Chapter 169 – Fortune Teller

On the way home from school after a long day, Takei and Akari noticed an odd stand that was set up on the side of the road.

"Fortune telling...?"

"It looks interesting, I think we should give it a try!"

"Akari, you're a bit spontaneous sometimes. You know that, right?"

"It's one of my best qualities, right right?"

"Yeah, sure..."

"What does that mean?!"

After their little banter session wrapped up, the two of them walked up to the old lady that was running the stand.

Takei was a bit apprehensive at first since the stand was a bit shady, but Akari's insistence wore down his resolve.

He took a glance at the prices and found out that they were completely dirt cheap.

Even though the price for a fortune telling was extremely low, there was no line of people waiting to get their fortune told unlike other places.

This is a bit sketchy, but this is a safe neighborhood. I guess it's safe enough then? I'll be sure to watch out for any scammers.

When they approached, the old lady welcomed them with open arms. "Oh, hello there! Are you two interested in having your fortunes told?"

"Ah, yeah. Here's the fee for both of us," Takei said, as he handed the money over.

"Thank you," the old lady said. "What would you like to be told then?"

"Something about romance!" Akari shouted, in excitement. "Tell us about our relationship in the future."

"Well well, I'm glad you're excited," the old lady smiled. "Please sit down and we'll begin."

Doing as instructed, Takei and Akari sat down on the two chairs that were set opposite of the fortune teller.

"Please set your hands on the table and show me your palms," the old lady instructed. "This is how I will read your futures."

Ah, so it's one of these infamous palm-reading techniques. I thought it was going to be some mumbo jumbo with a crystal ball, but color me surprised.

The fortune teller then intently focused on the lines on each of their palms.

Takei didn't understand how the future could be told from simply looking at lines on someone's palm, but he wasn't the specialist in fortune telling here so he kept his mouth shut.

"Hmm... Oh? Ah, this is interesting," the fortune teller nodded. "Alright, I'm finished."

The old lady let go of their hands and seemed to ponder about something before returning to her normal expression.

"Well? What did you see?" Akari anxiously asked.

The fortune teller felt bad about making Akari wait, so she gently smiled and reassured the eagerly awaiting goddess. "Ah, you two have a good relationship. There will be some minor obstacles in the future, but nothing too serious. I see the possibility of many kids in the future and you two living a comfortable life. Your relationship will blossom into something beautiful, I promise."

Akari was extremely happy to hear the positive result of their fortune telling, which was the same reaction that Takei had.

He didn't know if fortune telling could be trusted, but he was happy that they had gotten a good result.

However, Takei was getting a little bit ahead of himself.

"One thing to note though, the boy's list of friends will continue to be skewed towards the female gender," the fortune teller added. "I'd say about a 9:1 ratio of female to male friends."

"Hoh? Is that so?" A murderous aura appeared around Akari as a ticked-off expression appeared on her face.

"I haven't even done anything yet!" Takei complained.

The two went home after and Takei received a premature scolding for something that had yet to even happen.

"Haaah... I guess it's time for bed," Takei yawned. "It's getting a bit late."

He was a bit tired from the intense scolding and warnings he had received from Akari, so Takei was ready to hit the hay earlier than he normally would.

"Can't really blame her though when I only have two guy friends and several girl friends."

Takei himself admitted to having a skewed gender ratio of friends, but it's not like he actively sought out one gender over the other.

"Whatever... it's time to sleep," Takei said, as he dived into his bed. "I hope Akari makes a nice big omelet for tomorrow's breakfast, that would be great."

With those last couple words, Takei fell into a deep slumber.

"...ap!"

Hm? Is someone calling me?

"Pap...!"

I don't remember my name starting with pap? Surely this person isn't calling for me.

"Papa! Wake up!"

Opening his eyes for the first time, Takei sat up from his bed and saw a little girl on the side of his bed that was insistently shaking him.

"Mou... Papa took a long time to wake up!"

Who is this little girl right here? She has a similar hair color to Akari...

"Who's Papa?" Takei asked.

The little girl giggled and pointed towards him. "That's you silly! You're Papa!"

"What...?" He muttered.

Takei stood up frantically and looked at the full body mirror in his room.

The person that stared back at him was him, but also not him at the same time.

To be more specific, Takei could tell it was him but just a bit older with some more facial hair.

As he was inspecting himself in the mirror, the door to the room opened. "Marie, did you wake Papa up yet?"

"I did, but Papa is acting weird..." Marie pouted.

"Hey Papa, are you okay?" The familiar voice asked Takei.

Hearing that familiar voice, Takei turned around and saw Akari.

Not the one he was used to seeing, but an older Akari.

I'm dreaming, right?
