Chapter 148 - Pity For The Mecha-suits

If truth be told, Hecathe felt pity for these white masks. They considered Alphius as their God but that God only ever wanted to run away from them. The underground shrine they had built for him would surely keep him safe but it didn't change the fact that he hated it.

Alphius would have preferred it more if he was not such an important person to the mecha-suits. After all, Alphius was the type of person who liked to lay low. He liked to be free of any responsibilities because only by being free could he be creative and make more great innovative useful things that this world needed.

In Alphius's diary, it was never written if he truly hated the underground world or not. In fact, there were a few lines about him saying how comfortable he was when he was up in his room all day.

It was truly pitiful to think that their God was not happy with whatever they were providing him.

The mecha-suit took a minute to realize that the mutants were no longer interested in him and as soon as this realization dawned on him, he pushed himself off of the ground and glared at Hecathe but said nothing.

"I'm done here," Hecathe sighed as he spoke.

Marvin and LeiLei looked to be a little shocked as they saw this.

"We are leaving it at that?" LeiLei asked with confusion and shock.

Hecathe nodded his head, "I have nothing more to ask."

"..."

The other two were left shocked and couldn't even move an inch. Even the mecha-suit looked to be stunned as he couldn't figure out what to do next.

He was sure that this Hecathe was looking for a fight with him so how come he simply got ready to leave the mecha-suit alone just like that…?

Hecathe sighed as he turned around and got ready to leave the place.

The metallic suit had been broken by the mutants and was now enough to keep the mutants busy.

Since Hecathe hadn't instructed the mutants to kill the mecha-suit, the man was completely safe from them even if he was left alone with them.

Marvin and LeiLei gulped as they looked at each other with a blank stare and said nothing before following after Hecathe like baby chicks following their mother.

"Sir, are you sure you want to leave just like that?" LeiLei questioned as she blinked in surprise, not understanding why the man had decided to abruptly leave like that in the middle of a conversation.

Hecathe immediately came to a stop as he heard the girl and he took a sharp breath in as he loudly spoke to the mecha-suit, "Your leader ran away from you because he no longer wanted to be imprisoned in that underground jail. When you decided to go after him, did you really think he would be happy with your decision…?"

It was a question that need not be answered.

The mecha-suit was silent as he heard this and looked as if he was thinking deeply about it.

"If you truly respect him then you should also respect his choices," Hecathe clicked his tongue as he continued, "The only thing you can do for him is simply nothing. Just be there when he needs you and stand aside to watch the show that he puts on for you."

The mecha-suit clearly didn't understand the underlying meaning behind Hecathe's words, but he was still left at a loss for words as he felt that Hecathe was speaking the truth.

"Now, I'm really going," Hecathe sighed as he started walking once again and left the place.

LeiLei and Marvin looked at the mecha-suit for one last time as they heard Hecathe's words and although they had no prior information about what exactly was happening, they still felt a little bad for the mecha-suit who certainly looked pitiful at this moment.

The mecha-suit clearly didn't notice the dramatic looks that he had received today but Hecathe's words were already enough to leave a big impression on him.

LeiLei and Marvin also continued moving shortly after as they followed Hecathe.

"Now where do we go?" Marvin asked as he stretched his arms.

Hecathe frowned as he heard this questioned and side-glanced at the boy as he asked, "Do you know what time it is?"

Marvin, "..."

They had been fighting at inhuman morning hours and the fight had been so intense that they had forgotten how it was 5 a.m. in the morning.

LeiLei suddenly yawned as she looked at the sky that had slowly started to light up.

"I guess we aren't getting any sleep today," The girl dejectedly sighed as she muttered.

"You can stay in and sleep today," Hecathe spoke as he also sighed.

Now that the fight was over, the exhaustion caused was finally kicking in.

Marvin felt as if his whole body was hurting while LeiLei simply felt as if she was about to pass out at any second now.

Perhaps, Hecathe was the only one who looked to be somewhat okay. He didn't feel sleepy nor did his body hurt and this was all because of the precious healing/regenerating ability that Alphius had.

At times like this, Hecathe seriously felt that he was lucky. If he had not gotten Alphius's body then he would have also been just as exhausted and miserable as the other two.

LeiLei looked at Hecathe in surprise as she took a minute to respond to his words, "Sir, are you letting me take a day off?"

Hecathe simply nodded his head as he confirmed it and the girl looked to be even more stunned as she muttered in disbelief, "Wha~ I never knew our Hecathe was so caring..."

"..." Hecathe really didn't know how he was supposed to react to that so he pursed his lips into a thin line and kept quiet, not daring to say anything.

"But sir, what about our mission?" LeiLei curiously asked, "Are the mecha-suits just going to stop because of this?"

Hecathe nodded his head as he spoke, "They might not stop looking for the boy but they would certainly stop harassing strangers in Ocasia. A man once bitten by a crocodile would never dare to put his hand inside the water again."

LeiLei gulped as she heard this but although the girl couldn't fully comprehend what the saying meant, she still nodded her head as she got the gist of it.

"Are you sure about that?" It was Marvin who questioned with a frown this time.

Hecathe was silent and it took him a minute to respond as he shook his head and answered honestly, "We can never be sure about anything in life. All we can do is try our best to make sure that the best possible outcome comes true but whether that outcome really does happen or not is something that we cannot control no matter how hard we try."

"Then what happens if they continue harassing people? And what if this time they get more agitated and start seriously fighting the guilds in Ocasia out of spite?" Marvin's frown deepened as he questioned without missing a beat.

"Then we try to come up with a different solution," Hecathe shrugged his shoulders as he casually answered, "If one plan fails then we try another. There is nothing more to that. You must always make sure that you have enough doors in a room so that when one closes, you can open the other."

"..."

For some reason, Marvin had the feeling that the man was simply bullsh*ting at this point.

"Sir, what if there is only one door and you were forced to go in that room? How would you deal with such a situation?" LeiLei enthusiastically questioned as she looked at the man with her big black eyes and innocently blinked, waiting for an answer.

Hecathe couldn't help but let out a small dry chuckle as he heard this question, "If something like that happens, you simply open the closed door."

LeiLei's eyes widened slightly and her feelings at the moment were clearly written on her face. She looked as if she was questioning her own intelligence and wondering how she didn't come up with this answer that was so obvious.

Marvin who heard this response from the man couldn't help but scoff as he rolled his eyes. He really couldn't understand whether Hecathe was simply dumb or just too confident.

Hecathe stretched his hands as he yawned, "Let's go back home now. It's already late. You two don't have to come tomorrow. You can sleep in. As for me, I'll go in early and report this to Kelly first."

LeiLei clicked her tongue as she heard this and her eyebrows seemed to have creased together as she grumbled, "You are always trying to be alone with her."

Hecathe chuckled as he heard this and teased the girl as he playfully asked, "Why? Are you jealous?"

LeiLei's eyes widened and the girl seriously looked as if she had not seen this response coming.

"Jealous?! Me?!" She sounded offended for some reason...
