Xi Shen chuckled at his little sister’s reaction and he braised himself so he wouldn’t fall back from her suddenly tackling him.
While hugging her, Xi Shen smiled and said, “I just now return, Ling’er.”
Raising her head from her brother’s chest, the little girl name Li Ling sat down on Xi Shen’s crossed legs and comfortably laid back her head on his chest.
Seeing this, Xi Shen teasingly said, “Ling’er, don’t you think you're a bit too old to be sitting in your older brother’s lap?”
Li Ling flash a cute smile as she tilted her head up to look at Xi Shen and said, “Ling’er is only eight! I have two more years left before you are allowed to tell me that!”
Xi Shen only smiled and shook his head at her statement. He then raised his hands and pinch her cheeks, but in protest, she started swatting away his hands.
Lady Ying, who was playing the zither, watch this scene with a smile on her face. She had even chuckled at Li Ling’s comment.
After sufficiently pinching his little sister's chubby cheeks red, Xi Shen looked up at his mother and said, “Mother, this unfilial son has come home.”
However, after saying that Xi Shen saw the smile on his mother’s face fall before she snorted, and then changed the song she was playing to a specific song.
Hearing this song, Xi Shen couldn’t help but smile helplessly, however, Li Ling suddenly perked up and she tilted her head to look at Xi Shen expectantly.
Hearing the song closing in on a specific note, and seeing his mother’s expression, Xi Shen sighed before he open his mouth and started to sing.
And rather unexpectedly, his voice, from its pitch to its tone was completely perfect!
His voice sounded like heavenly celestial bells were chiming in perfect harmony.
This was also another feature of Xi Shen’s Heavenly Physique, it made him born with a rare talent called perfect pitch. This is basically when someone can identify any musical note after hearing only once and even replicate its sound, giving them the ability to always sing on key, absolute pitch.
His mother, being the musical talent she was, had figured this out as soon as Xi Shen could talk and had made Xi Shen take up singing as well as instrument lessons, with her being his tutor.
Xi Shen had always felt slightly embarrassed about this unique feature of his voice and his mother would use this against him when she was displeased with him.
Though this time Xi Shen didn't mind since this was a good way to show his mother what he had been up to in the Celestial Academy.
Like a son who wanted his mother to praise him for a drawing they’d done, Xi Shen cast the Soul Illusion Art carefully while sending out his disguised Soul Sense into the surroundings.
Before long, colorful illusory flowers of all colors appeared in this portion of the courtyard.
When Xi Shen’s mother saw this her eyes lit up in surprise as she looked at Xi Shen.
‘I had heard the news of him not being able to cultivate, so I had decided to send him a letter to have him come home so I could convince him to try becoming a Soul Cultivator, but I had never expected him to become one without me asking. I guess my Shen’er isn’t like those fools who think Soul Cultivation is useless.’
As Lady Ying thought that, her eyes turned into crescent moons as she gave Xi Shen a warm smile.
Xi Shen upon seeing this had his heart overcome with joy that he had managed to impress his mother.
This was one of the few times he wasn’t trying to act like a little kid. He genuinely felt love for his mother in this life and was glad that he could feel this way again.
He didn’t know how he came to reincarnate into this Era with his memories of his past life intact, or if his soul was transferred here, but he was happy that he could feel familial love once again. No! he was happy that he could even feel emotions again since the Heaven’s had sealed them in his past life.
Not wanting to have these thoughts ruin the moment, Xi Shen chose to bury them in his heart once again and focused on singing the song.
The song itself was similarly a renowned piece like the -Falling White Snow-, called The Lonely Willow Leaf. It was his mother’s favorite song with Falling White Snow, and from its name, you could tell it was a very emotional song with lyrics that tells of a maiden living a life of loneliness while waiting for the person she loves.
Xi Shen didn’t know if his mother liked the song so much because she felt the same towards his father but, he rather not ask.
His father, although from Xi Shen’s perception wasn’t cruel or malicious, he was very secretive and somewhat detached.
He would always wear simple ragged clothing and would stay in seclusion for months on end, leaving the continent to be ruled by the Queen.
Only now and again would he appear, like when Xi Shen was taking the Celestial Academy test.
At that time when Fu Wei had brought him to see his father, after not seeing him for a year or two he was completely taken aback.
Xi Shen was surprised because the Laws that were swirling around his father were that of the Incorporeal Laws of Sound! Meaning his father had chosen to comprehend the Sound Dao!
His mother had also chosen to comprehend the Sound Dao as her main Dao since she was a Soul Cultivator and Qi Cultivator at the Soul Transformation, from the Divine Star Institute.
Xi Shen had read about the Celestial Star Diagram before, and he knew that only the Li Clan Royal Family trained in this cultivation method.
That was one of the reasons why his father had taken his mother as a concubine when she had become the Saintess, so the technique could remain in the Li Clan.
But what Xi Shen found weird about this cultivation method was that it was completely different from any other cultivation method he had seen before.
And it wasn’t about the rank of it or how much stronger it was, but simple from how advanced and extremely profound it was from the ones he’d seen.
It wasn’t actually about cultivating a specific Elemental Qi to breakthrough but rather using the comprehension of a Dao Law to do so.
This technique was forcefully combining something as intangible as comprehension, with something physical like someone’s cultivation base.
Xi Shen had tried to study it more and had even tried to steal the original piece of parchment it was inscribed on, but for the first time his father was the one that showed up and stopped him.
That was when those weird implementations were set in place to prevent Xi Shen from successfully going about his stealing escapades, instead of the Emperor punishing him like most people thought he would do.
Sadly for Xi Shen when did managed to enter again, that parchment was gone.
Only the successive generation of Emperor could cultivate it as well as the Saint or Saintess of the Divine Star Academy.
Xi Shen had asked his mother to explain to him how the technique actually works, but she even refused to acknowledge that he had even asked the question.
Xi Shen didn’t want to ask Fu Wei about it since he would probably refuse to tell him even if he could. As the Crown Prince and future Emperor, he was being groomed by their father to take the throne ever since he was born and cultivating that Divine Star Diagram was necessary for all successors.
Xi Shen didn’t know what technique that was, but the closes he had been to try replicating something like that was the Dao Foundation he created. And even then it was because he glimpsed that technique for a bit that gave him the idea to combine Law Comprehension with a dantian.
But the technique was much more sophisticated than that, it actually transformed Dao Law comprehension into actual power that increases a person’s physical cultivation.
Xi Shen didn't know who the Li Clan founder was or how he could create such a technique, but he guessed that he was no ordinary cultivator for creating such a mystical technique that combine Dao Law comprehension with Spiritual Qi cultivation. Though the thing being cultivated isn’t a type of Qi but Dao comprehension.
