"Grant! Get in here!" A gruff voice called out.
Ci-ci snapped out of it, looking toward a corner office in the distance. With a sigh, he calmly walked down the hall, weaving through the poor law clerks running around like little chicks without their heads.
"Hey, handsome."
Ci-ci turned, letting his eyes linger on the seductively dressed secretary sitting outside of the large corner office.
She was a middle-aged woman, exuding a mature charm. Everything from her delicate brown skin, to her hazel eyes and skin-tight floral blouse and short skirt, was tempting beyond belief.
That said, this woman was definitely a mother figure of the 75th floor. Most of the time, she was the mother figure of the entire firm. Still, one couldn't help but drool when looking at her.
"Looking as beautiful as ever, Aesha."
Aesha's ample chest rippled as she giggle lightly. "One of those new little clerks tried to take a swipe at me earlier." She said in a teasing, yet slightly threatening tone.
"Poor soul. You didn't treat him too badly, did you?"
"Let's just say he's buried in paperwork."
"Good. That'll teach him to try and take advantage of my woman."
"Tsk tsk, what would Milana think if she heard you say this? She's too adorable, I don't want to be a home wrecker." Aesha pouted, looking up at Ci-ci with her watery eyes.
Ci-ci grinned. "I have enough love for the both of you."
Aesha snorted. "You should get in there. It's actually quite serious this time."
"What's going on?"
Aesha sighed, "You're probably the only one who could get away with having such a low number of billable hours. If you weren't so good, you would have been fired a thousand times over.
"It's been a whirlwind ever since this morning. There's a major merger happening and it's quite possible that we could lose one of our prime clients to Clarke and Buffett."
"Oh?" Ci-ci sunk into a pensive look.
Much like lawyers, clients were ranked as well. Prime Clients were by far the most important to a firm and could essentially be important enough to be labeled as their life blood. A single firm would only have between three to five Prime Clients, and although they were named like this, they actually represented large corporations that relied on their firm for protection.
As for how important, Prime Clients could be responsible for anywhere from 10% to 20% of the contracted money a firm brought it. For obvious reasons, any firm losing that much cashflow would take a heavy hit.
"What kind of merger are we dealing with here?"
"A mixed conglomerate. Simple Pharmaceuticals and the Lewis and Clark Research Group."
Ci-ci raised an eyebrow. "Lewis and Clark? What's the catch?"
"At least you're smarter than those other associates. The rest of them immediately leaped to campaigning to try and steal business from Clarke and Buffett."
The problem was obvious. Lewis and Clark and Simple Pharmaceuticals were both backed by two different firms, one of which was their own Patterson and Gravelle.
The Lewis and Clark Research Group had been a Prime Client of their firm for a long time, while Simple Pharmaceuticals was backed by Clarke and Buffett.
If two separate companies merge into one, why would they need two lawyer firms? If anything, that would make things needlessly difficult. Dealing with one team of lawyers with a singular mindset made more sense than dealing with two.
This meant that at the end of all of this, one firm would have their portfolio enhanced by almost 20%, while the other would lose the same amount. The benefit of such a thing didn't need to be explained, nor did the detriment.
That aside, the reason Ci-ci found this odd was that just a few months ago, the research group was hit heavily with a flurry of not only bad press, but flagrant lawsuits. In fact, much of it consisted of circulating news stories putting the ownership of their medicinal formulas under contention. The only true lawsuit wasn't for the company itself at all, but rather related to sexual assault and **** cases aimed toward their Head scientist and CEO.
For all of that to happen over the course of the last six months or so, and this for this merger to so suddenly be on the table… How could Ci-ci not find it fishy?
"How can you blame them, they're trying to hard to impress you." Ci-ci grinned as he walked into the corner office, not seeming to notice Aesha's rolling eyes.
"You have a lot of nerve!" The moment Ci-ci walked in, he was greeted with a torrent of curses.
A burly, grey haired man sat behind piles of files, tearing through them one by one without even looking up.
Unfortunately, Ci-ci couldn't say much. This grey-haired man was actually a Junior Partner of the firm and had been with Patterson and Gravelle for more than 70 years already. In terms of the hierarchy system, every employee had a higher-level official that acted as their supervisor, and Mr. Grant was Ci-ci's.

"We've been in shit all day kid and you're standing around with your thumbs up your ass, flirting with women when we have real work to do. Why I haven't fired your ass yet, I'll never know. You want to be stuck as a fucking Senior Associate for the rest of your life? Those little bastards at Clarke and Buffett would wipe the floor with you!"
