Chapter 43 - HUNTING THE HUNTER PART 2

[KYLE POV]

"I see you've done your research. I knew you were a fellow hacker after I saw how much your information was guarded." The small man before me looked really pleased with himself.

"Yes, and I noticed your attack on my data but there were no true traces left so you're pretty good yourself."

"Yeah, well, I met Jacy when I was nothing more than a tech savvy freshman in school that hacked for fun. Since then I have honed my skills to help her with her work."

"That was when you were fifteen?"

"My, my, you have done your homework." He giggled again. "Yes, I met her when I was fifteen and she saved my life. My family has since adopted her."

"Why is she hiding who she is? What is going on with her?"

"Why do you want to know?" He was glaring at me now, like he was intent on protecting my woman. Didn't he know that was my job?

"Because she is my mate and I want to know what I can about her."

"Oooh, I knew it. She was trying to deny it was true but I knew when I told her about the mark on her shoulder that you were her mate." He seemed excited now. "But if you're her mate, shouldn't you have her information by now?" He laughed since he knew that I didn't have it.

"I see you know what she and I are." I smirked at him.

"Well, I know she is a wolf, but I don't know what you are."

"I am a panther."

"Ooh, a kitty and a puppy, how wonderful." He was smiling. "Now, tell me why you don't know where Jacy is right now."

"Well, she snuck out of my place the other day and I haven't seen her since. She hasn't been home either."

"Yes, she told me you live right next to her, how long have you been there?" Man he was definitely nosey.

"Just over three weeks." Answering him was no real problem for me, and if it got me what I needed then it was all for the best.

"Lovely, you moved in while she was away for a month. No wonder she didn't know you were there." He was clapping his hands together in glee and he grinned happily. "And how do you feel about my big sister?"

"I can't live without her. In this short amount of time I had come to need her near me. I crave her scent and her body."

"You don't just want her for a booty call, do you?" He looked angry now, perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned the body part of that explanation.

"What do you take me for?" For some reason that phrase made him laugh loudly but he settled soon and leveled me a hard glare.

"I take you for the man who took my bestie home from the bar and fucked her into oblivion. You know she didn't remember you or most of that night until she saw the picture of you that I pulled up on my computer. She knew she had had sex of course, but she couldn't remember who it was with. Just your eyes, that's all she had."

"That wasn't my intention."

"Why did you leave?" He was definitely taking this brotherly role of his very seriously.

"I had to get to work. But I left her a note."

"With just your initial."

"I didn't know that she would forget the night." That was true, though she did have a lot of strong drinks.

"Mmhmm." He was being a little critical for a man who had taken her to a gay club the next night. "Fine. Tell me why you want to find her so bad right now."

"A few reasons really. Like I said she is my mate and I have a biological need to protect her and make sure she is safe."

"She won't like that, she is independent and strong as hell."

"I've noticed." I laughed at him.

"What is the next reason?"

"I am concerned about some things that she has said to me about not wanting a mate."

"Yeah, she has not had a good time within her pack and is in no hurry to get back to them."

"Interesting." So she wasn't running home right now.

"Anything else?" He caused me to look at him. "Any more reasons you want to find her?"

"She has something of mine with her."

"And what is that, Casanova? Your heart?"

"No, my baby." That seemed to make the small man's head explode.

"I knew it." He grinned when he was finally able to speak again. "I knew it wasn't the coffee that was making her feel sick."

"She's already feeling sick?" I could hear the worry in my voice. "If she can't eat or is too sick she will be weakened. Where is she?"

"She's on a job." I felt my heart stop. She was out on a job? Which meant she was after a bounty.

"Where?"

"Well, I don't know if she actually went there or not, but the information I had given her said the bounty was most likely around Jasper, Arkansas."

"That explains the path she is taking." I had my elbow resting on the arm of the chair and my chin resting in my hand as I thought about things.

"So, you hacked her GPS before coming here." It wasn't a question so I didn't bother to answer. "She should be fine. She is going after a nasty perv that likes to look at kids, it shouldn't get violent."

"Still, I should go and help her." I was already getting to my feet. "This time in the pregnancy will be very hard on her."

"She will be fine, I'm telling you."

"I'm going." I roared at the man. "And don't you dare tell her that I am going to meet her there."

"I wouldn't dream of it. I think the story will be much more funny when I hear how she reacted to seeing you. Do make sure you tell me what her face looked like and pass along my love will you?" He winked at me and just watched as I left the house.. He was a strange man indeed.
