Chapter 120 - CALLING IN BACKUP

[KYLE POV]

After Jacy felt the baby move, she told me that she hasn't been out of the house in a week without feeling like someone was watching her, even today. It started happening after the dream she had about her cousin finding her so she thought she was just being paranoid. She also said that she had experienced the same feeling when she first ran away from home.

I could just imagine how hard it was on her when she came here alone. She didn't have anyone to talk to at first. She may have met a friend pretty early on, but that doesn't mean that she had the easiest time of things.

I mean, she didn't even meet EZ for a few years. So she didn't have the help of EZ's family until then. Dammit, why did she have to go through so much like this? I wish I could have been there to help her out.

I was watching Jacy sleep, trying to figure a lot of things out right now. I needed to protect her. I needed to keep my mate safe. An attack on her was an attack on me and my pack. That's what I was going to treat it as.

I knew what I needed to do, but I knew that Jacy would get mad about it as well. I had to decide if I was willing to put up with her being angry with me a little bit or not. And to be honest, with the specific threat facing us, I think that I was.

I know that my main focus was getting through this wedding unscathed. If we could do that I think Jacy would feel safer, well calmer. I don't think there was anything that would make Jacy feel unsafe. She doesn't seem to have a normal person's sense of danger.

I snuck out of the room then, while the thoughts were fresh in my mind. I was going to put a plan into action right now. I was not going to let another second pass me by. This was too damn important and necessary.

I went to my office, my personal space that was for me and not shared between us. Jacy had her own office as well. Both offices were on the opposite side of the living room and were shaped the same. The only differences were in the decorating.

Jacy's style was more toward the black and red theme, big shock there. My office was black and silk, sleek in design. Both were very modern and had the best computer equipment that money could buy, or hackers could build. I wouldn't skimp on that being a hacker myself. We each had a private network that was untraceable and virtually unhackable. It would take someone elite to even attempt it, and someone even better to accomplish it. These programs were written by both me and EZ. He was a handy little guard chihuahua for my mate.

Aside from the network and the design of the rooms, they were like normal offices with filing cabinets, bookshelves, and ample seating. We wouldn't be seeing business associates at home often, but it would happen from time to time so it was a must.

When I slid into the sleek leather chair behind my desk, I was already dialing a number on my cell phone from memory. It rang four times before someone picked up. I guess I could let that slide since it was the middle of the night.

"Hey, Kyle, what's up?" This man was one of the few people that I considered a friend in my pack. His name was Baxter, and he was a lion shifter. He could be a ruthless man when he needed to be, but most of the time he was nothing but a big tabby cat.

"Hey Bax, I need you to do something for me."

"Sure thing, Kyle. What do you need? Given the time of night I am going to guess that it's important, and possibly an emergency." His voice shifted while he talked, it went from friendly and open to serious and ready for business. That was a good thing about him.

"Yeah, it is important. I know you remember my new mate."

"The werewolf Alpha? Yeah, she's still hot gossip among the pack. I keep catching word of it on the line." Baxter, Bax to his friends, was a communications specialist. He was the kind of person that you sent in if you wanted to monitor someone's phones or video connections. He had a lot of tools at his disposal as well, since he worked for the department of homeland security.

"Well, someone is after her. We know who the mastermind is, but we're not sure if it's him coming, or if he's sending a peon for now."

"Who is this scumbag? And what makes him think he can come after your mate?" He sounded angry about this, which I knew he would. Jacy was my pack's Felicitas now, that made her vital to them. A pack cannot thrive and survive without a Felicitas which literally means happiness and productivity. The lead female for our packs are vital to us all.

"The main scumtastic asshole is Victor Portis. He is her cousin, who now runs her pack."

"Was he a born Alpha as well?" I know why he would have thought that; why else would a born Alpha not be leading their own pack?

"Not that I know of, but he was the strongest candidate for Alpha until Jacy was discovered to be what she is.

"Then what is that assfuck doing running her pack? She should be leading her own people." He seemed to have a lot of faith in my mate.

"Well, that's a little complicated, which involves murder, forced marriage, and fleeing for life."

"Seems like she's lived the life of a damn movie heroine." He sounded angry. "I'm guessing, based on those clues, that this piece of dick rot murdered the previous Alpha and wanted to tie himself to her through marriage, but she refused knowing that he would just end up killing her in the end as well?"

"By Scott, he's figured it out." I joked with him and heard the sound of his gruff laughter.

"Yeah, it wasn't hard to figure out with what you gave me. That might have more to do with my job than the clues themselves though, I'm trained to find these sorts of connections." I could hear the slight amount of bragging in his voice.

"Well, I'm counting on that training now. I need to track down that asshole, his brother, Matthew, and anyone else who might be working with them as well. We need to figure this all out soon. I am getting married at the next pack meeting, and I have a kid on the way. I won't risk the safety of my family for that asshole." The anger was seeping out of me, and I knew that he could hear it too.

"Yeah, I hear you. I won't stand for this either. I will get a team together, people that I trust. Together we will find them, and we will keep the Felicitas safe. She and the cub will be safe." There was conviction in his voice. I know that he was being serious and meant what he was saying.

"Thank Bax. I appreciate that. Keep me updated, call me whenever you need more info."

"Will do, boss. And I look forward to the wedding. Congrats."

"Yeah, now I just hope that the rest of the pack will feel the same. After what those bitches pulled last time, I am not so sure that my wedding will go smoothly."

"We will keep it safe then too. If you would have warned some of us beforehand, we could have run interference. We would have known to keep Gretch away from the two of you. I swear, Kyle, you're going to need a whole security detail soon." He laughed again as he made his joke.

"Yeah, well, I appreciate the help at the wedding as well. We're bringing a few more people with us as well. A vampire, an owl, and a human."

"Human?" He was shocked at that revelation.

"He knows about the shifter world. He's mated to the owl and the vampire."

"Both? That's unusual. What the hell is happening with you guys in that city?" His small laughs had turned into full blown guffaws now.

"It's interesting here, that's for sure. I will see you soon, and hopefully I will talk to you sooner."

"Yeah, sure thing. Goodnight." He hung up, and I just sat there staring at the phone in my hand. What the hell was going on in this city? That was the question. Who was in my city that I didn't know about? Who was here that was a danger to me and my family? I needed to find that out and fast.
