Chapter 102 – Midnight Rendezvous

Everyday, there was a certain time where the date would change and usher in the next day of our monotonous lives.

Usually, people would be asleep at this time in order to get ready for the next day.

However, there would always be a small group of people that preferred to stay up at night.

Throughout the demon hours, they were the people that preferred the calm time of night rather than the hectic daytime.

Takei Tanaka was most definitely one of these people.

At this late hour, he was propped up against the top of his bed frame while there was some anime playing on his television.

With nothing much to do, Takei was just brainlessly staring at the television.

He had already watched this anime, but he just felt like putting something on in order to think about some stuff inside his head.

As he was zoning out and focusing onto nothing, his phone unusually buzzed with a notification at this late hour.

"Who could be texting this late..."

Mumbling to himself, Takei picked up his phone with an interested expression.

What he found was, surprisingly, a text from Akari who was oddly awake at this time.

She usually went to bed no later than 10 in the evening, so it was really rare for her to text him at midnight.

"Are you still awake?"

It seemed that she was looking for someone to talk to, since Akari was questioning his current state of consciousness.

Takei replied to her and answered her with an affirmative yes.

In response to his positive answer, Akari asked something quite unusual for her typical behavior.

"Can we go somewhere for a bit? I'm having trouble sleeping."

Even though it was a school night, Akari wanted to go out at the very second that the date changed.

Although Takei disagreed with this, he knew that Akari was always a diligent student, so it wouldn't hurt to cut loose every once in a while.

Messaging her back with an affirmation, Takei threw on a jacket and shoes real quick and left the house.

He walked over to Akari's house and waited patiently outside.

A few moments later, Akari exited the house in some casual wear that was perfect for a midnight rendezvous.

She was wearing thin leggings with an oversized hoodie (that belonged to Takei), which made her look extremely adorable and incited a certain feeling inside Takei which made him want to protect her.

"I'm sorry for calling you out so late, but I really missed you..."

With his girlfriend saying something cute of this caliber, Takei struggled to find a correct response.

"It's okay, I was up anyways."

Deciding to just stick with his nonchalant attitude, Takei brushed aside her comment in order to retain his sanity.

"Fufufu, you're really cute when you're embarrassed."

"Please don't call me that."

Going through the usual manner of flirting and bantering, Takei and Akari walked towards their destination with a refreshed smile on their faces.

Whether it was due to the thrill of a late night adventure or the companionship with another person, they both enjoyed the current situation to its fullest.

"I heard some news about a new coffee shop that's open 24/7 from some of the girls in my class." Akari explained. "Apparently, they sell many other drinks such as energy drinks, teas, and lemonades as well.

The sound of energy drinks interested Takei, but he needed to reign his interest back in due to the fact that it was a school night.

"That sounds great, but let's hope that it's not too expensive..."

Checking his wallet, Takei noticed that it was noticeably lighter than it usually was.

Do I need to get a part-time job in order to pay for all of these adventures?

Their school allowed for part-time jobs for all students, but they would intervene if the student's grades began to drop as a result.

Since Takei was ranked in the top ten academically, the teachers would most likely not bat an eye towards him getting a job due to his high rank.

Although, that would mean that he would have to spend less time with Akari.

Yeah, let's save that for the future. She's my biggest priority right now.

Without a shred of hesitation, Takei mentally declared that Akari's happiness was the best thing he could ever ask for.

After a few minutes of walking, they finally arrived at the coffee shop that was open all day and week.

They walked up to the window and saw that there was only one employee currently working right now.

It wasn't a surprise, since not a lot of people would want a caffeinated drink at this hour.

Looking over the menu, Takei decided to choose some strawberry lemonade.

It seemed that Akari had finished as well, since she was looking at him with glittering eyes.

A smile crept up on Takei's face as he once again realized how cute she was.

The employee waiting at the window could only sigh lightly at the sight of this idiot couple.

Once the both of them broke out of the trance, they each gave their own order.

"Strawberry lemonade."

"Raspberry sweet tea!"

The employee nodded and immediately got to work on making the drinks.

Since there were no other customers at this late hour, the drinks were finished in record time.

They paid for the drinks and brought them back to a nearby table.

Sitting down, Takei could only admire the fine craftsmanship of the drink.

Seeing the effort that was put into making this drink, Takei couldn't waste any more time just staring at it.

Taking a sip of the strawberry lemonade, a soft and sweet flavor travelled from his mouth to down his throat.

For how much money I'm paying, this is one of the best drinks I've ever gotten.

There was an extremely high cost to performance ratio that was being perfectly maintained by this delicious, yet cheap drink.

In front of him, Takei could see Akari enjoying her own drink.

"Mmm, delicious..."

She was mumbling to herself, which made it all the cuter.

Having lost any sense of self-control or restraint, Takei lifted Akari's chin as she was drinking and placed his lips over her lips.

Akari was only surprised for a second, until she closed her eyes and let Takei handle the rest.

Transferring the sweet liquid while also intertwining tongues, Takei was feeling the very definition of eternal bliss.

Once all of the sweet liquid was drained for Akari's mouth, Takei released himself and smiled happily at Akari.

"You were right, it was delicious."

Wearing a devilish grin, Takei teased Akari as she was still recovering from the passionate kiss that they shared.

In response to his teasing, Akari pouted as a result of her losing the mental battle.

"You're a real big meanie sometimes, y'know?"

In the end, they only ended up getting a few hours of sleep before school and ended up looking like zombies the very next day.

Once all of the students saw that both Takei and Akari were dead tired, some very naughty rumors began to spread about them.

However, that would be a story for another time.

Idiot Couple Meter: 46 -> 50%

Well, that's one way of sharing your drink.

Serious-san: Ah, I heard from a friend that this restaurant is a nice and romantic place to eat.

Sugar-san: Isn't this the restaurant where the idiot couple went to and danced at, a few dozen chapters or so ago?

Serious-san: Maybe...

Sugar-san: ...

(Sadly, Sugar-san doesn't know how to dance)
