look at the translation that she had done over the weekend.

I smirked as I remembered that I forced her to work during the weekend and after this, she had to face me. I smiled despite the papers on my desk, I was looking for the translation that she would have given to me.

It was at the bottom before I took it off from the other papers and I was opening the translation of the article and she was doing a good job of it. I was smiling at her neatness and how she organized the thoughts that would be easier for me to work later.

"Ella?" I asked as I heard the door was opening but it was the director of WWF magazine.

"Madam, I did not know it was you. Sorry, it was such a mess, please have a seat," I said as I was getting rid of the papers on the coffee table before the director stopped me.

"I assume you have read your email?" She asked as my eyebrows furrowed.

"Email? About what?" I asked as I was looking at her serious face.

"Well, unfortunately, you are not qualified to advance, Cameron. I know you would be devastated. The promotion has been given to the other editor," she said as I was trying to keep a cool face.

"Is that so?" I asked her with a tight smile. I felt fury inside me but I don't think I wanted people to know that. I have to keep a cool head.

"Truly I am. But I have some good news as well," she said as I snapped to her. She was smiling at me before she handed me something.

"I think you will find this quite helpful. However, I would say it would be depending on you of course," she said before she was walking toward the door.

"It's the least I can do, Cameron," the director said as she winked at me. I smiled at her before I was looking at the papers that she gave me.

It was a recommendation letter for the Graduate program.

I smiled bitterly before I was looking at the prospect of the letter. The director spoke highly of me as I was reading it. I looked around the office as I felt like I was being trapped and I was looking at the other workers.

They were happy while I was not.

I sighed before I put the paper on the table as my secretary was knocking on my door. I turned to look at her as she was smiling weakly with me, hesitated to get in.

"What is it? I don't have time right now. If you have something to say, say it now," I said as I was taking my seat behind the desk before I was starting to sort out.

"Sir, Ms. Lattone will be unavailable from now on," she stated before I was looking at her. I arched my eyebrow.

"And why is that?" I asked her.

"She quits and the resignation letter has been sent to you through email," she said as she was looking at me dead in the eyes. I felt my fury unleashed after all.

"What?!!"

Ella Lattone's POV

"And here's your key. Do not lose it," the landlady said as I took it from her hands.

"Thank you," I said as she went to see other tenants as I was looking around my empty apartment. I have arranged some U-Haul to do some shipping and moving for my stuff from Seattle to NYC. It will take weeks to get settled in.

Well, at least I have the air mattress to support me.

"Ain't this nice? It seems that you are a New Yorker after all," Dee said as she was looking around the apartment before I was hugging her.

"Thank you so much for the arrangement. This is better than my apartment in Seattle," I said as I was looking at the window. It overlooks the city and I think I saw the Empire State building from here.

"Okay, now that we have you settled, should we go out for lunch now?" Daisy asked as I was laughing at her innuendo. She and food did not separate for that long.

"Okay, just let me put this in the bedroom," I said as I was rolling my luggage to the bedroom, the only bedroom that was available in the apartment.

"How do you get it so cheap?" I asked Daisy as we were walking out of the apartment and we're heading out of the building.

"Well, the landlady was my aunt so I might have bullied her a bit,"

"Daisy!" I exclaimed I was shocked to learn that the landlady was related to Daisy after all. She laughed.

"Relax will you? Aunt Mary was cool, plus she loves me the most between my cousins,"

"I wonder why?" I said as we were standing in front of the restaurant that we went when I was in NYC last time. Daisy groaned.

"Ugh, why do you have to come here?" She asked me as I was arching my eyebrow at her.

"Why not?" I asked her as I dared her to explain why not here.

"Because…ugh, never mind," she said before she went inside and I laughed, followed her pursuit.

We were sitting at the table as that annoying guy Windell, as Daisy put it, was not on his shift. So we're having so much fun together now that Daisy was not afraid of him showing up.

"Why are you so afraid of him?" I asked her as I was cutting some steak before I dipped it into salsa. I know, it's weird but I don't care.

"Well, he's my competitor. Of course, I wanted to beat him at everything," Daisy replied before she was eating her salad. I don't even know how she survived on that diet anyway. I nodded at her.

"So, you're afraid that if you're not rival anymore, he would lose interest in you?" I asked her before she coughed at the notion. I gave her water before I was smiling as Daisy was glaring at me over the rim of the glass.

"What? It's the truth, right? You do like him,"

"I am not!

"So do,"

"I am not!" She said as she was glaring at me before I surrendered to her. Let her think that she won but her heart knew better.

I was enjoying my meal before Daisy was cursing right now, hearing why he had to be here right now.

"Daisy Dyer, as I live and breathe. And you were enjoying your lunch without me/ I'm hurt,'' Windell guy said as he was standing in front of our table.

"What do you want, Windell? I'm busy here. I was chatting with my friend here," she said as she was pointing at me before Windell turned to me.

"Do you mind?" He asked before I shook my head. He turned to look at Daisy.

"See? She did not mind and I think you owe me a dinner," he said as he was smirking at her.

"I am not buying your dinner!" Dee exclaimed.

"But you promise if I beat you at our quiz. And guess what? I got full marks with an extra point because I was correcting the question as well," he said as he was smirking at Daisy. I never saw her making that face before, blushing with anger.

"Anyway, I will be waiting for your invite. If you decide the restaurant, you know how to reach me," Windell said as he went away. Daisy was growling.

"I fucking hate the arrogant guy!" She hissed at me before I laughed Daisy. But I have to say, I agreed on that statement as well and a certain redhead with green eyes appeared before my eyes.
