"Ouch..."
"Are you okay?"
As they were walking to a certain location to see the fireworks, Akari crouched down and winced in pain. Takei was scared that something had happened to her, so he was frantically checking her condition.
"What happened?!"
"Are you hurt?!"
"We're going to the hospital right now."
Such lines rapidly came out of Takei's mouth as he observed Akari's condition, but she just sighed and shook her head.
"You're such a worrywart when it comes to me..."
Although Akari sighed as if she was exasperated, she had a ridiculously wide grin on her face that wouldn't seem to go away no matter what she would do. Takei saw that grin and instantly felt relieved by the sight of it.
"Judging how you can smile so relaxedly, you probably aren't too hurt huh?"
"Just a little bit. I should be fine though," Akari said with a relaxed smile on her face to assuage Takei's fears.
Takei knew better than to take her words at a surface level though, he looked around her foot and noticed that a rash was beginning to form. It was most likely stemming from the tight strap on the sandals that she was wearing, but there was a bigger problem at hand.
"Your sandal strap broke?" Takei gasped.
On one foot, Akari was about to get a rash from the tight strap on the sandal that was digging into her foot. On the other foot, the sandal strap seemed to have broken which resulted in Akari verbally expressing her displeasure.
"Ahaha, I'm sorry. I didn't want to burden you and make the festival less fun, so I kept quiet about it since I knew you were going to be worried."
Akari apologized to him with a saddened expression that suggested that she was blaming herself for putting a damper on the fun festival. Takei never ever wanted to see such a sad expression on her face, so he resolved himself to once again place a smile on her face.
Takei went in front of Akari and crouched down. "Here, get on."
"Eh?"
"Get on my back please."
Takei hurriedly motioned for Akari to hop on his back so he could carry her. If she couldn't walk comfortably, then he was going to make sure that she saw the fireworks no matter what.
"We don't have to go see the fireworks in the same area as everyone else, so do you want to go back to my house? We can see it from my room perfectly so there'll be no problems."
"R-Really? I don't want to burden you anymore than I already have..." Akari worriedly asked.
"It's okay. If I'm not able to see the fireworks with you, then there's no point in watching them at all," Takei explained. "There's also a lot of people here this year, so why don't we go home and relax?"
Akari really wanted to see the fireworks with Takei, but her problem with the sandals was going to cause them more problems due to Takei having to carry her around on his back. She didn't realize it at first, but Takei's room that was on the second floor had a perfect view of the entire shrine, which meant that they could watch the fireworks from the comfort of his room.
"Mhm, let's go home."
"Alright, I'll text everyone that we're going to be heading home early," Takei said. "We can go as soon as you hop on my back."
"Are you strong enough to carry me now?" Akari giggled as she remembered how weak he had been in the past.
"Of course I am. I'm not a slacker when it comes to working hard for my loved ones."
Takei had indeed not been slacking on his training to get stronger. Everyday, he worked tirelessly using Ryuto's training regimen to get stronger and be more nimble. After many weeks of working out everyday, Takei had finally gotten to a point in his journey that he could be proud of.
"Hm, is that so?" Akari said with an impish smile as she hopped on Takei's back and pushed her chest onto him. "Am I heavy?"
"Not you particularly, but some things are indeed heavy..." Takei murmured.
"I'll pretend I didn't hear that."
Luckily for Takei, his house was not too far from where the festival was being held. In a short time span of about 20 minutes, he managed to arrive back home with Akari on his back. Looking at his face, you could tell that it was no hassle to carry Akari all the way from the festival to his house. There was not a single bead of sweat on his face at all.
Once the two got home, they headed up to Takei's room and got comfy on his bed. Airi wasn't home at the moment because she went out with Mahiro to the festival as well, so the two of them were alone.
"The fireworks should be going off any minute now," Takei said as he glanced at the clock on his wall.
Akari nodded and leaned her head on Takei's shoulder. "Can I ask you a question?"
"Yeah, what's up?"
"Did you ever think we would end up like this?"
"..."
Takei wanted to answer yes as fast as possible, but he knew that he would be lying to himself and Akari if he did. The truth of the matter was that Takei believed that there was too much of a difference in the social hierarchy between him and Akari at first. However, just because there's a large distance doesn't mean that the distance can't be crossed.
"No, I didn't think that we would ever be able to end up like this. In the first place, we were polar opposites so there should've been no contact between us..."
Takei began saying depressing things that made Akari want to speak up and deny them, but he hushed her with his determined expression and radiant smile.
"...There should've been no contact between us, but such a troublesome girl came up to me and wanted to become friends. Do you really think that I could say no to such a beauty?"
"Of course not."
"That's right. It all started from there and spiraled into something that even I couldn't imagine happening. For you to approach such an unsociable person like me, all I want to say is... thank you."
Ever since Takei had met Akari, he had nothing but pleasant memories and happy days. There was not a single moment that he had regretted ever meeting her.
"I should be saying that to you.." Akari pouted. "You've brought so much happiness into my life, so... thank you."
The two got closer and closer until their breaths were directly hitting each other's face. Both parties had a passionate face that seemed to want something more from the current situation.
"Akari..."
"Takei..."
They leaned in further and wrapped each other in the other's embrace. With both of them hugging, the fiery passion inside them only got hotter and hotter. The next moment, Takei was towering over Akari as she laid down on the bed.
"Akari... Can I?"
"Fufufu, of course you can. You've been making such a cute girl wait for so long after all."
"I'm really sorry about that."
After that small exchange, the fireworks finally began to go off. The beautiful sight that was just outside Takei's window was a great view to have, but he preferred the current sight of Akari on his bed much more.
"Akari, I'm going to start."
"Please be gentle."
"Of course."
As the busy night of the summer festival came to a close, two flowers that were in full bloom finally connected their bodies and consummated their eternal love.
