At first, Cassandra didn't realize that what she'd just said made no sense but she eventually came to her senses.

Cassandra was so embarrassed that she blushed. She tried to explain herself but when she opened her mouth, she didn't know what to say.

Rufus looked at Cassandra in her embarrassment, chuckling.

"It's getting late. We should go,"

urged Rufus, who had already put on his suit and tie. The well-fitted suit perfectly showed his nice figure.

The car drove them to the hotel, where the party was going to be held. Looping her hand around Rufus's arm, Cassandra walked with Rufus to the venue.

Cassandra put on her best smile as she accompanied Rufus to make nice with his business partners.

Almost everyone knew that Rufus was Horace's son. However, Rufus refused to be connected with the Tang family.

Lionel was also at the party. However when Rufus saw him, he completely ignored him and walked the other direction as if they were strangers.

Lionel was hurt by Rufus's indifference. To calm himself down, he took a swig of the wine but suddenly, he felt a tap on his shoulder.

He turned and found Chester. The man wore a black suit and a dark expression. It seemed that he had never looked otherwise.

"Mr. Tang, what's going on with you? Why are you drinking alone at such a party?"

Chester asked in a hoarse voice. The sound of his voice was just like the noise that rubbing two pieces of metal created. It was so unpleasant that it made other people feel uncomfortable or uneasy.

"Humph, my dear brother, Rufus. It's obvious that he's trying to rival Tang Group. He founded a new branch office here in G City and that makes him almost a direct competitor of us,"

Lionel said indignantly as he looked at Rufus through the crowd.

With Arthur and Dawn Star Group now gone, Lionel figured that the Tang Group would maintain its status of the leading company in their industry. He never expected for Rufus to attempt to rival the Tang Group. Lionel assumed that Rufus was doing this on purpose.

"Don't worry, Mr. Tang. With my support, you can do whatever you want. I don't think he'll stand a chance against you,"

Chester responded with a faint smile on his face. The smile contorted his scar into something that looked hideous.

Lionel returned a polite smile. He wasn't confident that he could compete against Rufus—he knew himself well enough.

However, Lionel couldn't say this to his investor Chester. The man tried to comfort Lionel but to no avail. Instead, Lionel only felt overwhelmed. He grabbed another glass of wine when he saw a waiter passed by. It was his way of calming himself down.

Meanwhile, Cassandra was having a nice chat with Rufus.

She'd attended numerous events like this one before. While she preferred not to, it didn't mean that she didn't know

Jean Wen sacrificed herself for family interests. Before her husband divorced her, she made every effort to please him.

"You are inexperienced in bed," he said coldly.

"You! Give that land to my family, or I won't agree to divorce," Jean replied furiously.

"Fine. It is exactly what I am thinking about," he sneered.

Amanda said slowly. Her words hit Cassandra like huge boulders. Her legs started to feel like jelly—like they couldn't hold her weight anymore.

"What exactly are you trying to say?"

Cassandra pressed on. She was only getting more and more nervous.

"I'll tell you on one condition,"

Amanda replied calmly, putting on an evil smile on her face.

In the dim light, Amanda's cunning eyes and her evil smile made her look frightening.

But Cassandra just wanted to know the truth that she didn't let herself get fazed.

"What do you want?" Cassandra asked without missing a beat.

"Why don't you come here? A little closer so I can tell you,"

Amanda said with a smile, batting her eyelashes.

Cassandra scooted over so that she was closer to Amanda.

They were standing beside the fountain which wasn't working at the moment. But the pool was full of water, on which the reflection of the two women could clearly be seen.

Amanda looked at the woman in front of her, and a feeling of jealousy rose in her heart.

Yes, she was jealous of Cassandra! She hated her for taking away the man she loved.

She was stuck with Clark, a man she didn't love. While Cassandra got Rufus, the man she so wanted. It wasn't fair.

Cassandra lost her baby and she should feel bad about it. Now Amanda too was pregnant.

She didn't want to have a baby with Clark. When she found out she was pregnant, Amanda tried to figure out a way to get rid of it. But with Clark and the servants watching her so closely, she couldn't do anything. So when she saw Cassandra just now at the party, an idea came to her. If she was going down, she was taking Cassandra down with her.

As a gust of cold wind blew over them, Cassandra shivered.

"Miss Ke, will you tell me now?"

Cassandra pleaded.

Amanda merely responded with a cold smile. Cassandra felt as if it had gotten chillier.
