Amanda's face turned as pale as a ghost. The water nearly spilled from the cup in her hand.

'Didn't Clark leave already? What is he doing here?'

Amanda wanted to tell Charlie the truth but bailed at the last minute when Clark suddenly appeared.

Clark was walking towards Charlie and Amanda at a slow pace. His eyebrows were knitted together, his face wore a hint of sternness, and his eyes looked remorseful.

"Amanda, it was I who did not protect you. If I went with you the other night, there would be no way Cassandra could hurt you."

Clark looked regretful. To Charlie, he was such a good husband.

"Amanda, Clark's right. We wouldn't put anything past Cassandra. She deserves a lesson!"

Charlie said fiercely. Suddenly, Amanda's hands felt clammy.

It seemed that there was no way to control what was happening anymore. Amanda couldn't do anything about it.

Clark sat on the edge of the bed and stretched out his hand to stroke Amanda's hair gently. Amanda's body froze sharply and trembled slightly in response.

"Amanda. Don't be afraid. Don't be nervous. I swear, from now on, no one can hurt you."

Clark sat with his back to Charlie. His tone sounded sincere and concerned but there seemed to be a smirk playing on his lips.

'I have just left for a while. Amanda intends to change her mind?'

It seems that he had to keep an eye on her all the time.

If she confessed, how could he get rid of Rufus?

Charlie saw that Amanda and Clark were quite close which made him feel satisfied.

'Rufus has such bad taste. How dare he choose a divorced woman over my beautiful and smart daughter?

Luckily, we still have Clark who's head over heels for my daughter and that's good enough for me.'

"Amanda, I'd get a good lawyer for this case. I've talked to a few already. The maximum she's going to get is three years. I just want her to get the punishment she deserves. And I will make sure there is no way she is going to get a job in G City in the future. I want everyone to see what a rat she is, and let's see who could possibly still be on her side."

Charlie was fuming at the thought of Rufus choosing Cassandra over Amanda.

"Mr. Ke, there's something I'd like to discuss with you. Can we... c

"You're my wife in name only, on paper only. My heart and love will never be yours."

Edward made it clear to Daisy that she was nothing to him. They were both victims of family greed -- the marriage was arranged for them.

Six years passed. She remained quiet, gaining a reputation in the army as a tough-as-nails colonel. When she walked into his life again, Edward fell in love with this woman...

ufus didn't mean to betray him, there was bound to be consequences.

'I've been looking for ways to get him kicked out and this is the perfect time!

The Dark Night Group will finally be mine!

Charlie's not as young as he used to be so he won't be a problem. Rufus is the one to look out for. As long as he gets kicked out, I'll have the power and I can do whatever I want!' Clark's head was overwhelmed with all those thoughts, but he still kept himself calm, like always.

Charlie grew silent as he looked out the window, his face gloomy.

It was dark outside. Only the lamplights were the source of light.

Cars traipsed along the road lit by city lights.

'Why are there so many things happening? I never should've allowed Amanda to come here.' The old man let out a heavy sigh.

Clark couldn't figure out what Charlie was thinking about based on the expression on his face.

"Mr. Ke, to be kind to your enemies is to be cruel to yourself. Chester may have been like a brother to you but he betrayed you. And Rufus? Rufus is a threat! If you don't deal with him now, you'll regret it!"

Clark said intrusively.

"Amanda's my wife and your daughter. Rufus knew that but he still chose to defend Cassandra. I don't think he'd ever make a concession. He did that to you! And you're his mentor! How can you still respect him?"

Clark held nothing back.

'Your daughter or your favourite student, who will you choose, Charlie?' An unnoticeable smirk showed on his face.
