Sam looked at him in disbelief for a second and then started to laugh.
"Are you listening to what is coming out of your mouth? Do you actually think that I would believe even a single word of what you say? Now if you are done speaking rubbish, can you please get out?" she said.
Zhu Cheng finally got up. He placed his hands on the table separating them and leaned in towards her.
"Don't tell me later that I didn't warn you!" he whispered in a sinister tone.
All humour was gone from his face and he looked like a predator on tail of its prey. Sam hid an involuntary shiver which ran up her body, at his words.
"Ms. Li, do you have the numbers ready, which I asked for?" Wang Wei's quiet voice came from the cabin's door.
Sam looked up in relief. She got up from her seat and walked quickly towards him.
"I… I was just getting to it," she told him.
"Who are you?" Wei addressed Zhu Cheng coldly.
He knew that the guy was the son in-law of the Li family but when he was walking past Sam's cabin just now, something in her face had stopped him and made him turn towards the door. He couldn't hear anything through the glass door, but it seemed that the guy was trying to threaten her. Till date, he had only seen the girl in a spunky, dare devil avatar. This white faced girl did not look familiar.
"Hi, Mr Wang. Maybe you didn't recognise me. We met earlier last week with your father and my father in-law. I am Zhu Cheng," he straightened up and extended his hand towards Wei with a warm engaging smile.
Ignoring his outstretched hand, he addressed Sam in a stern manner, "Ms. Li, we deal with a lot of sensitive data in our cabins. Next time, if you wish to meet anyone who isn't an employee of this organisation, I suggest you use the conference room."
Zhu Cheng paled at the veiled insult.
"Please don't scold her. I had just dropped in to see my dear sister in-law. I hadn't had a chance to meet her ever since she came back to China. I was just leaving," he said, in an attempt to show his closeness to Sam.
Wei could feel the woman next to him, bristle at the implied familiarity but before she could respond, he surprised Zhu Cheng and Sam with his next words.
"Mr. Zhu, we take our work very seriously here. I would like you to keep your familial interactions outside this building," he said in a no nonsense tone.
Zhu Cheng got extremely uncomfortable when he realised that Wang Wei had no intentions of leaving the room anytime soon. Bidding a polite bye to them, he left.
Sam breathed in deep and turned to face her saviour.
"I am sorry, Mr. Wang. I'll ensure that it doesn't happen again. I didn't know that he would be…" she was stopped by him.
"Just get me that report," he said brusquely and left.
Despite his cold words, Sam was not put off at all. She nodded her head and told him that she would bring it to him right away.
"And next time you have an adversary, whom you are scared off, make sure that he can't see it. Else it would make him stronger, in his head and yours," with that cryptic remark, he left her cabin.
Sam stared at his retreating back. How did he know that I had been scared of Zhu Cheng?
"I shouldn't have opened my mouth. It is none of my business," he lectured himself upon reaching his desk.
Fifteen minutes later, Sam knocked tentatively at his door and entered.
"Here's the report you asked for. And… uh, thank you for earlier. I …" she started.
"Listen, I was out of line. Your business is not my concern. I apologise. Thanks for the report," he told her in a dismissive tone.
Sam was confused by his blow hot blow cold attitude.
"Since when did the knight in shining armour start saying sorry for saving the damsel?" she thought angrily.
"I understand, Mr Wang. In fact I am the one who is sorry for causing you unnecessary trouble and waste of your time earlier. It won't happen again," on a huff, she walked out.
Wei smiled at her snooty expression, not that she could see it since she had already left. Finally, she was behaving normally again.
Humming under his breath, he paused for a second when his mind wandered back to the scene from sometime back. Why would the brother in-law be threatening her? She had just come back to the country. How could she have pissed people already. But then, she did have that personality which could rub people the wrong way.
Not everyone could tolerate cocky, smart mouthed women!
