"Then I will come along as well. I want to see him handcuffed," Tang said savagely.
"He is currently with his lawyer now. Some big hot shot came down from Shanghai early morning today. The guy must be well connected," remarked Ethan, who had reached the place before them.
"Isn't Fu based out of Beijing? How did he manage to arrange a lawyer for himself from Shanghai so quickly?" Wei mused.
Right then, they saw Mei Zhen stepping out of a cabin with a man.
"What are you doing here?" Tang approached her, confusion and surprise on his face.
Her face went white at the sight of all of them standing in front of her.
"Wh…why aren't you all at the hospital?" she stammered.
"Who are you? And why are you here with Mei Zhen?" Tang asked the man standing beside her.
The officious looking man puffed up when confronted with Tang's angry tone.
"I am a part of XXX law firm in Shanghai. I am here to represent Mr. Cheng Fu," he declared.
"Wait a second. I don't understand this. Isn't that one of the top criminal law firms there?" Tang grilled him further.
The man smiled arrogantly and said, "it is not one of the many firms, it is ranked above all other firms."
"And how can someone like…" Tang couldn't finish his question because Mei Zhen intervened.
"Can you stop asking him so many questions? You need to take it easy. Did you come here to give your statements?" she asked, interrupting him.
"Mei Zhen, let's you and I have a talk outside for a minute. Wei, why don't you entertain our famous lawyer here till then," Tang looked at Wei meaningfully, before dragging Mei Zhen out with him.
Jia Li was unable to make sense of what was happening but Wei grasped what Tang had started to suspect. Taking the lawyer aside, he used his charm to extract few details out of him. Ethan followed him there.
"I am sorry, you can't meet the accused. He is in detention right now after finishing the meeting with his lawyer," the police officer told Jia Li.
While Wei and Ethan were still occupied in a hushed conversation with the lawyer, she decided to step outside and wait for them.
"Tell me the truth. Are you the one who went looking for Jia Li's ex-husband? Were you his partner in crime? That's why you were in Moganshan yesterday! Now it all makes sense. Otherwise, how would Fu know where to look for Jia Li and also, that I am in town as well," Tang loomed over her ominously.
Mei Zhen thought of lying initially but then decided to brazen it out.
"Can you blame me for seeking out others to help me? And I didn't go looking for him. We ran into each other at Beijing coincidentally. Since he seemed to be missing Jia Li a little, I gave him the update on her. That's it. How would I know that he would go to such lengths?" she shrugged her shoulders.
Tang grabbed her by the forearms and shook her hard, "you expect me to believe that you were completely innocent in this whole episode? Then tell me this, how did you know when would he be coming to Jia Li's house?"
She looked hurt and said in a low voice, "I didn't come because of him. I came to see you. I had been missing you so much and was feeling low. It was just a bad coincidence. How can you even think that I would plot something so devious."
Tang's anger was escalating by the minute.
"Is it so? But I was staying at the hotel not at her house. Why did you land up outside her house, then? In fact, let us go and ask Fu about the extent of your involvement in the matter. You won't have any issues with that, would you?" he growled softly.
Jia Li, who had stumbled upon their conversation unintentionally, decided to intervene.
"Tang, you are hurting her. Let go of her arms," she said and tried to pull his hands away from Mei Zhen's shoulders.
"You bitch, you stay out of the matter between us. Enough damage has been done by you. How many men do you need in your life at one time to satisfy you?" Mei Zhen snarled at her.
Jia Li was taken aback at the vehemence in her tone. She mumbled an apology and made a move to walk away from there.
"How dare you? Who do you think you are to speak with her in that manner?" Tang shouted.
"I am your bloody wife and you better remember that," she shouted back.
Ethan and Wei had walked out by then, listening to their raised voices and started to pull them both towards the exit.
