Chapter 104 – Mortality

Once the final bell signaling the end of school was rung, the usual hustle and bustle of the students could be heard throughout the school as the students raced to their destinations with an impeccable speed.

Whether it be a club, hanging out with their friends, or going home from school; they were all moving with a single goal in mind.

Among these students was a black haired youth who typically didn't end up in these large crowds that formed at the end of school.

He would either leave a bit early before the bell rang, or wait until the crowd subsided in order to leave.

Today, that black haired youth was stuck in the crowd due to some complications.

There was a delay in his science teacher's arrival, so the class ended up lasting longer than intended.

As a result, he failed to leave class early today since there was new material that was being taught.

That teenager, Takei Tanaka, was currently pushing through a crowd of people in order to get to the front of the school.

Akari had texted him to meet at the front entrance of the school because she wanted to go swimsuit shopping with him.

Takei initially was hesitant, since there was a good chance that he might faint if he saw Akari in a bunch of swimsuits.

However, a saddened look from Akari's face was enough to destroy all of his resolve.

As a result, Takei quickly gave up and just followed Akari's request.

He didn't entirely lose though, Akari had planted a small peck on his cheek as a reward for going with her.

With that as motivation, Takei was sure that he could endure the mental strain that would be inevitable from watching the goddess's divine figure.

After a few minutes of pushing through the crowd, Takei finally reached the front gates and saw Akari's beautiful figure.

Even though she was just wearing the normal school uniform, Akari looked even more beautiful every time he saw her.

Takei walked up to her and immediately apologized for his tardiness.

"Sorry about that, the class got held up for a bit."

In response, Akari merely brushed it off.

"It's alright, that happens. Since you're here now, we can finally go shopping!"

Switching gears quickly, Akari pointed towards the direction of the mall in an excited manner.

Feeling grateful for having such an understanding girlfriend, Takei grabbed her hand firmly and began to lead the way to the mall.

With a faint blush evident on her cheeks, Akari shyly smiled and obediently followed the man who shone ever so brightly in her eyes.

Walking at a normal pace, the two enjoyed the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere around them.

It was surely the definition of a rose-colored high school life.

After a few minutes of walking, they finally reached the train station.

Takei let Akari enter first and then sat down next to her on one of the train seats.

"I haven't been on one of these in a while..."

Akari didn't usually take the train at all and only took it when she needed to go somewhere far.

"We should go somewhere far soon, with just us."

Takei told Akari of his true feelings with a passionate expression on his face.

Even though they were going to the beach soon, it was a group event and not the lovey dovey couple event that Takei wished for.

Once Akari heard the truth that was locked inside of his heart, she giggled at his seriousness.

"You know we have the rest of our lives, right? I'll always be by your side, so we can go anywhere whenever we want."

As per usual, Akari did wonders at soothing Takei's troubled heart.

With a calm voice and gentle expression, she reminded Takei of the long lives that they had ahead of them.

Takei had no other choice than to agree with this sentiment because he knew that the Tanaka bloodline consisted of people who lived long lives.

If I remember correctly, my great-grandpa lived until 110-years-old and my great-grandma lived until 112-years-old. Dad really wasn't lying when he said that our bloodline was almost immortal.

Mentally chuckling at his dad's joke inside of his head, Takei rubbed Akari's head as thanks for soothing his anxiety.

"Thank you for reminding me, I don't know what I would become if you weren't here for me."

"A good for nothing?"

"Guh..."

Takei was once again reminded of how he was before he had met Akari.

An empty shell of a person who didn't have any recognizable features or traits... was what he used to be.

After meeting her, Takei had tried extremely hard to improve in as many areas as he possibly could.

He picked up as many hobbies and skills as humanly possible in order to stand next to her.

Eventually, he did succeed in standing side by side with Akari, but he still hasn't reached the limits of his potential yet.

One day, he wished to be someone who could even outdo the goddess.

It was surely an impossible task, but that was what made the task so exciting to advance towards.

Still reeling from Akari's jab, Takei meekly smiled at her.

In response to his weak smile, Akari cheerfully laughed at his meek state.

"It's okay, I prefer it if you're a good-for-nothing person. That's kind of my goal here. I don't want my job to be taken away."

Akari explained her true inner wish for Takei to become someone fully dependent on her.

"So please, go ahead and become a good-for-nothing. I'll take care of you for the rest of your life!"

Hearing Akari's determination, Takei seriously debated if he really should become a good for nothing person.

Using as much brain power as he could, Takei finally came up with an answer after a few moments.

"Well, it's not a bad offer, but I want to spoil you as well. Therefore, I decline."

"Aw, what a shame~"

Even though Takei had refused her offer, Akari didn't sound disheartened at all since she had expected the answer already.

It was no surprise, since the both of them enjoyed spoiling each other silly.

The goddess glanced back at Takei with an expectant expression on her face, and spoke with an enticing tone that caught his attention.

"Fufufu, I'll be waiting for you to spoil me..."
