"Ha ha, I knew it! I am so proud of you, girl. So what is the actual situation? Do you need any help? I could ask Tang to intervene. He is one of the smartest business brains around," pride had crept into Jia Li's words, inadvertently.
Sam rolled her eyes at Jia Li's blatant attempt to showcase her boyfriend's skills. Didn't she know that no one could be better than Wang Wei. But keeping in mind her regard for the older woman, Sam didn't say any of it.
"Well, I'll let you know incase we need help. As for the groud reality, Zhu Cheng has indeed started acquiring shares from the market, and he did approach my father. But my sister, Yimei, told our father that she wished to keep the shares intact for her unborn child and not hand them over to her husband. So I told Wei about the first half. It's possible that I may have forgotten to add the insignificant small details," she told Jia Li with wicked laughter in her voice.
Jia Li put down the phone after a few more minutes of chit chat.
"You seem to be quite friendly with the girl," Tang's tone held surprise.
"Why wouldn't I be? I am the catalyst for their coming together," she replied loftily.
"Look at you taking all the credit for it, shamelessly. It is my observation that you have become quite the schemester. Nowadays, there is always some plan or another cooking up in that small brain of yours. Ethan told me how with your 'help', Chu ambushed him and took him on a surprise honeymoon. He sounded quite put off by the fact that he didn't get to choose the destination or plan the trip," Tang chided.
"Utter rubbish. Had Chu waited for him to plan, they would have gone on the honeymoon with their kids. How dare he go to work on the second day after the wedding? If I wouldn't help her, who would? You? Instead of being thankful for helping your dear sister, you are actually scolding me for it. And then you say that I am the bossy one," she sniffed.
"Alright alright, my drama queen. You dare not bring out those tears. Despite knowing that they aren't real, I can't stand seeing them in your eyes. It was my mistake. My darling Jia Li is the best. She takes care of me, my family, my world," he said in a pacifying voice.
Saying so, he pulled her onto his lap.
She wiggled slightly and said, "you work really hard to get rid of this damn thing. And till then, increase the size of the chair to make it more comfortable for us to, err… indulge in some recreational activities."
Six Months Later
"It's good to see you, Jia Li. You look radiant," Hui smiled and got up from his chair to greet her.
She had come to London for the first time ever since Chu's wedding. Ying Hui had been more than accommodating and had not said a word about her abrupt quitting.
"It's great to be back, albeit in a slightly different role this time. Please go easy on me, boss," she returned his smile.
Jia Li had joined Tang's cousin's venture and was frequently shuffling between China and New York during the past couple of months. Today, she was here on behalf of that company to interact with Hui.
Before Hui could respond, she got clapped on the back.
"Look who returns as the Lady Boss! Of course, we shall go easy on you. You are the client now," Eric said with a roll of his eyes.
He still held a tiny grudge against her for not giving Hui a fair chance.
Jia Li gave him a hurt look and replied, "that's so unfair. Barbs being thrown at me, first thing. I thought we were friends."
"Huh! You mean friends who come to the city for your wedding but don't actually show up for the function? Or the ones who don't bother staying in touch for the longest and then suddenly show up, having joined the enemy, err… I mean, the client," he said in his usual dramatic manner.
Jia Li had been so immersed into meeting Tang and being with him that she hadn't gone the next day for Eric and Melissa's wedding. Though she had sent a few messages, apologising, clearly they hadn't been enough for Eric to forgive her.
She held her ears immediately and said, "I agree with you but maybe you can be the magnanimous one and forgive me this time around. Can I try and make up for it by treating you and the new bride to a nice dinner later tonight?"
With a serious expression, he pretended to consider her offer before agreeing to it with a shrug.
The banter continued for a few moments before they got down to business.
"So you are saying that the entire operations would be set up based on the guidelines that Earthly Matters proposes?" Hui leaned back into his chair and asked.
