Chapter 154 – Chill Night

When they finally got home from the grocery store and the unexpected interview, they were running a bit behind on their schedule.

Initially, the grocery trip was only supposed to last about 30 minutes, but it ended up lasting almost an hour.

While that wasn't too big of a problem in itself, everyone was quite hungry on the walk home, as evident by the light growling of each person's stomach.

"When are we going to be able to eat?" Shiori sadly asked Takei and Akari on the way home.

It had gotten so bad that even Takei had to agree with Shiori's feelings of impatience.

Even when they got home, the food still needed to be prepared and made, which would take an even longer amount of time.

"We'll be able to eat soon," Akari gently patted Shiori's head. "In the meantime, please try your best to be patient."

Returning to the present, Shiori was busily watching something on the TV while Takei was assisting Akari with preparing the food.

Akari was an amazing cook, but there was an encroaching time limit that was not too kind.

That's why Takei was relegated to simple tasks such as cutting and cleaning vegetables, making sure the kitchen isn't messy, and providing Akari with the necessary items to fully exhibit her true power.

"You're improving," Akari gently smiled.

Takei was so busy cutting up the vegetables that he didn't even know that she had been watching him.

Indeed, being Akari's assistant in cooking had helped Takei's cooking skills grow an unprecedented amount.

He wasn't too shabby himself when it came to cooking, but his technical skills in the past were a bit lacking due to a lack of experience.

However, Takei's technical skills got much better due to gaining more experience from helping Akari.

"I guess so," Takei shrugged. "Thanks for the help, sensei."

"Hohoho, tis' no problem my disciple!" Akari said, in a deep tone.

Takei sighed. "Why are you talking like an old man?"

As they both laughed due to the comical nature of their banter, dinner was finished and ready to be plated before they even realized it.

Tonight, the meal would be a simple chicken parmesan dish with vegetables on the side because Akari took into account that Shiori was a growing girl.

Once everyone washed their hands and were seated at the table, the food was ready to be eaten.

""Thanks for the meal!"" All of them were grateful for the food, so they quickly gave their thanks.

Shiori was the first one to dig in since she was starving and looking forward to what Akari was cooking.

After shoving the spoon into her mouth, Shiori's eyes lit up like it was Christmas morning. "Yum! This tastes amazing, big sis!"

"I'm glad you liked it," Akari smiled. "I put a lot of love into it."

"Mm, it's really good!" Shiori affirmed.

Shiori had never tasted Akari's divine cooking before, so this was her first time experiencing such delicious food.

"You've done it again," Takei smirked. "The flavors are dancing in my mouth and are creating a beautiful experience for me."

It wasn't Takei's first rodeo when it came to the goddess's divine cooking, so he was mostly prepared for the delicious tasting food that was out of this world.

God must've given her some overpowered cooking ability... I'm jealous!

Hearing Takei's praise towards her, a faint blush could be seen on Akari's cheeks. "Thanks... I'm always happy to be complimented by you."

"I can always drown you with more compliments, if you want?" Takei replied.

"Please don't, I'll die." Akari resolutely stated.

Why would you die from compliments?

Takei couldn't understand her reasoning, so he just left her be for now.

After dinner was finished up, Shiori wanted to help clean dishes, but Takei stopped her since he believed it should be his task since he was older.

He told Akari to go entertain her until he was done with the dishes, which only took a couple minutes since it was only the three of them eating.

When he returned to the living room, Shiori's mom was already there waiting for Shiori to say her goodbyes.

Takei had most likely been too focused on cleaning to hear Shiori's mom enter through the front door.

"Bye, big sis! Bye, big bro!" Shiori waved. "Today was really fun, so let's play again soon!"

"That sounds fantastic," Akari gave a thumbs-up.

"I'll think of some fun stuff we can do for next time," Takei smiled.

Shiori and her mother left after that brief goodbye, which ended up leaving Takei and Akari with nothing to do.

"Anime?"

"Anime."

Correction, they now had something to do.

It was good that they were taking their time to do the things they wanted, because school would once again start up in a few days.

Now, they would be second years and would be entering a new stage of their lives.
