142 Landed in trouble

Wei stared hard at him, "you are getting a divorce? Does Mei Zhen even have a clue about it? Because her actions indicate that she intends to hold onto you and this marriage."

"Like you said, it is my internal matter and I will sort it out at my end. Let's go home now. Jia Li would be waiting," Tang turned to go.

"I won't give up on her," he heard Wei speak up from behind him.

Tang didn't react to this declaration from Wei and kept on walking.

"You looked pale this morning. Are you sure you don't need another visit to your favourite place, the hospital," Tang teased Jia Li when she opened the door to them.

She gave him a glare but didn't say anything.

"Maybe you guys don't realise it but you both are in your late twenties and not toddler years. When would you grow up?" Chu spoke up, laughter lacing her words.

"Did you both go to the institute together?" Jia Li addressed the question to Wei, ignoring Chu's teasing.

At his hesitation, Tang spoke up, "I didn't know that everything that goes around in Moganshan needs to be reported to you. Since when are you the big boss of this area?"

This time she didn't hold back and gave him a shove in the chest.

"Stop bullying me. Take a good look at yourself and you would know who needs the medical care more. And yes, I am the big boss here!!" she said, hands on her hips.

Tang was happy to get a reaction out of her since that had been his aim anyways.

"Be ready at sharp 7 in the morning. We leave for Shanghai," he told her.

Before she could reply, Wei spoke up, "Jia Li would be travelling with me. We would need to visit the institute in the morning once before leaving. So you guys should carry on."

Sensing another round of arguments coming up, Jia Li turned to look at Chu in mute appeal.

Chu hooked her arm through her brother's and said, "I think we should head back to the hotel now and start packing up. Let's all meet once we reach Shanghai, hmm?"

Tang looked like that he wanted to argue but restrained himself at the last. He still had Mei Zhen to deal with, anyways.

"I know you don't want to go to Shanghai. I know you want to be left alone for a while, brooding with your thoughts and the quiet trails of Moganshan. But, for my peace of mind, just till the bandages don't come off, just till Fu isn't transferred to another place…please come to Shanghai, for me. Please?" Wei uttered these words the minute, Tang and others left.

Jia Li couldn't refuse such a request. She sighed and nodded.

"I am going to pack for a couple of days, no more," she said to him and went to her room.

Wei pumped a victory fist in the air after she had walked away.

Next morning

The atmosphere in the car was so thick and laden with barbs that one could literally cut through it. Since the time that they had left for Shanghai, Tang had been mercilessly goading Mei Zhen. His indirect words were making an already guilty Mei Zhen, feel more and more uncomfortable.

She had promised to get Cheng Fu the best legal help available on the promise that he would never reveal the fact that she was the one who had come to him with the proposal to remove Jia Li from Tang's path. She knew that if Tang got to know this, he wouldn't care whether Mei Zhen knew the actual details of what Fu had planned. Also, the blame of having Tang hurt in the process would also fall upon her, something for which the Xie family would never forgive her.

Fu had sworn repeatedly that he would not betray her. But since yesterday, Tang's demeanour seemed to suggest that he knew the entire truth. She had tried to slip out to meet Fu late evening on the prior day but the Xie siblings had prevented it, thwarting her every attempt to go out for a bit.

She gritted her teeth and told herself to stay strong. Even if Fu had said something, it was his word against hers and she knew how to use emotional blackmail very well. Though that bitch was also coming to Shanghai, the consolation was that she was going with Wang Wei. At least, it was one less problem to deal with, at the moment.

Moganshan

"Why can't I stay at a hotel near your place? I am uncomfortable coming over to your house," Jia Li told Wei, who was in the process of loading her luggage in the car.

She knew that he was worried for her but Tang had got it right when he had said that she would be really awkward staying with Wei's parents who were strangers for her.
