It has been a week since the announcement about my mother and my soon to be marriage, we all spent the week in mourning for my mother.
After they announced what would happen with the marriage prospects, they told me they could come from anywhere and they would go through some trials before being selected.
I told them that I would have the final say in who I marry, tradition or not, and they all agreed, they said this is a process to help choose the best.
I haven't spoken to Buford since the meeting and I secretly hope he makes it through the trials, if he is even going to participate, but I won't let him know that.
I decided to sneak to the mansion they are holding the trials at, and take a peek at some of the men that will be coming. I should say I tried to sneak in but of course being the queen, it wasn't long before I was noticed by some of the housekeepers.
They led me to a balcony that oversaw the whole ballroom and was well hidden from them, and I saw chairs lined up for the men to sit, a refreshment table and some guards.
The middle of the room was empty for what I assumed was the area to show them their powers and a table in front of that for the council.
They told me I could come and sit with them but I refused because they were supposed to make the decisions based on powers, and other things that the council is for I had no clue about still. That doesn't mean I didn't want to see what was going on, or how things were running, to prepare my future children for the same fate.
There were already about forty men in the seats, some were mingling with others and some were on their phones away from the others. I saw a few handsome faces, but nothing that stood out like Buford did, and I couldn't find him anywhere, but I did see his mother at the council table with the others.
Squinting my eyes at the man that came in the door, he looked familiar, and I had to wait for him to get closer, no, it couldn't be. Remey strode in like he was at home, a few nods came his way and he suddenly stopped and looked up towards me. Quickly ducking down hoping he didn't see me, my heart was racing, what was he doing here?
I finally picked my head up when I heard shouts that sounded like Buford, and when I looked, sure enough, they were toe to toe, with guards surrounding them.
"You are not supposed to be here traitor!" Buford yelled at Remey.
"The invitation is for ALL men with magic, so I came, for Acadia" he said cooly back to Buford.
"What makes you think she wants you!" Buford yelled at him.
"It doesn't matter what you say, I will pass the trials and you will see my friend" He told him and turned around to walk to the other side of the room.
I looked at Buford to see his angry face talking to the guards in hushed tones. I don't know how I feel about Remey being here either, I trusted him once and he betrayed me, but he also told me he was being real with me.
My father supposedly made him do those things to me, I remembered how sweet he was to me, and how we got along very well, but I never fully gave it a chance now did I.
No, I was always drawn to Buford even if I was with Remey, but I guess we will see if his words are true soon enough, he has to pass the trials first.
Since the incident with my father, they added a truth trial to see the intentions of the new soon to be husband of mine, and it forces the truth out of them.
I am glad I came today, now I have nothing to do but sit back in the shadows and see who comes out on top after today and tomorrow.
Tomorrow it should be down to less than half of them, and by lunch is when I will be asked to see who the last two are, and I actually got a little excited to see if either Buford or Remey will make it to the end.
