Standing on her toes, Amanda carefully peeked from the rooftop. Right then and there, tears started running down her face.

Wanting to stop Amanda from jumping over the edge, Charlie was on a rush to get upstairs. Horace and Jill, on the other hand, were thinking the exact same thing, so they followed Charlie and hurriedly ran to the rooftop as well.

"Oh, dear God! Please don't do it, Miss Ke! This is the Tang house! I can't just sit back and watch as you do such a thing on our property! Listen, I don't have the slightest clue as to what's going on between you and my husband's bastard son, but every debt will eventually be paid. I don't think there's any animosity between you and our family, so you can't be doing this to us!"

Jill raised her voice, making the air feel even heavier than it already was.

"Will you just shut the hell up! Everyone here knows you have a sharp tongue! So, please!" Horace snapped.

Even Horace couldn't tolerate her haughtiness any longer. He just glared at her with his brows furrowed. One second, Jill seemed to be totally out of it, and the next, all of her crying just abruptly came to a stop. It was as though someone had pressed the mute button on the TV.

Afraid of making a sound, every single person present was holding their breath, and their eyes were completely glued to Amanda.

With tears streaming from her eyes, she slowly moved her feet over the railing.

She desperately tried to do so a couple of times, but her injuries prevented her from getting over. All of the other people watching her had their hearts racing so much every time she would move her feet.

"Amanda, my love, you don't have to do this. Please try to calm yourself down and move closer to me. I can't bear to lose you!" Charlie said ever so gently.

He had never been that scared in his life. Being on top for so many years, he always seemed so unyielding whenever he was standing before his students and employees. This was actually the first time he had ever felt anything like that—it utterly baffled him.

"I hope you can forgive me, Father. But I have

When her boyfriend betrayed her, all light and joy was gone from Cherry’s life. Deserted, bereft of hope, she married a man that she had barely met, but she had never expected him to be her ex-boyfriend’s uncle.

Cherry thought that she had finally found her happiness, but she had no idea about the dark secrets that were bound to unfold and haunt her forever...

rt to act as if it was none of his business.

With his mind fully made up, he shifted his gaze toward Amanda.

"Amanda, please come down from there. I promise that I'll be with you forever," he tried his best to make his voice as calm as it could be.

Upon staring Amanda straight in the eyes, that was all he said, nothing more. Like a bolt from the blue, Amanda's eyes turned bright again just like two lightning bugs on a summer night.

"Rufus, are you serious? Are you going to be a man of your words? I really hope you're not lying."

She got more than she bargained for so she had a bit of a hard time processing what he just said. This prompted her to look at her father to find some form of reassurance.

"By all means, my dear! Listen, I heard those words with my very own ears as well. Rufus will keep his promise, I assure you. I know Rufus very well, and he's not the kind of man who would carelessly make a promise he knows he can't keep. For now, why don't you grab my hand and come down from there? And to celebrate, I'll make sure to throw the most extravagant engagement party for the two of you!"

Charlie exclaimed, resting his hand on his chest to show her a sign of giving her his words. As he had been hoping, Amanda began to ease up and refrained from doing what she was attempting to do.

Just a spitting distance away from Charlie, Jill leaned over to Horace.
