Although Amanda had braced herself for a shock, Rufus's speech shook her to the core.

"I don't understand what you're trying to say, and I'm not sure whether I want to understand it at all. All I know is that I am yours, Rufus."

Amanda's voice trembled and broke at times, but she consistently looked upon Rufus's face with eagerness.

Unfortunately, Rufus was adamant and unyielding in his position. He wanted to end his relationship with Amanda no matter how unbearable it was for both of them. He no longer had the strength to keep on pretending just because he was afraid of hurting her.

"Please, Amanda, don't cheat yourself. I can't keep doing this anymore. By the time you come to realize that what I am saying is right, it might be too late for you. You deserve a better life instead of wasting your time and energy on me."

Amanda was devastated, her heart left in a disarray of shattered pieces. The harsh truth, albeit, necessary, was too much for her to take and she found it difficult to stand straight.

"What do you want me to do, Rufus?"

On the verge of tears, she raised her head and looked at Rufus, her eyes sparkling like opals in their ardor.

Finding it hard to deliver the final, decisive blow, Rufus closed his eyes and clenched his fists tightly.

"I've found you a house. It's time for you to move out!"

In one fell swoop, Rufus tore down her entire world with his bare hands. It was not like he had a choice. With Cassandra back in his life, he couldn't allow Amanda to live with him in his house.

As her lips trembled and her shoulders heaved with emotion, a lone tear traced down her cheek and just like that, the floodgates opened.

Rufus continued, "I'll send someone to help you move your things tomorrow. You can start packing up tonight."

As if deprived of compassion, Rufu

“Do you still want to run away after what happened last night?”

Their relationship changes overnight. She tries to keep her distance from him, while he comes closer and closer.

Spoiling her, he gives her everything she desires. His only wish is to keep her around. The whole world is envious of what she has.

“Never rush in a relationship,” she says calmly.

still outside, playing out their roles in a melodramatic scene. One struggled to run away while the other struggled to stop him from running away. Rufus never knew Amanda to be such a persistent woman. No matter how hard he tried to escape from her, he failed.

"Let me go, please. I don't want to keep hurting you."

Rufus struggled, yet he was careful, afraid that he might exert too much strength to pull her hands off; while Amanda was begging incessantly. But what could Rufus do? He didn't want to hurt her anymore. It was too much for him to take.

"You've already hurt me! My heart is broken now. But I will be fine as long as you stay. Please, don't go..."

Amanda's tears kept rolling down her cheeks like a rainstorm, as if she would cry all the water out of her body.

"Amanda, stop it. This isn't helping you."

Frustrated, Rufus took a deep breath and exhaled slowly to calm his nerves.

"Don't leave me, please!"

Amanda's ludicrous begging episode continued. Finally, Rufus couldn't hold his exasperation anymore.

He pried her grasp away and pushed her back, all of a sudden.

Rufus didn't mean to be so rude, but Amanda wasn't responding to reason and he just couldn't take it anymore.
