Clark stood in front of Cassandra, his hand poised awkwardly in the air.

Shock was clearly written in his face. Cassandra felt remorse instantly as a thought sank in. She was rejecting and hurting a man who had done her nothing but good. Guilt crept in her chest as she looked away, unable to meet his eyes any longer.

She knew what Clark desired from her, and it was with absolute certainty that she would not be able to give him what he wanted.

With things turning out like this, she did not want to give Clark any more reasons to pursue her. It would only turn out for the worst.

Clark was surprised, even at himself. He had never treated a woman with such patience. He always took what he wanted, then left without so much as a goodbye. But for Cassandra, he found himself putting in so much effort, planning everything meticulously down to the last detail. It was the first time he had ever wanted anything so badly, but in the end, he still failed.

'She knows that Rufus and Amanda reside in that the cottage beside us. Amanda is living inside the place used to belong to her, as if she has taken her place. Wouldn't that be enough for Cassandra to forget him?

Any other woman would have found love turning to hatred. She should be cursing him.

But now, she is acting as if nothing ever happened between them. Just what is going on in her mind? Why is she refusing to let go of him?' Clark thought bitterly.

"Mr. Ji," Cassandra addressed him with his title. She was talking formally and deliberately putting distance between them. "I really appreciate your help, but I want to stand on my own two feet instead of depending on other people. I don't want to just keep receiving favors

When her boyfriend betrayed her, all light and joy was gone from Cherry’s life. Deserted, bereft of hope, she married a man that she had barely met, but she had never expected him to be her ex-boyfriend’s uncle.

Cherry thought that she had finally found her happiness, but she had no idea about the dark secrets that were bound to unfold and haunt her forever...

ith asked in confusion. Cassandra's words made no sense. Everything was happening all too quickly.

"We can talk about the art gallery later on. It's not that urgent. Right now, I have to focus on the studio. It's a very demanding job, not to mention I'm just starting out," she covered.

Cassandra walked up to Edith, linking an arm with her and leading her to the living room. With her new job, she would not have as much time anymore, and she wanted to explain it to her mother. She had plenty of anxiety about not being able to check on her as much, and she had to make sure her mother would be alright.

"Mom, the job that I have now would take up a lot of time. I will be even busier than before. I'm afraid that I wouldn't be able to stay with you at home." She took her mother's hand in hers and looked into her eyes as she continued, "You have to promise to take good care of yourself. If you don't feel well, give me a call. Eat healthy and remember to keep a peaceful mind…"

Cassandra couldn't help but remind Edith. She had been so used to living with her and she was starting to feel uneasy about the sudden changes.
