After sitting in a cab, Samantha examined her hand which was now bruised because of hitting Cheng so hard. But she couldn't feel any soreness. The satisfaction which was coursing through her currently was enough to numb the pain. She knew that it hadn't been the wisest move and there would be repercussions but she had been wanting to do this for six years now. There was no denying that it felt good.
Reaching home, she changed into a comfortable pair of pyjamas and t shirt after freshening up. Taking an ice pack, she put it on her hand which had swelled up considerably now. The doorbell rang and she went to answer it.
"Oh hey, what brings you here?" she asked in surprise when she saw Wang Wei at her door.
Ever since she had shifted into the same building as him, it was the first time that he had come down to her apartment.
He entered the place and said, "I just came to check upon what transpired in the meeting with… what happened to your hand?"
He saw the black and blue wound on her hand and looked at her in concern.
Laughing she replied, "you should see the other guy."
Before he could ask any further, she recounted the sequence of events.
"Damn, you shouldn't have done it. There is no need to provoke a vicious enemy. From what I saw the other day, he already hates you enough. Having said that, I understand why you did it. But you have to be careful in the near future. I am ninety percent sure of some sort of retaliation from his end, knowing what kind of a guy he is," he admonished her in a warning tone.
"Yes, I am aware but seeing him stand there with a smug expression on his face, I just couldn't help myself," she told him.
Wei gave a short laugh and said, "you are a blood thirsty woman. I have to be wary of you. Anyways, I am going now. You better ice that well. I don't want to hear an excuse tomorrow that you had to take a leave of absence from work because of this."
Sam's traitorous heart somersaulted at the sound of his laughter. The crinkling of his eyes made him look even more attractive than usual.
"Oh God, I am falling hard. Someone save me," with all such raucous thoughts in her, she somehow managed to keep her face impassive.
Bidding him bye, she shut the door and went to the kitchen to figure out her dinner. The bell rang again earning a frown from her.
"Has he forgotten something?" with that thought, she ran towards the main door.
"Hello beautiful, we finally get to meet," said a stranger and pushed her inside the flat before she could even utter a sound.
Grabbing her hand which was hurt, he brought her sharply against him, making her wince in pain. He squeezed the hand tightly and held her body captive against his. Sam's head was reeling, trying to make sense of what had just happened.
Who was this guy? She had never met him before but he seemed familiar somehow.
"Nevermind, there will be enough time to find out who he is," with that thought, she spun around fast.
Ducking her head below her arms which had been held, she turned to face him and butted her head against his. The guy reeled back in shock. Before he could recover, she landed a kick on his chin, making him fall on the floor. She ran to get her phone from the other room.
An hour later
The police had just finished taking her statement. Wei shook hands with the officer and saw him off. The guy had been caught and taken to the police station for processing. After shutting the door, Wei turned to look at Samantha.
She had been brave all through this while but now her face was showing signs of fatigue. When he had received her call, the Earth had shifted from below his feet. He had ran down without waiting for the elevator. The door was ajar and the scene in front of him was scary. Though this time she was the one standing and the perpetrator was on the floor but it could have been easily the opposite. He had warmed a cup of milk for her while she had recounted what transpired in the house, first to him and then to the police officers. Though he suggested that she call and inform her family, she had firmly refused to do so.
Now, she looked forlorn and tiny in the coat which she had wrapped around herself.
"Are you sure that you don't need to go the hospital? I think we should get that hand looked at," he came and sat next to her.
