Chapter 74 - The Rare Exceptions

It wasn't often when the guild actively took in members so it was truly a bit surprising that Hecathe had managed to impress them with a single mission.

If Hecathe were to tell her how he had impressed them or if he were to say anything about the deal he had with Kelly, the woman would probably faint from the shock. Perhaps because of this, Hecathe decided not to explain anything in detail, or maybe he was just not bothered enough to narrate the whole incident to the woman.

"Didn't you trust me when you gave me the job?" Hecathe's eyes narrowed down on the woman as he questioned.

The landlady chuckled as she immediately responded, "Of course, I had faith in you! Isn't that why I'm willing to let you stay here?"

Hecathe didn't look to be very impressed as he heard this but he would naturally not comment on this topic.

"Since you've already gotten the answer you were looking for, may I go now?" Hecathe sighed as he asked.

"You must be tired!" The woman exclaimed and her face was full of smiles, showing that she was clearly happy to hear that Hecathe had managed to enter the guild.

"Good night," Hecathe smiled as he wished the woman and turned to head up the stairs, towards his own room.

"Master, who was she?" The Dorgon immediately asked once they were out of the woman's sight.

"She's the landlady," Hecathe answered before questioning, "Why are you asking?"

"She has eight legs," The Dorgon responded, pointing out the obvious that Hecathe was already aware of, however, Hecathe still couldn't help but laugh as he heard the Dorgon's amused tone.

"Master, what is she?"

"I don't know. Probably something between a human and a mutant," Hecathe shrugged his shoulder as he opened the door to his room and entered inside before closing the door after him.

"All humans are exposed to Zelium here and once they are injected with that stuff, there are three common outcomes. They either become a mage after developing an ability, become a mutant who is no longer treated like a human, or have no reaction at all," Hecathe added as he informed.

"But she doesn't fit in any of those categories," The Dorgon pointed out in confusion.

"That's right," Hecathe nodded his head as he responded, "Because the results mentioned are the most common ones, but this doesn't mean that it would necessarily have to be one of those. In rare cases, the results are completely unpredictable."

The Dorgon scoffed as he heard this, "Then she is the one to blame for injecting that stuff."

Hecathe chuckled as if he had heard something amusing, "I thought you were the all-knowing Dorgon. How come you don't know this?"

"..."

"In this world, it is important to inject yourself with Zelium," Hecathe sighed as he explained, "Since birth, every human is exposed to a natural zelium that is present inside their body. If they don't inject themselves with Zelium after birth, there is a good chance that they might die before even reaching the age of twenty. The Zelium inside their body, in that case, would turn into a poison that would shorten their lifespan."

Back in his real world, there was certainly someone who had tried to inject Zelium into his body, but the result was death. Now that Hecathe knew such a thing about Zelium after coming to this world, he could understand why people died after injecting Zelium in his real world. It was because they didn't have that natural Zelium inside their bodies so the injected Zelium acted against their system.

The Dorgon was quite shocked as he heard this and the only thing he could say as a response was, "You humans are so weak...!"

Hecathe chuckled as he nodded his head and agreed with the Dorgon, "Humans are certainly weak, but since you're born as a Dorgon, you would never be able to relate."

"Of course, I won't!" The Dorgon breathed out with confidence, "We were born stronger and superior! How can you even compare our species to humans?!"

Hecathe smirked as he heard this expected response, "Then I wonder why such a superior strong species was able to be captured so easily by a weak human?"

"..."

"You were even thought as breakfast," Hecathe added with a chuckle as he still found it a bit funny.

"I'm not talking to you anymore!" The Dorgon retorted angrily as if it had been wronged and Hecathe only laughed in response.

Hecathe took out the compressed bag from his pocket and placed it on a table as he opened it and took out the egg.

Now that he took a closer look at the egg, he couldn't help but feel that it looked really different from any ordinary egg he had ever seen. It was a lot bigger in size than an ostrich egg and had a really unique color. It was surely white but at times, it would reflect a blue hue that added to a more mystical look.

The shell was quite hard and would surely only be able to be broken by force.

Hecathe sighed as he crumpled up some clothes and placed the egg on top of it, thinking that it would prevent the egg from rolling off of the table.

"I'm gonna take a good rest now," Hecathe sighed as he informed, "By the time I'm awake, you better be out of there. You hear me?"

"..." The Dorgon was silent, making it seem as if the creature was still angry at Hecathe for teasing him a bit too much.

Hecathe chuckled as he patted the egg and spoke, "If you don't even give me a hum, I'm cooking you before going to bed."

"Yes, Master," The Dorgon didn't sound happy at all  but he did sound a bit intimidated as he answered.

Hecathe smiled in satisfaction as he stood up and took off the mask and cloak before throwing it aside and changing his clothes into something more comfortable. He sighed as he looked around the room and noticed the dirt that had piled up in this place.

Someone needed to clean it, but Hecathe was sure that he would definitely not be that someone.
