She woke up light headed in the morning. Rubbing her head she checked the time.

What?!

It was half past twelve in the afternoon! She lost a huge part of her day! She had one and a half hour, in which she could only manage to eat and get ready before heading to college for practice. Emily sighed, trying to calm down herself.

She directly went downstairs. Her dad had already left for job, mom and Chris were nowhere to be seen. She went to her parent's room, finding her mom to be covered in blankets and surrounded by a bundle of used tissue papers. "Emily, thank god you came. Please make breakfast yourself, I am not feeling well." She asked, her voice was extremely hoarse.

Emily stood there staring at her mom. She quickly returned to her senses at rushed over, opening all the drawers one by one to find a thermometer. "It's in the white box… In the last drawer…" Alicia said, coughing in between. Emily's heart ached so her mom in such a condition, which was totally out of the blue. She was shocked and not at all prepared to face such a situation. Her mom was a very immune person, how did she suddenly become so sick over a night?

She took out the thermometer, washed it and put it in her mom's mouth. She anxiously waited for three minutes. Ugh! For Emily, these three minutes seemed to be an eternity. She carefully took out the thermometer and checked the temperature. 102 F!

What. The. Hell!

Emily now started to panic. She ran outside and dashed towards Chris's room. As soon as she opened the door, her head started to ache. It was like a tornado passed through the room. The bed sheets were unfurled around the room. Clothes are scattered everywhere, including a sock, which was hanging on the ceiling fan. The books on the shelves were all messed up. Papers were found on the table as well as around the desk.

Where is he?!

She quickly took out her phone and called Chris. It took her three tries before he finally picked up. Before he could even say hello, Emily started to yell at him in anger. "Chris! Where on earth are you? Have you even seen your room? Didn't you inform mom about your whereabouts? Why weren't you picking up your cell? Can't you understand that there might be an emergency?"

While, on the other end, Chris's ear was about to explode with Emily's shouts. He stretched his hand which was holding the phone outwards, in order to avoid damage to his eardrum. His friends nearby were trying their best to control their laughter. Chris glared at them and went away from their earshot.

He was out since morning to practice cycling with his friends. So, he was obviously somewhere far away. "Hey?! Are you even listening? Don't you dare ignore me! Do you even know mom is so sick? Are you even her son?" She roared after getting no response, after a pause. Chris sighed, "Look, Emily. I am out with my friends cycling, and I am somewhere far away. I won't be home very soon. I'll be back after an hour." He then hung up.

Ah! You good-for-nothing monster! Wait till you get back.

She ran towards the kitchen, flipped it upside down and made some soup for her mom. She was taking the tray to her room and glanced at the kitchen. It was a complete mess. She groaned and served her mom the warm soup. Alicia was quite pleased. She tried to get up but her body was just too weak.

Emily placed a pillow behind her and helped her up carefully, then started to feed her with the soup. After a spoonful, Alicia complimented her culinary skills, she did not know that her daughter could cook this good. "Emily, this is so tasty!"

Emily beamed, "Well, I have your genes mom!" They both chatted for a while and laughed. But soon afterwards, Alicia got tired from speaking and the bowl was licked clean. Emily gave her medicines and tucked her in, kissing her forehead. "Ah, you'll catch a cold too!" Alicia exclaimed in a rasping voice. But, her heart felt so warm, as it was almost melting by the empathy. Emily giggled, "Don't worry!"

Emily grabbed a novel by Shakespeare from her mom's shelf and starting to read it for her. Her gentle voice filled the room. Soon enough, her mom started to snore lightly. Emily quietly left the room. As soon as she saw the kitchen, she frowned. When she looked at the time, her expression further darkened. The time was quarter past two.

Even if she could go for practice, she would never. Her mom would be alone and she really needed to accompany her for today. Today was not her lucky day after all. She took out her cell and texted Aiden that she would not be able to come today, while roughly explaining him the situation.

He quickly texted back, saying that he would be coming over to assist her. Emily wanted to reject but, right now, looking at the situation around her, she could really use some help.

The doorbell rang after five minutes and Emily opened the door, welcoming Aiden.
