26 Chapter 25

I decided to sleep in, seeing as I had no training and not wanting to run into Buford. One more day until the ball, ugh, do I need a date? Asking Claudette this, she simply responds, as long as they are part of our community, meaning no humans. Well, that's great, I don't know anyone single beside Buford and Kelvin, now wouldn't that be awkward.

Oh well, I guess I'll go alone, it would be better anyhow seeing as I don't have any luck with guys. Tonight is our last dinner together with his mother, and Buford's dad is coming into town tonight with Zaline's parents.

It's been decided that we will need to pick some more people to put on the council, as most didn't survive. I have final decision once the elders propose the picks for it, and it's my duty to name them at the ball as part of my role as queen, and unfortunately, I need to look a little more formal for this dinner.

As I slip on my black heels, matched with my knee-length white dress, and black shawl to go over it, a few bits of jewelry, and my hair pinned to the side, it's time to go meet everyone.

One thing I've learned about this magic community is the fact that we do not really go out to eat, we always stay in, I'm assuming so we can talk freely, and the second is that even though we do stay in, we still dress for the occasion.

Looking over the group that is slightly bowing to me, some faces I know, some I do not, everyone is dressed very formally. It takes a minute to get used to, and after a few seconds, the introductions begin. Zaline comes up first with her parents in tow, all slightly bowing again in front of me, which is another custom I must get used to.

"Acadia, this is my mother Wren, and my father Zane, and this is our new queen Acadia" I shake both of their hands.

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you, I've heard so much about you" and then Buford steps up with his parents, again slightly bowing, wow he's being so formal, ugh.

"Acadia, you already know my mother Claudette, and this is my father Orson" I smile and tell him it's nice to meet him as well.

We all start to settle at the table with me at one end and Buford at the other, the seats to our right and left with the others and noticed that one chair was empty.

"Is Kelvin not coming?"

Oran speaks this time "Queen, I do apologize, I sent him on a mission of sorts to gather a present, I am sure he will not be long" I bristle a little at being called queen so much

"That is ok, and please, all of you call me Acadia, unless it's for a meeting or something, we are just having dinner together" I kind of laugh.

Everyone seemed to take this and lighten their spirits. The discussion continues with everyone about how they have been doing and normal life, as we eat dinner. It wasn't long after we started that Kelvin joined us with an apology, I told him it's ok and beckoned him to sit beside Zaline.

To see the two of them blush while he sat down, well that's something for tomorrow's talk during girl's day, when we get our hair and finalize our looks for the ball, I can't wait. It seems now it is time for dessert, and onto the business of choosing council members.
