There were many well-known Rogue organizations in Azeroth, for example, Ravenholdt, the Syndicate, the Defias Brotherhood…
SI:7!
SI:7 was not the most powerful Rogue organization. It did not have the most members, was not the oldest organization, and was not even the most reputable one, but it was definitely the most effective and the most capable Rogue organization.
SI:7 was also known as the Stormwind Assassins. It was established and led by Stormwind City, and specially formed to carry out secret missions that were not achievable through legal means. For instance, assassinating nobles, eavesdropping on war plans, and various other missions.
The organization that had roughly 2500 members and had infiltrated every corner of Stormwind City’s sphere of influence. Wherever there was a group of people, there was definitely an Assassin from SI:7.
Mathias Shaw was the current leader.
SI:7 viewed themselves as a hand grasped around a knife, dividing the organization into five branches.
Mathias Shaw and the other leaders made the Thumb as they were in charge of the management and leadership.
The leadership consisted of about 30 experienced Rogues, who were in charge of making major decisions, and managing the other four Fingers by leading, training, taking reports, and even running the books and making sure salaries were distributed.
The next two Fingers of the hand were made up of the highest-level members, which consisted of roughly 500 Thieves each.
The First Finger, the highest level an assassin could reach before leaving one’s life behind to become a leader in the Thumb, would be dedicated to assassinations, their targets being anyone from rival military leaders to corrupt Priests.
The Second Finger was committed to material “acquisitions”, either retrieving a stolen item to return to its rightful owner, or taking a particularly powerful item from a politician who could not be killed outright.
The 500 or so Rogues who made up the Third Finger were experts in espionage, often cooperating with the Thieves from the First and Second Finger to gather information, read and remember scrolls instead of stealing them, and to serve as lookouts and diversions while the others carried out their missions.
The Fourth Finger made up the largest but the lowest level. The 1,000 Rogues were the jacks of all trades – they usually managed things like burying victims, hiding corpses, as well as establishing alibis. Their job was to make sure that the Stormwind Assassins’ identities were not discovered, and they were also in charge of recruitment.
Being able to lead a group of Assassins with 2500 members under his command, directly participating in huge events that were unknown to other people, giving countless assassination orders to kill people who were hard to kill or from other intelligent Races, Mathias Shaw was definitely one of the real members of Stormwind City’s high management.
Sean believed that a person like him could definitely send anyone to Anduin, and could also bring anyone to Theramore to meet with Jaina.
What relationship did VanCleef and Mathias share?
Rick mentioned, “VanCleef was trained by SI:7 for many years, so he’s known Mathias Shaw since they were young. They had the same mentor, Wolfson Fullmore, the most powerful Assassin in SI:7.”
Okay, Sean was completely unfamiliar with the name, but the name was definitely one that resounded in the ears of every SI:7 member, as well as the real members of Stormwind City’s high management.
The mighty Assassin was truly the number one master in SI:7. He was a fearsome Rogue master, a Grandmaster Assassin, a Grandmaster Thief, a Grandmaster Warrior…
Wolfson Fullmore, the aged elder, had always been guiding and grooming Mathias Shaw. Mathias owed all his achievements to him.
Okay, Wolfson’s name could be forgotten for the time being because he would not appear yet, but he would show up in the future.
All in all, after finding out about the relationship between VanCleef and Mathias, Sean thought about the possibility carefully.
Yes, there was hope!
“Since there’s hope, let’s give it a shot! But before this, I must talk with Old Gryan,” Sean said.
At Sentinel Hill, Sean noticed that the whole area was also under construction. The laborers were not soldiers from Sentinel Hill, but Adventurers who had been recruited.
The original Sentinel Hill only had walls around, a simple stone-made Town Hall, an old Barracks, and a few short Arrow Towers. Those were all it had, and it only provided 5 Defense points.
On the contrary, the new Sentinel Hill started taking the form of a military base after the laborers completed the reinforcements.
The walls became studier and taller, a gate was being set up, the number of Arrow Towers increased from 2 to 4, the Barracks was being renovated and expanded, the Town Hall was under construction, and all kinds of other Facilities were beginning to take form.
Hundreds of elite soldiers, who were fully armored, patrolled Sentinel Hill’s periphery.
Not far away, a certain soldier who had a captain’s rank, was training a bunch of new recruits. The new soldiers were clearly dressed differently as they had rugged clothes and broken longswords, making it obvious that they were newly recruited.
“F*ck, Old Gryan, what’s going on? You sent your soldiers to fix my Mage Tower, but recruit laborers to rebuild Sentinel Hill? What’s with that bunch of new soldiers? Are you starting to recruit again?” Sean squeezed his boar’s belly with his legs, then hopped off in front of Old Gryan.
Old Gryan stood in front of the Town Hall. He wore a casual outfit and was not carrying the Truesilver Champion, which made him look more like a rich man than a heneral…
Okay, he had a lot of money now, so he was considered a rich man.
Upon seeing Sean’s arrival, Old Gryan laughed. “Haha, Sean, don’t you understand? Do I look like I’m hiring laborers? These are all newly recruited soldiers! Hehe, I’m rich now, so shouldn’t I be recruiting as many new soldiers as I can? Am I supposed to count on the 300 men under my command to go against the Defias Brotherhood? Hehe!”
Sean thought to himself, ‘That’s true. Even if you sent people to kill VanCleef, you can’t destroy the Defias Brotherhood, and they’ll only go into the dark, which will make it harder for you to go against them in the future. The recruitment of new soldiers is imperative.
‘But there’s an issue…’
Sean asked as he was confused, “Since you’re planning to rebuild Sentinel Hill, and it’s obvious that the workload is obviously higher than what’s needed for my Mage Tower, why did you send your soldiers to me? Isn’t it going to delay you?”
Old Gryan giggled. “It won’t, it won’t! Hehe, don’t you know how close we are? We swore to live or die together, and we’re the best of friends despite our age difference! Who should I be helping if not you?”
Sean sneered. “Stop it! Do you think that I don’t know who you are? Will you do something that won’t benefit you? Tell me, why exactly did you do that?”
Old Gryan’s face reddened. He gestured to Sean to get closer to him before whispering, “The soldiers that I sent you were mostly old and weak, their work efficiency is low, and they can’t do things well, so I’m not going to let them rebuild Sentinel Hill. I sent them to you because… I can earn a large sum of money, hahaha!”
