Chapter 107 – Beach Arrival

One long car ride later, and they were finally at the beach.

Takei looked outside the car window on his left and saw the endless and vast blue ocean that stretched endlessly beyond the horizon.

"It looks like Akari's eyes..."

He mumbled to himself as he compared the beautiful color of the ocean to Akari's deep blue eyes.

Takei turned around to see if Akari had heard him, but it seemed like she didn't since Akari looked at him with a confused expression.

Tilting her head slightly, she looked puzzled as to why Takei was staring at her.

Cute.

After that short interaction between the love struck idiots, Takei noticed that Yuuto had stopped the car and parked it in a suitable place for the kids to get out of.

"Alright kiddos, I'll be back to pick everyone up later!"

Yuuto had a conference meeting that was scheduled soon, so he was in a race against time which was what led him to such an erratic farewell.

After basically kicking everyone out of the car, Yuuto stepped on the gas and left the premises.

Now, it was only the group of seven left who were going to spend this momentous day together.

They had brought all of the beach essentials such as volleyballs, floaties, and foldable chairs in order to enjoy the entire beach experience.

"Now then... what should we do first?"

Since there was a need for a general consensus, Akari asked everyone what they wanted to do.

"Hmm... It's too early to have lunch and the ocean water seems a bit too cold right now..." Eiji explained. "How about we play some volleyball first?"

After listening to his logic, Akari nodded with an expression of understanding on her face.

"I understand. Any objections?"

Looking through the group, it seemed that no one was particularly opposed to the thought.

Once Akari verified that everyone was okay with the idea, she began to set everything into motion.

"Okay, let's set up the teams!"

Since the group had an uneven number of people, Arisa volunteered to be the referee since she wasn't the best in athletic activities.

Therefore, they decided on a 3v3 team format and a first to three scoring system.

The teams would be Takei, Akari, and Ryuto versus Eiji, Helena, and Rikka.

Using random luck of the draw, Arisa chose Akari as the person who would set the ball.

Out of the list of long things that they brought with them, a volleyball net and ball were luckily among them.

The boys quickly set up the net and went back to their respective positions.

Once everyone was in their correct position, Arisa whistled loudly and announced the beginning of the game.

"Game, set, start!"

Immediately after the game started, Akari spiked the ball high into the air.

It was a powerful strike that resulted in the ball going up in a linear fashion and dropping down at an exponential rate.

In other words, it was a perfect hit.

Seeing the ball that was travelling towards them at light speed, Rikka instantly took charge.

"I got it!"

She ran up and jumped into the air in order to try and stop the momentum of the ball as fast as possible.

Luckily for her, she managed to curb the speed of the ball and passed it over to her brother just in the nick of time.

"Beware my true power!"

Yelling a type of chuunibyou phrase, Eiji slammed the ball hard at a 45 degree angle downwards.

"Oh no you don't!"

Having predicted that Eiji would do such a thing, Ryuto positioned himself closer to the net and barely managed to block the ball from hitting the ground.

With that ball once again in the air, Helena ran forward at lightning speed in order to catch the enemy team off guard.

"Good luck on blocking this one!"

Redirecting all of the force in her body to her legs, Helena propelled herself far into the air in order to hit the ball at an odd angle where the enemy team would have trouble blocking it.

"Shit..."

Takei could tell that the ball was heading at an odd angle where neither him or Ryuto could've easily blocked it.

What do I do? The ball's moving too fast for me to be able to react to it in time and Ryuto's not in a good position as well. Is this what they call an unblockable ball?

Takei was on the verge of giving up in face of the hopeless situation, until a miracle happened in front of his very eyes.

Akari bolted forward and slid at a near 180 degree angle, which let her be able to block the previously thought-to-be unblockable ball.

"Takei! It's your turn now!"

Realizing that Akari had set up the ball for him, Takei nodded and aimed for an impossible angle where there was a gap in-between the defenders.

In other words, he had used the same strategy against them.

However this time, it succeeded since there was no goddess on their team to save them.

As soon as the ball touched the ground, Arisa let everyone know that the first game was over.

"Game over! Akari's team wins!"

After the winners of the first game were announced, there was a cacophony of cheering from the winners' side.

It was mostly from Ryuto though, since Takei was too stunned to even realize that they had even won.

Looking over to Akari who was now standing up and fully recovered from her miraculous plan, Takei praised her for her quick thinking.

"It's always in these situations that you manage to do something to save me..."

"Of course? I am your lover, you know? If I couldn't save you, I wouldn't be even remotely close to be able to be your partner."

At such an adorable and romantic line of thought, Takei felt the incoming surge of heat overtake his body which ended up causing his cheeks to inevitably change to a brighter shade of color.

He then walked up to her and placed his hand on the top of her head.

"Well anyways, thank you."

Doing as he usually did, Takei lightly ruffled her hair as a way of showing that he was grateful for her help.

With her eyes squinting slightly and her lips curled up to a lazy smile, it was obvious that Akari was enjoying getting spoiled.

However, not everyone else was quite too satisfied at this scene.

"Geh...

"Idiot couple..."

"Blow up!"

In the end, the two continued what they were doing while also ignoring the rude comments from the peanut gallery.
