Chapter 15: The Newcomer

Daisy Dyer's POV

It has been a few weeks when the conference had happened and how Dylan…oh, I can't even think about it. I was looking at the silver dress that was hanging in my bedroom right now. I still have those vivid images of Dylan going down on me when we were in the garden. I sighed before I looked at the clock.

It's time for me to meet with Ella.

So, Ella decided to come to NYU after all for the Master's Program that the Geology department was giving. She decided that she wanted to do Ecology but I doubt it. I mean, she was a polyglot so she might as well continue to do some linguistic or languages.

Not science but I was not her mother.

I took my backpack as I was eating the breakfast that was only oatmeal and fruits. I sipped on the coffee before I was out of the apartment. I think it will be good for me to not thinking about that stupid dress from now on.

I have arrived at the station and I saw Ella's blonde hair as she was looking at her phone. I don't know what she was doing but I went to greet her.

"Hey," I said as I was hugging her from behind. She turned to look at me. Ella smiled before we were walking to the campus.

"So, are you excited to be in your first class?" I asked her as I was walking to the lab to prepare for my labs today. Ella shrugged before I asked her where her first class would be.

"So, you just go straight through Banner Hall before you go left and that's when you see the seminar hall," I said as I was instructing her.

"I felt nervous, I don't know why," Ella said as I laughed at her.

"I know how that feels. But you will be fine. I know you are." I said as I was watching my watch.

"Shoot, I have to go, I see you later at the quad. Lunch together?" I asked her before she went her way and I was making my way to the office.

I unlocked the door with my card before I went inside. There was no one in sight before I was looking at my table that I have all the stacks of the lab that I will have to give to my students. I sighed before I was sitting at my table and did some work.

I guess I might as well burn the time away before lunch.

I was stretching up when I looked at the clock. It was noon and I think Ella was done with her class. I shoot her a text and she said that she was waiting for me to go to the quad together. I smiled before I texted her that I will be right there.

I exited the office as I was making my way to the quad when I heard some talks about one Dylan Windell.

"Did you hear? He asked for an extension. I don't know what was taking him so long to be done with his work? Is he stupid or something?" I heard Silas' voice was commenting on my partner's inability to be done.

"Yeah, I think he was too stupid that he cannot think other than with his dick," his friend commented. I gritted my teeth as I was looking at the wall. I think I need to tell them that my partner can do his job better than them both combined.

"Speaking from the person that has been doing geotectonic for more than 5 years now," I said as I was leaning against the door frame when both of them were shocked to see that I was there, hearing everything.

"But again, maybe you're so stupid that you can't come up with the best solution for your work, right, Silas?" I said as I looked at Silas' face was flustered.

Not so tough now that you were the one being commented, right?

"Why, you—"

I don't give him any time to give a perfect comeback as I went to leave the building. I was smirking as I know Silas will never be compared to Dylan in his intellect. That douche was not as bright as people think he was.

I was walking at the quad before I saw Ella and I went to her side. We hugged before we were walking toward the cafeteria to get some lunch. I also asked her how was her first day went.

"So, what do you think?" I asked as Ella was still looking around the quad. I think she was still in awe with the place.

"It is nice not to think about work once in a while," she replied. I nodded.

"Well, as long as you're happy, I'm happy," I said as we were standing at the cold sandwich station. They might still serve breakfast for us as I was looking at the menu. I think I might get the French roll with cold beef.

We were walking as I was talking with Ella before she was disappearing between the walls in the corner. I don't know what had happened but I arched my eyebrow at her. She seems distressed.

"What are you doing?" I asked her before Ella smiled at me.

"Do you see that man over there? By the filling station?" She said as I was looking at the redheaded man that she was mentioning. He looked like a model but one that was brooding a lot. I nodded.

"Yeah, he was filling his bottle. What, are you afraid of him or what?" I said bluntly to Ella before she cursed under her breath.

"Remember when I told you that I have a boss that was a stick in the mud?" She said as my eyes were wide as a saucer.

No way!

"Wait, don't tell me, that's him? Whew, quite hot," I said as I was checking her former boss again as he was refilling his bottle. Ella gritted her teeth.

"This is not the time to appreciate the male's body. He cannot be here. I thought he was in France for that conference meeting that he will be wanting to get some juicy detail," Ella said as I was arching my eyebrow at her.

I think this was ridiculous. Why Ella has to hide was beyond my understanding.

"Okay, first and foremost, you need to get out of that hiding spot," I said as I was dragging her out of her hiding spot. If she behaved like this in the future, I think that boss of her will take advantage of her even more.

"Second, you go and say hi. Or maybe ask him what is he doing here? Out in NYC where he supposed to be in Seattle," I said as I was pushing Ella to meet him. I don't think that she should be afraid of this man.

He was quite Ella's type, by the way.

"No, what are you doing? Are you insane? He is not friendly with me when we used to work together so I don't think he would appreciate being here and chatting with me, his employee," Ella hissed at me before I was rolling my eyes at her.

She was being delusional right now.

"Come on, Ella. You need to step up and you need to confront this devil of yours. Maybe he was not as cold as you think," I said as Ella was looking at me.

"You want to bet?" She said as she was resisting my push. For someone petite, she was quite strong.

Until the man in question was calling for Ella.

"Ella? Ella Lattone, is that you?" His voice was nice and sultry. I think my knees would turn to jelly if my heart was not stuck on someone else.

As if he would ever notice me!

Ella was looking at me before I was arching my eyebrows at her. She was being childish right now because she was glaring at me.

Hi, Mr. Hayes. Long time no see," Ella said as she was trying to be cheerful to see her former boss.

Which I cringed.

"If I recall, it was only a month. What are you doing here?" Her boss asked Ella before she was looking at me as she turned to regard him. I think his name was Cameron Hayes or something.

I have been hearing about this crush of Ella ever since she was an intern at WWF magazine. I thought she went out of that crush but I was mistaken.

She was more infatuated with him even more now.

"Well, I am pursuing my Ph.D. here. What about you?" Ella said before Hayes nodded.

"What a small world! I am doing the same thing as well. I hope to see you at one of my classes. We can be classmates from now on,"

"That would be lovely, Mr. Hayes," Ella said as she was forcing a smile on her lips.

"Please, call me Cam. It seems that you and I will be the best of friends after all," Hayes said before he excused himself to get to class. I was trying to control my amusement before Ella was glaring at me.

"I hope this interaction made you happy now, Daisy," Ella said as she went out of the cafeteria. I laughed before I went after her.

"What, no kiss then?'' I said as we were sitting outside to finish our food.
