But before Rufus could ask the reason, Amanda continued, "I won't let you come in until I feel I'm getting better."

Amanda was sitting on the floor right behind the door. She was so tired and weary that she said, "Could you please leave me alone? I just don't want you to see me in this situation."

Rufus was still knocking at the door. In a plain tone, he said, "If you are not willing to open the door for now, I'll just wait outside. Once you're ready, I'll be here."

Amanda forcefully bit her lip and looked quite distressed.

Her heart was suffering. She was thinking of freeing herself completely, but on the other hand, she was not ready to abandon her affection towards the man outside the door.

Rufus was left with no choice but to sat outside the door. He didn't utter a single word, but Amanda knew that he was there once he said he would be there waiting for her.

Bruises were all over Amanda's arms. She violently seized and pulled on them.

Rufus didn't say a word, but he knocked at the door once in a while.

He wanted to let her know that he was still there.

After a long time, Amanda finally opened the door.

When he saw her, Rufus greeted her with a faint smile at the corners of his mouth, "Amanda."

Amanda was standing still while her eyes were fixed on Rufus. After quite a while, she suddenly ran to him.

Rufus didn't push her away from him. Instead, he tried his best to console her just like an elder brother would do. "Hush. Everything will be okay," he said softly.

"I still don't feel well. Rufus, what should I do?" Amanda said in a quivering voice.

Rufus was gently stroking her hair. Then in a soft voice, he said, "Always remember that with me by your side, you'll survive your depression."

With all the strength that was left to her, Amanda nodded to Rufus.

Rufus had no choice but to leave his work behind. It was because Amanda had been getting worse in the past few days. He could not let any accident happen to Amanda while her father was away.

Meanwhile, Rufus told Cassandra that Amanda's depression had been getting worse in the past few days. That was why he would have to pay more attention to her.

He felt sorry for Cassandra for he had to pay more attention to taking care of another woman. So he added, "After Amanda goes abroad, let's take a trip. I'll make sure this time that I will make proper arrangement about everything in advance, so that nothing will disturb us."

Cassandra nodded and said, "Okay. I will wait for you."

After making proper arrangements about both his company and his family, Rufus began trying to treat Amanda in coordination with her psychiatrist.

Amanda violently resisted such treatment and sometimes, she would suddenly refuse to receive psychological guidance when it was already halfway done.

She looked very distressed right after every medical session. She even tried to unconsciously look for something that might harm herself.

But Rufus was always by her side to calm her down and keep her sober.

Normal people could hardly figure out how a depression patient thought about things. Sometimes even the patients thems

"You're my wife in name only, on paper only. My heart and love will never be yours."

Edward made it clear to Daisy that she was nothing to him. They were both victims of family greed -- the marriage was arranged for them.

enough attention to Cassandra lately, so I'm planning to take her out to have a trip. Your father will be back in a couple of days. I'm leaving."

Then he left the house without looking back.

When he reached the company, Rufus felt a mild headache. At first, he had thought that Amanda had given up her affection towards him since a long time ago.

But now, he learned that she still had feelings for him.

Winnie saw that Rufus was frowning. She asked, "Are you okay, Mr. Luo? What happened?"

Rufus caressed his forehead and said, "It's just something private. Nothing concerns the company."

He knew that it was improper to talk about private things with an employee. It was a common sense that Winnie should not make further inquiry.

"Is it about Miss Ke?" she hurriedly asked out of impulse.

Rufus slightly nodded to agree and immediately said, "Winnie, it's working time. We should talk only about our company and nothing else. Go back to your work."

Winnie could do nothing but stop speaking. However, she resented Amanda even more.

Rufus acted as he said. He didn't go to the Ke family house to accompany Amanda to have supper today. Instead, he went back home.

Cassandra looked at Rufus who was sitting next to her. She asked, "Do you want to go check on her? Are you sure nothing bad will happen?"

Rufus answered in a plain tone, "I have consulted her psychiatrist. She has been in a stable mental state recently. Obviously she is getting better. She will be fine even without me."

Cassandra still could not set her mind at rest. All of a sudden, Rufus shifted the topic of conversation.

"Is there any place you want to travel to? Do you have any suggestion? Or shall I decide for everything?" Rufus asked.

It was not until now that Cassandra remembered that Rufus had once said that he would take her out to have a trip when he was no longer busy.

Honestly, Cassandra wanted to go to Melbourne again to visit Greyson and Hertha. But it seemed there was already a destination in Rufus's mind. Therefore, she just echoed him, "Okay. It's all up to you."
