Rufus's surprise was apparent. The moment he heard Cassandra, he froze with his eyes fixed intensely on her face.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

he asked reproachfully. There was no mistaking the anger in his voice.

"There was so much going on in the company. I didn't want to bother you with my petty personal affairs. You just seemed so busy,"

Cassandra replied sadly, lowering her head.

She could not stop thinking about the fact that her father was in prison for a crime he did not commit. What's more, he was set up. This consumed her since the moment she found out from Clark.

"I even think my dad's case has something to do with the mayor of G City,"

Cassandra suddenly added. She expected Rufus to be just as shocked as she was, but he seemed to display no such reaction. Instead, his eyes merely darkened.

"Stop thinking about the case. From now on, you are not going to do anything," he said resolutely. "Let me handle it, instead,"

he added firmly, looking her straight in the eye.

"This case involves my dad. I can't just leave it behind completely,"

Cassandra said stubbornly, raising her chin in defiance.

"Clark Ji is a very powerful man. Throwing accusations at him won't be that simple for ordinary people such as yourself. I have had my men following him for a long time. While I was abroad, I also met some people and managed to gather more pieces of evidence against him. Still, even with all of those, it's hard to defeat him, especially abroad. Here in G City, though, we might have a better chance. He's technically new here. We might be able to bring him down if we do it here,"

Rufus explained, slowly unfolding his plan to Cassandra. She looked at him wordlessly, stunned.

For most people, it probably was just a quick news feature that was as easy to forget as it was to listen. For Cassandra, however, it was the result of her and Rufus's numerous sleepless nights.

As she expected, Rufus arrived home very early in the evening on the same day. He looked very refreshed.

"Rufus, I want to discuss the arrangement of the wedding after dinner, with you. That is going to be the most important event for us!"

Edith said when they sat at the dining table for supper. She had not forgotten the things she wanted to talk to him about. Luckily, he was home early. Of course, she was determined to grab that opportunity to finally iron out some details.
