Chapter 204 – Summer Festival

Summer was fast approaching as evident by the sweltering heat that appeared out of nowhere. Going outside was now a chore due to the annoyingly hot weather that plagued the country.

Takei had received a text earlier in the morning about the upcoming summer festival from his mom. Even though she was currently overseas, it seemed that Flora still remembered about the annual summer festival.

"You better get your own yukata this year and not wear some old clothes to the summer festival! Make sure you make Akari happy~"

This was the exact text that Flora sent Takei to remind him. Although she reminded him to go out and get a yukata, Takei felt that the main point of the message was to take care of Akari.

"I would've done it without her asking," Takei muttered to himself.

He was currently at a yukata fitting shop with a new friend that he had recently made.

"There are a lot of different colors and variations... Isn't buying a yukata a little bit too hard?"

Haruto Renzaki was the person who went with Takei to this yukata shop. He needed a yukata for the summer festival as well since he was invited by two different people.

"How did you end up getting invited by two different girls?" Takei asked. "Aren't you too much of a playboy?"

"No, no, no. I think you have it mistaken. They're just both my childhood friends, so I'm not a playboy. Please believe me," Haruto clapped his hands together and begged.

"Two childhood friends? And they're both girls?" Takei facepalmed. "You lucky son of a..."

While they bantered, the shop clerk came back with two different yukatas that were specially made for each of them.

"Your yukatas are ready!"

Although both of them chose simplistic designs for their yukatas, the colors chosen were completely different.

Takei went with a navy-blue yukata with a light blue obi, while Haruto went with a charcoal-gray yukata and a normal gray obi.

It took them quite a while to get measured and fitted since it was their first time getting new yukatas, but it was surely worth the time.

"Oh, you look pretty good."

"You as well."

Takei and Haruto complimented each other when they got out of the dressing room. Both of them had done their hair and gotten ready earlier to prepare for the arrival of their yukatas.

They were both naturally introverted people, so their compliments stayed short and brief.

Once they paid for the yukatas, the two left the shop and decided to part ways here.

"Shizu said she prepared a little something for me at home so I gotta bounce," Haruto said.

Takei nodded in agreement. "I have some plans with Akari after this anyways, so this is perfect."

Takei fist-bumped Haruto and waved goodbye to him as they left.

Now that he had his yukata ready for the summer festival, Takei headed home for a certain surprise that Akari was setting up for him.

He wasn't told exactly what the surprise was, but his sister looked at him with a deadpan expression when he left the house earlier.

Takei walked the short distance from the yukata shop to his house and arrived not too long after he had parted from Haruto.

Let's see what type of surprise is waiting for me at home!

Slowly turning the knob to the front door, Takei cautiously opened the door to his house.

"Ah, you're back!"

He heard Akari's voice from the other side of the door. Finally resolving himself to see what was behind the door, Takei entered the house and saw...

"Meow~ Welcome back, Master!"

A cat girl stood at the doorway with a happy yet anxious expression on her face.

Akari was wearing some casual clothes, albeit with some changes. She now had a fluffy tail, cat paws, and a pair of fluffy white cat ears. Takei's girlfriend now looked like a real bonafide cat girl.

"What's this?" Takei asked, confused.

Although he was pretty happy about being greeted by a cat girl calling him master, Takei knew that Akari got embarrassed easily. He didn't want to push her too much.

"Nya~ It's your reward for being such a good boyfriend," Akari purred.

She happily skipped over to where Takei was and motioned him to lower his head a bit. Doing as instructed, Takei lowered his head just a tiny bit.

Once his head was a suitable height, Akari rubbed his head with her fluffy paws. "How is it? Nya~"

"Very fluffy and nice."

Takei tried to respond with as much composure as possible, but it was getting harder and harder seeing how cute Akari was.

"Kyaaa!"

The reason why Akari screamed was due to Takei grabbing her tail out of nowhere. He just couldn't resist the cuteness of the whole cosplay, so he decided to treat her just like a cat.

"Yosh yosh, good kitty. You're the best kitty ever!" Takei said as he gently rubbed her tail and fluffy ears.

Maybe I went a little bit too overboard with the cosplay, Akari thought.

She wanted to spoil Takei a lot today since he had been working really hard, but she didn't think he would be this addicted to fluffiness.

Airi had told Akari about Takei's obsession with fluffy and cute things, so Akari thought that there was no better option than dressing up as a cat for him.

"Meow~ I love you too~"

Akari purred when Takei rubbed underneath her chin just like he would do to any other cat. She really liked the feel of her lover's touch, so she would snuggle up to him whenever he touched her to beg for more.

Before she knew it, Akari felt a light tap on her cheek. It was a bit wet and sudden, but she instinctively knew exactly what it was.

A k-kiss?!

Takei passionately looked at her with a fiery look in his eyes and was about to....

"Ahem."

Both Takei and Akari creakily turned their heads to the other room where Airi was staring at them with half-dead fish eyes.

"..."

The silence was too overwhelmingly strong.
