Chapter 64 - The Rare Flower

The auctioneer also looked around for a minute as he waited to see if there was anyone with deeper pockets who was just really hungry for a fried Dorgon Egg, but as expected, even Raven had backed down from this bidding war so it need not even be said that nobody else dared to fight Hecathe either.

Hecathe smirked in satisfaction as he heard the silence that was followed by the auctioneer's announcement.

"T-then Ten trilled Lenix going once!"

"Master... You weren't kidding when you said you were the villain..." The Dorgon commented and Hecathe simply chuckled as he heard this.

"Going twice!"

Hecathe didn't expect anyone to place a higher bid and just as he had predicted, there was nobody desperate enough to waste away their money like that.

"Going thrice!" The auctioneer took a sharp breath in as he announced loudly and clearly, "And sold!"

"The Dorgon Egg is now sold to the lovely gentleman sitting up in seat 17 for ten trillion Lenix!"

Everyone's eyes were on Hecathe now and Hecathe couldn't be least bothered about it as he continued to talk with the Dorgon Egg in a low volume, making it look as if he was talking to himself since nobody else could hear the Dorgon's voice.

"I feel like I did something useless," Hecathe sighed dejectedly as he heard the auctioneer announcing that Hecathe had won the bid.

"Humans like you are scary," The Dorgon commented and Hecathe could almost imagine the dorgon shuddering inside that egg as he said this.

"I should have just placed one trillion. It would have been enough and I would have been able to save a lot."

"Are you saying that I'm not even worth your ten trillion useless human currency?!"

Hecathe unhesitantly nodded his head as he responded, "It's a fact. The sooner you accept it, the better your life would be."

"..."

"If you don't want to accept it, why don't you try to prove me wrong?" Hecathe simply questioned and didn't wait for an answer as he added, "You can work and repay the money I spent on you."

"What a cheapskate?! You want to ask the great emperor to repay you?! Haven't you ever heard about generosity? The more good you do, the bigger your heart is and the lesser risks you'll have of getting heart failure!"

Hecathe blinked in confusion as he slowly absorbed the Dorgon's words, "You know... I might just want to buy you some books on biology after this... That's not how a heart works."

"Hmph!"

"If you want to show that attitude, why don't you show it after you are done repaying me?" Hecathe clicked his tongue.

"I feel like I'm the one who was dumb enough to take you in as my master," The Dorgon complained and Hecathe turned a deaf ear to his complaints, "I have a feeling that you're going to torture me till I repay you!"

"You're not exactly wrong."

"..."

The item displayed changed once again as the Dorgon Egg was taken away and the next item was displayed on the hovering glass box.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we bring you the next item of the day, the rare flower!" The auctioneer announced and Hecathe's eyes widened in shock as he saw that the next item displayed was not an item at all...!

This auction... The more he stayed here the more he realized that this was really a black-market auction. Everything that could not be sold legally was sold openly here.

The girl that was tied up inside the glass box was a perfect example.

She wore beige-colored clothes that had been soiled and were torn from the edge, displaying her pale skin that was dirty and smudged. It was clear that she hadn't been fed well or treated well. Her feet were bleeding with blisters on them and her face was covered with her overgrown hair that nobody bothered to groom.

Both her wrists and ankles were chained up and if the chains were removed, Hecathe was sure that he would be able to see bruises left behind by those chains.

"This rare flower was collected just a few weeks ago!" The auctioneer didn't seem to be considering this girl a human as he continued on with his announcement, "I wouldn't say much about this product since everyone can see it for themselves. Even the dirt on her fails to hide away her beauty!"

Hecathe didn't know if he wanted to laugh or cry as he heard this since he almost wanted to nod as he agreed with the auctioneer.

She was covered in dirt and bruises, however, she still looked pretty. If someone were to clean her up a bit and feed her, Hecathe had no doubt that she would perhaps look like the goddess of beauty.

"The starting bid for this rare flower is Ten thousand Lenix!"

"Wah~" Hecathe couldn't help but mutter in surprise as he heard the auctioneer announcing such a low price for a human life.

The rare flower was just another pretty name that people in auction houses would give for a slave.

Even in this world, buying and selling humans was not exactly common. Slave trading was naturally not a huge industry either. Both the three willows of spring and Alphius had laws forbidding slave trading which made this black market the only place where people could buy slaves.

Such slaves were referred to as the rare flower and they were often sold for a very high price.

"Twenty thousand Lenix placed by the gentlemen up at seat 76!" People soon started bidding on the girl and Hecathe couldn't help but frown.

This was really not supposed to concern him or bother him but for some reason, he couldn't help but feel a little uneasy as he saw such a practice of selling humans as if they were products.

He still had those undamaged mutant beads left with him so if he wanted to save this girl, he could very well do so, however, Hecathe had zero interest in saving her.
