Chapter 47 - The First Guild Mission

Hecathe looked at the poster in his hand and followed the directions given as he headed for the guild called Golden fire.

He was certainly tired but he felt that there was something more important that he needed to do as soon as possible.

Just as the landlady had previously told him, the golden fire was indeed a pretty famous and big guild and Hecathe could straightaway sense this as he looked at the large building that was decorated in a lavish manner, looking more like a fancy restaurant than a guild.

The landlady was quite shocked to see Hecathe agreeing without any hesitation as he took the poster and headed out with a simple "Okay" as a response. She might not have known this but the reason why Hecathe agreed to it so readily was because he read something really interesting in the poster.

The mission didn't clarify what they had to do nor did it clarify why they were suddenly looking for hunters. It simply said that hunters were needed.

Normally guilds would have a mission that would basically be about hunting mutants and collecting mutant beads so it was only natural that it would be the same this time as well, however since it wasn't specified, Hecathe couldn't be sure that this was really the mission.

Guilds would normally not permit hunters from the outside to go and join them on the hunt unless the guild was really running low on manpower.

This golden fire guild was quite big and had a lot of mages and hunters working under it. For it to suddenly run short on manpower was hard to believe and what was even harder to believe was the fact that it didn't specify in the poster how many hunters were needed.

Vacancies would hardly come and whenever they did come, it would be only for a few people, but there was no limit stated in the poster which meant the guild was looking for as many hunters as possible.

Hecathe didn't hesitate for even a second as he headed inside the guild and was immediately greeted with the smell of strong alcohol.

"..."

Not only did this place look like a lavish restaurant but it seemed that the inside looked more like a bar than an actual bar.

Hecathe frowned as he skillfully avoided all the drunk people swinging here and there. He headed straight for the main table where there was a man dressed neatly with a paper and pen in hand, noting down something.

"Excuse me," Hecathe called out to him, his voice as cold and unbothered as ever.

The man glanced down at the poster held by Hecathe as he questioned, "Are you here for the mission?"

Hecathe nodded his head as he replied, "That's right."

The man carefully looked up and down at Hecathe before he spoke, "You can join the team C. It's still lacking a member."

Hecathe had no idea how this whole guild and the mission system worked so he simply decided to nod as if he knew everything.

"Follow me," The man spoke as he turned and started walking.

Hecathe followed after the man without hesitation as he glanced at the drunk people for one last time and he was glad he did cause if he didn't, he would have never been able to notice that they were all not exactly drunk.

"..." Hecathe didn't know if he wanted to laugh or cry as he sensed the eyes boring at his back.

These people were certainly conniving... Pretending to be drunk while they were on their guards against anyone that came.

Hecathe could clearly sense that he was being judged and checked but of course this was only normal considering the fact that he was wearing this cloak and mask.

"Are you good?" The man in front questioned.

"Huh?" Hecathe looked at the man's back as he responded in confusion.

"You must be really confident considering the fact that you didn't even ask what the mission was."

"..."

"It was the first thing everyone asked but you didn't," The man added but his voice held no emotions within it which made it hard for Hecathe to guess what the man was thinking inside his mind.

"Then I'll ask you. What is the mission?"

The man chuckled as he took a few seconds to answer, "Your mission is to bring back mutants."

"Excuse me?" Hecathe felt as if he had heard it wrong.

"Is there some problem with your ear?"

"..."

"Your mission is to bring back mutants. They don't necessarily need to be alive." The man repeated himself with a sigh.

"Why?" Hecathe unconsciously asked and it made the man turn around to glare at Hecathe.

"Let me make this clear right now since it seems that it's your first time here. We hire you for a temporary mission but that does not mean you can ask us questions."

Hecathe was a bit stunned to see the attitude that the man gave him as he spoke.

"The question 'why' is forbidden to you."

Hecathe's lips curled up in a smirk as he heard this, "Then if I become a permanent member, would you tell me?"

"..." The man blinked in shock as he stared back at Hecathe for a solid minute before breaking out laughing, "Young man, you're too ambitious!"

Hecathe also chuckled dryly together with the man but there was no joy in his voice as he listened to the man continue.

"It's not that easy to become a permanent member. You would at least need to be a rising genius for us to consider."

"A rising genius?" Hecathe repeated with a smirk, "That does not answer my question."

The man stopped laughing as his eyes narrowed down on Hecathe, "What?"

"You didn't tell me the answer to my question," Hecathe repeated as he informed, "Would being a permanent member give me the answer to that 'why'?"

It looked like it was the first time this man had met such a proud person like Hecathe so every time Hecathe said something inconsiderate, it was like a shock for this man.
