Chapter 17: The Investigation

Liam Hunt's POV

I went out of the bedroom after our little act. Mia was sitting on the counter as she was holding a cup of coffee. I went to her side as I wanted to take a sip. She moved it out of my way.

"make your own," she said as she was looking at the dossier about the people of the organization. I chuckled as I went to the coffee machine and made my own coffee. I waited for a while before I poured myself and went to her side. She was looking at the dossier seriously before I took a sip and took the dossier for myself.

"hey!" Mia said as she was looking intensely at me. I arched my eyebrow at her before looking at it,

"Marco Conti. Really? What's up with this guy and you? Are you having a monkey love on him?" I asked as she grabbed the dossier from me.

"For your information, I tried to get him to our side. I wanted to tell him that he did not make the world a better place. It just got worse and worse with the organization that was fucking controlling everything, from cellphone to satellite. No one is safe anymore, well, at least not under their control," she said as she slammed the dossier. I chuckled at her outburst because it was so cute.

"Now, onto the matter at hand, we need to make sure that no one knows what will happen at the masquerade party tonight. I don't want to alert anyone anymore," Mia said as she sipped on her coffee. I was looking at her as I sipped on my own.

"in that case, we need to make sure that we do not stand out like last time," I said as I put the coffee down and spun Mia around into my arms. She gasped as she looked into my eyes. I took the mug from her hand and put it on the counter.

"We should look into that party before tonight," I whispered into her ear. She melted as she held onto me as I was caressing her arms.

"Liam," she said as I was nuzzling her neck.

"Quit playing around," she said before went into the bedroom and locked the door. I chuckled as I went to sip on my coffee and waited for her to get dress after our little act earlier.

"Okay, are you sure it will be held here?" I asked her as I was confused. I thought the party supposed to be a big gig and grand with people all over the world.

"no, the organization likes to keep things in themselves. We need to make sure that they did not sniff you out and took me to the dungeon," Mia said as she got out of the car. I got out as well when Mia was walking into the lobby of the hotel. I chuckled as I locked the car and went inside as well.

"Hi, room for two?" The receptionist asked us in Spanish when we went to the counter. Mia was smiling happily as she was looking at the pamphlet that was left by someone.

"oh, I'm sorry. I am not allowed to talk about the hotel events with non-customers of the hotel," she said sweetly as she was eyeing us both.

"oh, don't worry. My grandma was not sick," Mia said as she was looking at the pamphlet. The receptionist was eyeing me as I was a threat.

"Don't worry, he's with me," Mia said as she put down the pamphlet and looked at her. She was blushing as her face was getting redder.

"my apologies. The panels send their regards to you, Ms. Duncan," she said before giving a key to Mia. Mia smiled sweetly before taking it.

"it's okay, honey. It happened all the time. Anyway, thank you," Mia said as the receptionist bowed at her.

"let's go," she said as she went inside the hotel. I followed her pursuit as I don't want to blow our undercover.

"what are you talking about?" I asked as she was running toward the stairs.

"no time to explain before the informant gives out the information of me being here. I was supposed to be off the grid, remember?" She said as we were walking upstairs. It was tiring before we came to level 3.

"here," Mia said as she went inside the door. It was a deserted hallway with a lot of hotel doors. She went to the last one that stated in 3114. She looked at the keys before nodding at me.

"in here," she said before unlocked the door and went inside. I went inside as well before she stopped me from touching anything.

"you are not in our system. They will know if anybody outside of the organization came into their rooms. You need to wear gloves," she said as she was handing me the latex gloves.

"really?" I asked her. She urged me to wear before I sighed and wore it like a forensics lab scientist.

"Now, isn't that better?" She teased me as I glared at her.

"Shut up," I said as we were looking into a very normal hotel room. She laughed at me before I walked around the room.

"looks fine to me," I said as I was searching for a particular spot that was not usual.

"you wish. You would never know if they sent it in code or anagram, now would you?" She asked me. I looked at her before arching my eyebrow.

"meaning?" I asked. She sighed before walking behind me and took something out under the mattress.

"like that was usual," I said as I went to her side. I helped her to tear the mattress and loads of guns were flooding out of the mattress.

"I've seen worse," I said as I was unamused by the guns.

"not these. These were just a decoy. What's really important is," she said as she was taking out a glowing blue liquid that was hiding under the Dragunov, "this is what caused us so much to make the effort," Mia said as she put it into a special vial that keeps the glow out of the sight.

"what was that?" I asked her as she was getting rid of the guns under the mattress.

"that, my friend, is a bioweapon that can kill people in 1000 mile radius," she said uneasily.

"no wonder everything that we tried to keep tabs were loosing. The trace cannot be found, right?" I asked as I looked at her for confirmation.

"Unfortunately, yes, they are," she said grimly.

"now, they are planning to use the chemical weapon on the ministers meeting tonight, at this hotel. It was between the US and Croatia. I, unfortunately, was assigned to go to this meeting," Mia said as she was looking at me hopelessly.

"WHAT?!! Are you telling me that you will be willing to kill them after the truth about the organization? What are you? Stupid? Mia, you need to stop from going back to the organization," I said as I was walking toward her. Then something was being stung on my back as I was freezing on my feet before I stumbled to the ground.

"Good thing I brought taser," a voice from behind as he walked over me. It was the guy that was with Mia at the party. I groaned as I looked at them both. Mia was being hugged by Marco as he was talking to her.

"good thing you alerted us, Mia. This Interpol detective cannot do a thing without his backup," he said as he was clapping his hands.

"I met you outside," he said before walking over me again. I groaned as I looked at Mia. My vision was almost out.

"Mia, you don't have to do this," I said as I looked at Mia who was walking over me as well.

"Yes, I need to, Liam, even though I don't want to," she said before my body gave out to stay awake.

Mia Duncan's POV

"Well, that's a good job, Duncan," a familiar voice was coming into the room. I looked up from Liam's unmoved body as he was breathing slowly. My heart ached to kill all those guys in front of me but I need to bid more time to get out of this mess.

"you know I would not betray the organization," I said grimaced. The older guy was just laughing at me as he walked to my side. I tried to get away from him but it was impossible.

"You did the right thing. Your uncle would be proud," he said as he looked at me.

"I know he would, I was talking to him," I said before brushing him off me. I went outside the room as my uncle was shouting at his henchmen to take Liam to the warehouse. I was running away from the hotel, from the world, from everything. I don't know what to do but one thing I would always go back to was running away from my problems.

I punched the elevator and it dinged. I went inside as I punched the lobby before the door closing in.

"Mia!" Marco was calling after me but the door closed just in time for him to stay outside, watching me as the tears of my eyes were rolling down my cheeks.
