"Why don't you head back to the office. Your phone has been ringing non-stop since we landed. I know your driver well enough to coordinate things. As it is, you have assigned him to drive me all the way to Moganshan. There is no point wasting time here," Jia Li cajoled him.
Wei turned to face her and leaned in, closing the distance between them.
"I cherish every single moment spent with you. Nothing is more important than that. As a matter of fact, I am tempted to send the driver to report me sick in the office while I spend those extra hours in your company instead of him. How do you like the idea?" he asked wickedly.
Jia Li blushed furiously. Ever since Wei had expressed his feelings to her via the letter all those months ago, he had not let those feelings come to the forefront during their interactions and maintained the friendship intact. She hadn't been exposed to his legendary flirting skills up until now.
He grinned at her reaction and said, "if you continue to look like that, I absolutely will not be able to let you go. Red colour suits your cheeks…makes you look like a delicious apple!"
Thoroughly conscious now, she shoved him back.
"Stop with the nonsense. We are sticking to the original plan. Please go to the office now," she tried to sound firm.
The driver's arrival prevented Wei from responding back. Jia Li quickly handed over her luggage to the man and climbed up in the car's backseat.
With a rueful smile, he walked towards the car.
He ducked his head to speak through the window, "I almost forgot to tell you. Last night I made an important discovery."
At her curious gaze, he continued solemnly, "till date I wasn't aware that someone's lips could be like a snowflake – ready to melt in the mouth at the slightest warm touch."
Jia Li couldn't get over this new lethal side of him. Before she realised it, he stole a quick kiss from her lips and stepped back from the car. His eyes took in her bemused expression. Instructing the driver to drive safely, he waved at her.
God! He was missing her already. There was a new urgency in him. He didn't think that he would be able to last a fortnight without seeing her. Feeling like a giddy schoolboy, he drove to work.
"You were looking for me?," Wei entered Tang's cabin.
"Yeah, I wasn't sure about your flight's timings and didn't want to intrude upon your personal time. Hence, left a message with your secretary," Tang spoke a touch acerbically.
"Good, that you sought me out. I, uh…also have been meaning to talk to you about the, err…hiring of Jia Li without your knowledge. It is just that she was looking for an opportunity at that time and I kinda thought she was the right fit but with the history that you guys shared, she was slightly…" he was stopped mid-sentence by Tang.
"You took a decision to hire someone whose skill sets matched the requirement. As long as the company benefitted from it, I don't see why you need to offer justifications to me or anyone else. Regarding Jia Li's history or future with me, I don't need to or want to discuss that with you. Let us keep our professional and personal lives separate, hmm?" Tang spoke in a dangerously soft voice.
Wei contemplated for a few seconds before saying, "I like her, I like her a lot. And I am seriously courting her. I just wanted to let you know that."
Tang's eyes blazed at his bold declaration. He clenched his fists and tried to calm himself before speaking.
"I don't care what you do or what your intentions are. But if you hurt her in anyway, that is the time you will be actually answerable to me," he gritted his teeth.
His caveman attitude was getting on Wei's nerves, "are you not forgetting something important here? You have been married now for nearly an year now. Mei Zhen is the one whom you need to reserve these emotions for, not a woman who belongs to your past. I am telling you about my intentions towards Jia Li as a means of courtesy towards the history you guys shared."
Tang laughed harshly before replying, "a woman who belongs to my past? Here is the funny thing - a consummate womaniser is giving me a sermon on relationships. Get one thing absolutely clear. My marital status has nothing to do with my feelings for Jia Li and her well-being. She is not a shiny new toy for you to play with. If you dare to hurt her…"
"I am crazily in love with her," Wei interrupted him with this admission.
