Chapter 7: The Visitor

Daisy Dyer's POV

I was looking at the airport before I parked my car and I was standing out to wait for my friend to come out. I was leaning against the hood of the car before I was looking at the familiar slender figure of my friend.

Ella Lattone has a nice figure and I was surprised to see that she was not married yet. But perhaps that will change later. Who knows?

I saw her was walking out of the airport before I was smiling. She was looking for me before I was getting off from the hood as security was coming at me.

"Miss, you can't park here,'' he said as I was looking at him.

"I will be back, my friend is here. Let me get her and we will be out," I said before the security was arching his eyebrow at me. I was staring at him before he nodded.

"Just hurry," he said as I went to get Ella. She did not see me at first but her expression changed when she saw I was approaching her.

"You're here. Thank God, I have been waiting," I said as I was hugging her. Ella laughed before I was looking at her.

"So, this is it. I will be a New Yorker, like you," Ella commented when she was studying me. I laughed at her.

"No, girl. You know I will always be Midwest country girl," I said before I was pulling her to the car. I think security has been giving me the evil eye when we were heading out of the airport.

"Okay, enough talk. We should get you home now," I said as I was pulling Ella. I was looking at the security before I thanked him as he nodded curtly at me. We got inside the car as Ella was settling down in the passenger seat.

"I cannot imagine that you cannot charm your way into the program," Ella commented before I felt my face was scowling. I did not charm my way into the program. I went through the admission the same as everyone else.

"Sorry, I know you don't like it when I say that. My mouth was blunt for some time," she said before I was turning to look at her. I smiled. I think she will do fine here when she started her program later.

"That's good. Keep it that way, don't change your way, Ella. You might need more than anything else in this battle after all," I said as I was reminding myself that I need to clear my father's name and Dylan's accusation on me.

Not Dylan anymore, Windell. He deserved that.

I went to shift the gear and we were off to my apartment. I know I was excited for Ella to look around the campus and I cannot help it if Lea and Barbara will be happy to see her too.

We were listening to music as I was driving through the traffic. I don't know what to say since Ella was exhausted and she was asleep in the car. I parked the car in front of my apartment with my designated parking. I shook her before she woke up and we were inside the house after that.

I went to unlock the door of the apartment and I ushered Ella in. She was yawning before I turned on the lights and she was looking around the apartment. I went to open the bedroom that I have in the apartment. I told my aunt that I just need one bedroom but she loved to spoil me with something more than I need. So, I was not complaining now.

"Okay, so I have done the liberty that you will stay for the weekend, I have prepared this bedroom for you," I said as I was turning the lights. Ella gasped before she went inside and she was looking at me.

"Thank you, Dee. This would do it," she said as she called my nickname among my best friends. I was smiling at her when she yawned.

"I think it's time for you to catch up some zzz," I said before I was switching off the lights and I closed the door as I went to make my business before Ella was ready to go out and explore the city.

I went to pick up some scientific papers and maybe made my way through it with some notes that might be useful for me later. I was making some highlights and notes until my eyes cannot take it anymore. I was yawning so I decided to make some coffee.

I went to the kitchen and I was taking the coffee powder before I knocked it off from the counter and the content spilled onto the floor.

"Christ!" I cursed under my breath before I went to take some tissue and cleaned them up. There goes my coffee for the whole month. Wasted. I was too consumed in cleaning the coffee before I saw Ella was helping me.

"You never change," she said before I was chuckling at her.

"Well, old habits die hard," I said before I was pulling the tissues and the plates that I have knocked out as well in panic into the trashcan. I cannot undo my clumsiness if I wanted to. I have been preparing to make some dinner for my friend but I think we have to get take out.

"Pizza?" Ella asked me when she fished for her phone as I shook my head.

"How about I show you where to get the best food after all," I said as we were smiling at each other. We went to clean the mess before we leave the apartment. I locked the door as we were on our way to the restaurant that I have been dying to eat this month.

I always have this routine where I will be visiting that restaurant once a month. It helped to keep me waiting for the month to be over. And since Ella was here, I might as well show it to her.

We were talking and sharing what had happened in our lives for the last 3 years. It was the last time I met her before Ella was moving to Seattle to her new job. I went back to my ranch to help aunt Milly until 2 years ago when my senior thesis helped me to get into the Ph.D. program at NYU. Later, we have arrived at my favorite restaurant, Carl's Cafe.

"Ah, here we are," I said to Ella before I pulled the door to open it for her. We were lining up as this restaurant was famous and it was in front of the popular MacWatters' hotel. I think that was why this restaurant always full.

The elite loved to be here.

Carl's Cafe was a fusion restaurant that served a variety of food as I was looking at the restaurant for the first time. I know that Ella loved Chinese food so I thought she would love to try that here as well.

"This has the best Chinese food and I know how much you like spicy food, so I thought why not," I said as I was looking at Ella before I turned to look at the host that will be helping us to get our table.

How Fate was laughing at me.

The first thing that I saw was his stormy eyes as he was smiling at me. I frowned before he was taking two menus and he was talking to me.

I think.

"Well, well, well. I never thought that I would see you here, Daisy Dyer," Windell said as I was narrowing my eyes at him. Windell smirked as he knew that I was being irritated by him right now.

And after our last conversation, I did not want to be in his presence anymore.

"Windell, what are you doing here?" I asked acidly as I was looking at him. Even though he was not wearing his usual clothes, he still looked devilishly handsome.

"In case you forget, I work at the establishment," he said as I was rolling my eyes. Not that I cared or whatever, I did not know that he took another job besides being a TA. I thought he was loaded when he stated that his father was a professor.

"Two of you? Follow me," Windell said as I reluctantly followed him for Ella. She did not know how this man was accusing my father as a murderer and I don't want her to be involved. I can handle this on my own. We took our seat as I thanked him before I was looking at the menu. I heard Windell chuckled.

"What would you like for a drink?" He asked.

"How about Sky Juice? I heard you got the best of that," I snapped at him out of spite because I know there was none of the Sky Juice here. But my anger was not being retorted as I wanted. Instead, Windell just smiled at me.

"As the lady wish," he said before he was walking out of the way.

Ella who has been quiet for some time and observant at my interaction with Windell was finally asking me a question.

"What was that about?"

"What?"

"That! You were like going for each other throat and I think he likes to irk you, even more, when you react to him," she asked as I was looking at her. Her blue eyes were calculating as I don't know how to say to her.

That Windell was accusing my father to be a murderer?

That my father was not a scientist like he claimed to be with his scientific papers?

What should I tell and I don't want Ella to be more suspicious than she already was from my interaction with Dylan Windell?
