~Taking you all back in time, when Linda finally waved goodbye to Emily at the airport and boarded the plane - two weeks ago~
She could not bear to part ways with Emily, neither her family. It was the most difficult decision she made. She did not want to go at all, but her strong determination to become a fashion designer and a model managed to convince her to take the risk and apply for the top fashion college in Paris. She did not expect to be selected for admission, let alone obtain a scholarship too.
Yet, out of the ordinary, she got a two year scholarship. She was so elated, that she felt she was flying. But the thought of leaving her home, friends and family, made her reluctant to go abroad and live alone. After explaining her situation to Emily and gaining her support, she felt confident in herself.
Now, here she was, sitting in the airplane, near the window, gazing outside lost in thoughts. She could not accept the reality. She was actually leaving! The plane started its engine and took off into the sky. It was all going fine, until, halfway through her journey, the sky became darker. The clouds became blacker. The wind was blowing stronger, as the plane started swaying. Soon enough, rain started pouring heavily.
Linda could feel her heart reach her throat. She gulped in fear. The flight attendant announced on the microphone, "Everyone, please relax. There is no need to fret. The pilot in charge is a professional. He can handle it." But the passengers were not comforted. Panic started to spread.
However, they still managed to travel half an hour further until a huge gust of wind crashed with the airplane, making it jump harshly. Linda felt as if she would faint, her head started spinning. If they continued any further, they would surely die. The plane was now practically bouncing in air. The women started screaming due to which children started crying. Color had been drained from everyone's faces. It was a total chaos.
Finally, another announcement was made, "Everyone, please be quiet for a minute! I have a delightful news for everyone. We shall not continue our journey any further, as we shall be landing at Ottawa International Airport in 10 minutes. Please buckle up and do not fear anymore."
Linda heaved a sigh of relief. At the same time, another thought greatly troubled her. For how long will they be staying there, and where?
At last, they landed safely. Everyone was told to move out and wait in the lounge, until the plane was being refueled and information was being gathered about the weather forecast along with other details. Linda was clueless. She was in the middle of nowhere. She dragged her one and only huge suitcase and found a place to sit. Making sure, she had everything and nothing was lost. She took out her cellphone to inform her parents, and discovered that the battery was about to die. Not only that, but there weren't any signals in this heavy rain.
Now, she started to freak out. Never having faced such a situation, she was about to go crazy. She looked for a place to charge her phone only to find that everyone had the same plan. The charging booth was crowded. She was hopeless. Perhaps it would've been better if she never came, she could have been enjoying with Emily...
Having no idea how long she had been awake, sitting awkwardly in a desolate corner, she started to feel drowsy. I want to sleep, her mind could only process this sentence. But she could not at all dare to take a nap right now. Caffeine! She thought. As she looked around to find a coffee shop. As soon as she spotted one in the far end, she picked up her bag and walked straight towards it. The closer she got the stronger the smell of bakery goods filled her nose, making her stomach churn with hunger.
Lucky to have a lot of money in her purse, she ordered for a cup of coffee and a doughnut.
She dropped into the chair near the counter, keeping her suitcase in her line of sight. Thankfully, she did not bring too much luggage, just a humongous suitcase and a backpack, keeping all the valuable stuff in it.
"You must be really tired, isn't it?" A middle-aged waitress came forward with the coffee and doughnut she ordered, placing it on the table in front of her. "A hundred percent." Linda replied downheartedly, and started to sip her coffee. "Even my phone battery is almost dead, do you have any solutions?" Linda asked, hoping it would be a yes. "Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that. But, I'm afraid, I will not be able to help you." The woman replied pitifully. "Ah... It's okay." Linda responded, undeniably troubled.
After she had eaten, she felt refreshed and better than before. She went to the help center for updates on her cancelled flight. "Excuse me, sir. I would like to ask you about the flight headed for Paris that was cancelled and landed here a while ago. Do you know when we will take-off again?" She pleaded to the man at the counter. "Yes, ma'am. We have been informed to take those passengers to a near-by hotel to stay for the night. The announcement will be made in a while when the bus will arrive. While the flight for Paris will departure tomorrow early morning at 8:00 a.m." The man replied.
Hearing him, she felt better. Soon enough an announcement was made requiring those passengers, whose flight had been cancelled to gather at the bus stop in ten minutes. She thanked the man profusely and rushed towards the bus stop with the help of the sign boards.
