Chapter 24: The Pursuit

Dylan Windell's POV

I was looking around the lab when I was seeing there was no one. I sighed as I went to my table. I see that Daisy was not here yet. Or maybe I was too early? I shook my head as I have been shopping for an engagement ring. And I have found the perfect one for Daisy Dyer's hand. I smiled as I felt the heaviness of the box in my bag.

I was smiling when I was stacking my papers when I heard someone was knocking on the door. I turned to walk and open the door for my visitor. I know it was not Daisy as she would use her card to get inside.

"Maya, why are you here?" I asked my colleague as she was crying right now. I never saw her cry before so I don't know why today she was crying. Was she in pain? Have some cramps? I don't know how to comfort her.

"Oh, Dylan. It was the most horrible thing," she said and without a thought, she was hugging me. I was taken back as I don't know what to do with her in my arms. I never had anyone in my arms but Daisy.

And it felt wrong all of a sudden.

I did not do anything as I was listening to the sob. She was totally upset so I just listened to her until she was ready to talk. After a few moments, Maya composed herself as she was getting out of our one-sided embrace, mostly on her part. She smiled weakly as she was wiping her tears.

"Sorry, I guess the whole hormone thing was getting at me," she said as she was looking at me. I nodded before she sighed.

"I just wanted to talk with you. But after seeing you, I think I just have to tell you then," she said as she was looking at me. Wait, I know that look. It was the look that Daisy has been giving me for the last 2 years until I accused her father.

It was gone now and I missed it.

But as soon as I saw it in Maya's eyes, I know I only wanted Daisy to have that look for me. The look of admiration and love.

Love, what a weird concept for me.

I cleared my throat before I stepped away from Maya. I know what she was going to say but I stopped her before she declared her love to me. I don't want to give her hope but I will be honest with you.

"Maya, you're a great friend but I don't think I can reciprocate your feelings. You must have been through a lot to get emotional and all this but I know deep down, what you feel for me was nothing," I said as I was looking at her. She blinked at me before she flushed. I think I hit the right nerve. Then, Maya cleared her throat.

"Well, I think you're right. It was just…too much. I just find out that Silas was a fucking pervert and he has been expelled from the faculty," she said as she was sighing before she shook her head. I arched my eyebrow at her.

"Isn't Silas your…"

"He was but I broke up with him. I don't think I want to get involved with a pervert. He has no shame on himself," she said as she was staring at me. I blinked before I was clearing my throat.

"Is that all that you wanted to say to me?" I asked her before her eyes changed. It was wary before I asked her what it was.

"What is it? I know you wanted to tell me something so spit it out," I said before she closed her eyes. Then she looked at me.

"You know your partner…"

"Daisy Dyer. Her name is Daisy," I said to Maya before she scowled.

"Okay, Daisy has been transferred to the Midwest Research Station for her thesis. It was on the faculty news. Lucia said that she has been extraordinary with the theory that everyone was trying to prove. So she decided to take her there under Chris Yang's guidance. I thought you might want to know," Maya said as I was running through the door.

I did not know at all and I was planning to propose to that damn woman. Why Daisy Dyer was so hard to please?

I was running up the stairs as I was going to the only person that I know has everything to do with this matter.

Lucia, our advisor.

I was knocking on the door before I was opening the door and I saw that Lucia was talking with the person that sat next to Daisy during the conference dinner.

Eliot Park.

He was amused to see that I was rushing to get into the office before he stood up and Lucia was shaking her hand with him.

"We will be in contact then. I was hoping to hear from you soon," Lucia said as she was smiling at the heir of the pharmaceutical company. Eliot smiled before he excused himself. I was giving him space to leave as he was smirking at me.

"Rushing somewhere, coz?"

"None of your business," I hissed at him before Eliot shrugged. I was fuming with anger before Eliot was out of the way and I turned to look at Lucia who was smirking at me.

"What is the meaning of this?!" I shouted before Lucia was rolling her eyes at me.

"There is no need for shouting. You will attract people's attention and you know how I felt about that," she said as I was pacing back and forth in front of her.

"Will you please settle down and talk with me like a normal person?" She asked as she took her seat. I could not sit still when I know that Daisy has been going out of the city to be in Midwest Research Station. I think I might skin someone alive.

Or maybe just Lucia for now.

"Why you let her go there? You know it was not safe," I said as I was looking at Lucia. She was amused with me before she was sipping on her coffee. I don't think it was time to sip on some coffee.

"You know what I meant," I said warningly at her as she rolled her eyes again.

"Please. If anything happens, I know that Chris Yang will be reporting it to me. She's under my guidance so it was my duty to take care of her. And besides, her Aunt Milly will be going nuts if I was sending her to the wolves before anything happened. Milly will have my head," Lucia said as she was fond of that old lady. The first time I met her, she gave me goosebumps.

I sighed before I was looking at her. I was pacing back and forth before Lucia put her cup down and leaned toward me.

"Look, if you wanted to go…"

"You know I do,"

"…then I will be happy to write you a letter for the recommendation spot. But I think all the spot has been taken unless…" Lucia smirked at me as I was arching my eyebrow at her.

"If you want to share with Daisy,"

"Done," I said before she changed her mind. But she did not. Because she laughed. She fucking laughed at me.

"What's so funny?" I asked her before I frowned at her. She was taking a deep breath before she was shaking her head.

"Nothing, it was just too much for me. God!" Lucia said before she was clearing her throat. Then she turned to regard me.

"You may leave immediately—"

I did not hear the rest of it as I was dashing through the door to get to my intended before anything can happen to her.

Lucia the Advisor's POV

I was looking at the young man that was chasing after his love. I was smiling as I was sipping on the tea. Ah, young love! So much to discover about each other as I was looking at the picture of my husband. I wondered what he was doing right now. Then, the phone rang. I picked it up as I was looking at the ID number.

"So, did he got the bait?" The person asked as I was rolling my eyes at her. Geez, for someone that was old like my best friend, she was too restless to do anything.

"Mil, you have to wait. I think our boy will go meet you first before anything," I said as I was looking at the picture of my husband. I was tracing my husband's face before Mil was sighing.

"I think I will have a lot of things to be done with him then," she said grunted. I laughed before I was leaning on the chair.

"Don't go overboard, Mil,"

"Who said I would not?" She said as I was rolling my eyes. Then, a knock was interrupting me before I sighed.

"Look, I got to go. My appointment's here," I said as Mil sighed.

"Okay, I talk to you later then," she said before I was smiling at my student and went on with our discussion.
