Bai Lo watched in horror as he felt the paralyzing power that he had kept on the talisman weakening. Since he was constantly pouring out his qi to stabilize the power of the talisman, the effect felt by the talisman could be felt by him as well.
"Hah!" He grunted as he tried to keep control. If the man was to break free from the paralyzing effect of the restriction he had applied on him. He had already used a fair amount of qi on the talisman to activate it. The restriction that was holding back Zhen Bo was getting weaker!
"Is he summoning some kind of beast?" His eyes were focused on Zhen Bo who was now covered in red transparent bubbles. They were kind of disgusting to look at and the smell was even worse. It really did smell like dried blood.
The whole arena was filled with a gasp as they watched in horror at the big bubble of blood. Zhen Bo was cut off from their sight completely. Was he there inside the bubble or was he not there?
The sect leader of the Great Tiger Palace stopped drinking. He slightly opened his eyes to peek at the scene of the fight that was taking place. Seeing the big red bubbling mass in the fighting arena, a satisfied smile spread across his face.
He curled up his lips in a meaningful smile upon seeing the current progression of the event. The smile faded in a blink of an eye. He closed his eyes back again and continued drinking his wine as if nothing had happened.
Meanwhile, the crowd along with the section of the participants was getting heated at this unexpected turn of events. The white-haired boy in a white robe looked as if he was having some trouble dealing with this. His fair face was covered in sweat and twisted in anger.
The lightning that was surprising his body got fiercer but was not enough to hold back the monster he was fighting.
Plop!
The bubbles finally busted, the microdroplets of blood dispersing all around the arena. But that was not the true danger that awaited Bai Lo. He flinched when he felt the effect of the talisman being nullified by something.
No! It was not nullifying! It was overcoming the paralysis and at a speed that he could neither comprehend nor follow. Whatever it was, it managed to overcome Bai Lo's strength and pressurize his divine sense.
"This is bad," he perspired as he looked before him, at his opponent. He knew things were not going to be easy, but he never thought he was going to meet a powerful foe this early in the game! He supposed that the man was probably a few stages ahead of him in cultivation.
He had planned to wrap up the match in a few minutes but seems like heaven was truly against him!! Not only does his plan go down the drain, but he might also have to use up other cards of his.
Bai Lo was not the only one who was distressed about the current situation. The spectators were truly taken aback by Zhen Bo. Everyone gasped in surprise at the emergence of a weirdly creepy-looking beast that was standing right in front of Zhen Bo in a protective stance.
The color of the beast was crimson red, almost looking like blood. It had no hair in its body as most of its skin and muscle looked slimy. The creature seemed to be divided into head, body, and tail with two hind legs and two front hands. It was not that big, it was only half of the height of Zhen Bo, but the fear it produced soared far and high.
"This is a beast which feasts on blood," Zhen Bo said as he cracked his stiff neck. The parlaying effect caught him at the wrong time and wrong position.
"Much better," he exhaled feeling relief on the joints of his neck and arms.
"Isn't he cute?" He said tapping on the round head of the creature. He looked like a proud parent who was boasting about his children to his neighbor. As if feeling happy, the beast too shook its head; its gesture looked somewhat similar to that of a cat purring under the petting of someone.
"I made him myself," he snickered.
"I could care less!!" Bai Lo yelled as he threw a condensed ball of qi towards him.
"This trick again," Zhen Bo sneered at the ball of qis that were coming at him. He already knew the elemental abilities of the boy.
'It will either have a paralyzing effect on me or will try to attack the beast first," he thought as his eyes darted to take action to whatever the course of attack the qi was going to take.
But contrary to his thought, it changed its state to that of a lightning bolt just as it was a few meters away from Bai Lo, creating temporary blindness as it shone brightly.
"Shit!" he cursed when he realized he had overlooked such a simple battle technique. But it was too late for him to react to the blinding light.
"You can go back home and make a few siblings for him to play, Yahhhh!!" A shout echoed amidst the light. Bai Lo had jumped towards Zhen Bo with an unscathed sword in his hand. He leaped over the blood beast or whatever that was grunting as it stood guard.
He had channeled his qi into the sword.
"Secret sword art: The lightning Wrath! First strike!"
He yelled as he slammed down his sword at Zhen Bo. Zhen Bo was also swift as he saw the incoming attack.
'Secret art?!' His face frowned when he saw that the boy was already using secret art this early in the tournament. But since it was just the first strike, he assumed it was not going to have much damage. But that also meant one thing, he had to attack with a much superior technique to surpass the attack if he wanted to end the fight here.
He had no time to draw his sword or dodge from where he was standing, but he had something else here that could act as the extension of his physical body.
Could he afford to lose the fight here? Definitely not!!
"Divine blood control: Blood armor!" He muttered as he clasped his hand. His eyes and whole body produced a dull red glow, producing a contrast to the purple hue of the lightning and Bai Lo.
Just as the sword was 1 cm away from his forehead, something happened.
Bai Lo could feel his sword cutting through a piece of flesh. It was like cutting a fresh pile of clay, soft and satisfying. Using his divine sense, he could also sense the life force of the person he had cut slowly declining as it ran out of qi.
Yet, there was some sort of suspicion in his heart. His instinct was shouting out to him that something was definitely wrong and he should retreat.
After landing the strike, he was about to retreat from the mid-air but that was when he felt something clutching onto his legs. Whatever was catching his leg was definitely not human!!
The light finally cleared along with the flying sand. Everyone could finally see what was happening in the arena.
"That thing moved!!" A young lady shouted out in horror as she pointed at a half bleeding creature in the center of the arena that was grabbing onto the leg of Bai Lo. Worse, the place where it had caught him had an ugly patch of red color that resembled blood.
"It is a living creature, of course, it will move," Le Fang Ling who was right beside her clicked her tongue in displeasure when she heard the lady. Everyone could see that!
"Still, that man Zhen Bo," she murmured as he looked at the purple-robed youngster that was smiling gleefully as he watched the scene in front of him. Not even a strand of hair in his body had been hurt.
The blood beast that was tightly wrapped around him like some sort of amour finally separated itself from the body it was protecting. This was the blood armor that Zhen Bo was talking about!
The fastest method to defend against any sort of attack that he was unprepared for had one common solution; using his contracted beast and spirits as the armor. Although he did suffer a bit of backlash, it was worth it.
The blood beast that had taken the first sword strike from Bai Lo had a clear cut that divided its entire body into two halves. The lightning had burned its cells to the microscopic level rendering any sort of regenerating ability USELESS!
Still, it was tenacious! It still was making effort at regenerating the dead and burnt cells while it managed to keep a tight hold on the leg of Bai Lo.
Le Fang Ling dreaded as she could clearly see what was about to come.
"He might do it," she mumbled as her focus increased at the ongoing match.
She had just thought of the possibility but what Zhen Bo did next not only proved her correct but made many people watch with their jaws dropping down.
Zhen Bo took out his sword from his spatial ring and unsheathed it.
"Oho, finally a match with sword huh?" Bai Lo who was still struggling to free himself snickered. But Zhen Bo had some other plan. Instead of attacking Bai Lo, his sword pierced right through the blood beast he had summonsed.
The body of the beast melted and the silvery blade of Zhen Bo turned to a deep dark red color. Without giving time to anyone to recover, he struck Bai Lo on his arm, breaking the tendon there.
Bai Lo yelped out in pain. The sword dropped from his hand and he fell down on his knees, right next to the melted mass of flesh.
"Winner of the First Match! Zhen Bo!!'
Elder Shen's voice rang out in the silent stadium.
