Wei thought that there was something instinctively untrustworthy about this guy, Zhu Cheng.
Samantha Li apparently didn't live with them, considering her work experience and education had been completed in London. He suddenly recalled seeing her driving licence, as well, which was for London. Uh... he found himself going red in the face, as he remembered other things along with that!
Well, he was looking forward to working with the father and daughter duo. Henceforth, he simply intended to enjoy the show. It had been long since a distraction like this had presented itself in front of him. And he could definitely use one at the moment.
New York Hospital, New York
"You need to go back and rest for a bit. At this rate, you will fall sick and add to my woes," chided Mr. Xie gently.
"No, I am not going back till the time Tang doesn't regain consciousness," his wife replied stubbornly.
It had been two days since the neurosurgeon had operated upon Tang. They had successfully managed to remove the clot but he had slipped into a coma since then. No one knew whether or not any of his faculties had been impacted. The doctor had no answer in terms of when would he or whether he would resurface. He told them that this had been one of the possibilities which he had mentioned to them prior to the operation. It was a wait and watch game for now.
Ethan had been a big support to the family during this time and had maintained a pragmatic approach to the whole episode. Chu was trying to act brave but was as weak as her mother from within.
The entire Xie family seemed to be hanging onto composure by a mere silken thread. The minute that slipped out of their hands, Ethan was worried that they may not survive Tang's current condition.
"Uh… do you think we should seek another specialist's opinion, Ethan?" Mr. Xie asked him.
Ethan didn't have it in him to remind his future father in-law that they had already consulted many top doctors across the world for second, third, fourth, miscellaneous opinions.
He nodded his head and murmured that he would find a suitable doctor to consult with.
"Oh God, why is my son suffering so much? He hasn't done anything to deserve your wrath. Please, I beg you to spare him, return him to us, hale and hearty," Mrs. Xie had only been chanting this, all through the past two days.
Her husband's heart was breaking looking at her sunken eyes and the desolate face of his daughter.
"Mr. Xie, the formalities have been completed from our end. We have successfully transferred our share to the Li family. Would you like me to take you through the details of the process and the information about the directors joining from their end?" the lawyer called and informed him.
"I don't care about any of that. I just need you to direct some of this money towards the Surgeon's account as promised. Ensure that he has enough for whatever purpose that he requires it for," Mr. Xie instructed.
Though the surgeon had not been able to perform the miracle as he had hoped, Mr. Xie wanted to keep his end of the bargain. He simply had no interest left in anything which was happening around him. His vision had narrowed down to just his family's well-being. His mind often found itself wandering through the lanes of the past. Some of those lanes took him to happy moments, others to vicious ones. He was repenting his past actions, so much time had been wasted in futile issues when he could have used those moments to create beautiful memories with his son.
"No, what am I thinking? So what if I don't have enough happy memories in the past, I will ensure that I make plenty of them when Tang recovers. As long as we have enough money to live comfortably, I don't care about whether we are Shanghai's top business family or not. I just want my kids and my wife healthy and happy," he said fiercely to himself.
"Dad, I am here with mom. Why don't you go and rest at home for a bit. No point for all of us to fall sick with big brother, right?" Chu coaxed him.
Though he was reluctant to leave his son's side, he nodded in silent agreement. Unlike his wife, he knew that they could be waiting outside their son's room for many days to come. And he needed to stay strong for all their sakes. Patting his wife on her shoulder, he walked towards the elevators.
Chu walked up to Ethan and spoke softly, "do you think that we should inform Jia Li? I mean…"
Ethan shook his head in negative even before she finished her sentence.
