Clark suddenly bared his heart for her, and Cassandra could only blush. She was at her wit's end.

The small space they were in seemed to get smaller and smaller. Cassandra didn't even have the courage to look at him.

Clark's eyes were fixated on her. He slowly raised his hand to cup her face. Clark could feel Cassandra jolt slightly from the warmth of his hand.

Cassandra's eyes started to water and she choked, pulling away to cough.

She coughed harder and harder, struggling to gather her breath.

"A-Are you alright?"

Clark asked worriedly. Cassandra was still coughing aloud.

She wasn't able to speak properly since she was still clearing her throat, so she waved her hand in front of him as she tried to smile awkwardly.

"I'll drive you home,"

Clark replied, starting the engine quickly as he drove to Garden Villa.

As they passed by the busy crossroad, Cassandra found one of the billboards plastering two familiar faces. It was a photo of Arthur and Amanda.

Arthur and Amanda were standing back to back from each other, posed with beaming smiles. Above them was a logo of G City. They had become the faces of G City.

There was something about Arthur's face that seemed to remind her of something.

But when she tried to dig deeper, the memory escaped her.

It seemed like she wasn't able to concentrate because she was still trying to recover. However, it continued to bother her for the entire trip home.

Once they arrived, Cassandra got out of the car and ran straight to her room without looking back at Clark once. Clark got off just to greet her mother.

"Auntie, I think she needs to stay home and rest. I'll send a doctor over tomorrow. It's better to have the doctor come than to take her to the hospital. She'd rest better here,"

Clark remarked, and Edith was touched. She took his hand in hers, looking up at him in gratitude.

"Thank you, Clark. You are so kind. I'll see you tomorrow, then!"

Edith nodded and let him go. She turned to return to her room quietly with a smile plastered on her face.

Edith truly wished that Cassandra would see how good Clark was to her! But she knew her daughter would be too stubborn to see it. If it weren't for her sickness, Cassandra would never even spare a look at Clark.

All Edith wanted was for Cassandra and Clark to spend more time together. The longer Clark stayed with Cassandra, the higher the possibility that they'd fall in love.

True to his word, Clark visited Cassandra for the next few days. Her sickness seemed to revolve around her voice. Her voice was still incredibly husky, and she often complained of the itch in her throat.

"I can come back to work tomorrow. I'm feeling so much better now,"

Cassandra insisted during dinner.

"Oh, come on. Don't be in such a hurry. You're the lobby manager! You could scare the guests away with your hoarse voice!"

Edith said matter-of-factly, imm

“Let's go and register our marriage on your birthday!”

Marrying Daniel should have been her best birthday gift, but everything was ruined the moment when she caught him sleeping with another woman on the day before her birthday.

“He’s going to marry that woman! She... was my best friend!"

ose to him. She couldn't let things come back to what they once were.

'When will I see you again;

When will the sky stop to rain;

When will the stars start to shine;

When will I know that you're mine...'

Cassandra continued to sing, eyes welling up with tears. She missed him so much. There was no point in time when he wasn't on her mind. Although she tried to suppress her feelings as much as she could, they still kept resurfacing.

She reminded herself of the awful truth. Rufus had his own life now. Rufus had fallen in love with another woman. She was now just a page in his memory book, slowly being forgotten.

They were just so complicated. They weren't meant to be a couple.

Cassandra was stuck reminiscing about the past before she noticed that the song had long since ended. She was conflicted. Unconsciously, she rubbed a leaf of the tree back and forth. The skin of the leaf was tore away and her hand was stained with the sap.

Cassandra smelt the spicy scent from the sap. It was so unpleasant. Meanwhile, she felt an overwhelming emotion of sadness looming over her. She felt like she had to do something to vent out her sadness.

She reeled out of her thoughts when she heard his front door open.

Cassandra froze still as she watched Rufus coming out of his house. Her eyes and body were fixed, not daring to make a single move.

This was the closest she had been to him since they broke up. While she was afraid of screwing it up, she was sure that he wouldn't be able to see her because of how dark it was.

Even though she couldn't see his face clearly, Cassandra could vividly imagine what he looked like at this particular moment.

His face must be as stoic as it usually was. He would carefully light a cigarette, smoke puffing out of his mouth in a small cloud.

'When will I see you again...and there you are...' she murmured to herself, quietly, her heart aching from missing him so much.
