Hecathe couldn't help but chuckle as he heard this.
It was only natural that the man was not able to find Hecathe.
Scolding someone for being useless with something that couldn't be helped... It was simply wasteful and a bit pointless as well.
"Sir, when Asgarian spoke about a pest, was he talking about you?" LeiLei tilted her head as she casually asked and Hecathe almost choked on his own chuckle as he heard the girl.
"W-What makes you think that?" Hecathe asked as he coughed.
"Because you are too interested in this," LeiLei pointed out, "You were supposed to focus on the part where I remember his angry voice but you focused on the irrelevant part that is not even connected to the topic."
Hecathe pursed his lips into a thin line as he heard this and there was nothing he could say as a defense for himself since he had been a little careless.
Marvin clicked his tongue as he helped Hecathe out, "LeiLei, isn't it a good thing that we are not suspecting you anymore? Why do you want to hit a nail into your own hand?"
LeiLei gulped as she heard the boy and couldn't help but frown as she realized that his words made sense. Such questions were not really helpful for her and in fact, they were actually harming her more than helping her.
"You're right..." LeiLei muttered before she fell silent for a few minutes.
Before anyone could say anything more, LeiLei yawned as she exclaimed, "I'm suddenly feeling really sleepy!~ Wouldn't want to hit any more nails into my own hand so you guys should also go to bed now."
Marvin chuckled under his breath as he heard this and the boy wasn't looking to waste time as he nodded his head and turned around to leave the girl's room.
"Are you going to be okay even if you are alone here?" Hecathe asked with a small frown as he worried about the girl.
LeiLei's lips curled up in a smirk as she heard this question and she sarcastically responded back as she asked, "Wasn't it you who threw me out of your room? It's too late to ask that question, isn't it?"
"..."
Hecathe gulped as he pursed his lips into a thin line and nodded his head, "In that case, Goodnight. See you tomorrow."
LeiLei chuckled as she saw the man immediately leaving the room.
Surprisingly enough, outside the door, Marvin was waiting for him and once Hecathe was out, the boy asked with a sigh, "So it was really not Alphius who killed her father?"
Hecathe nodded his head as he also sighed out, "What she said makes sense. It can't be Alphius."
"Then we have to help her find the killer," Marvin replied without missing a beat, and Hecathe couldn't help but agree with the boy.
Helping her find her father's real killer... It was the least they could do for her.
"And if it turns out that Asgarian is behind this murder as well... I'm gonna personally chop him into bits," Marvin gritted out as he added with a bit of anger and Hecathe let out a small chuckle as he once again nodded his head and agreed with the boy.
Even if Marvin didn't chop the culprit into bits, Hecathe would surely do it.
"By the way, are you dying or something?" Marvin side-glanced at Hecathe as he asked.
"Eh?"
"Back at the auction house, you told the man that your stocks would be transferred to me after your death," Marvin pointed out.
"Oh, that?" Hecathe chuckled as he spoke, "The shares are transferred under the name of your father but as you can already see, your father is not really alive."
"..."
Marvin's lips turned down in a frown as he started to understand what went on around Hecathe's mind when he was buying the auction house.
This man didn't want his name to be related to this at all and although he acted as if he was the one putting himself in danger all the time, in reality, he was tricking other people and there was nothing more to it than that.
Hecathe was really a cunning one although he mostly seemed as if he wasn't.
By dragging Orgon into this, not only had Hecathe set up a trap but he had also kept his own name and identity out of the trap.
"It doesn't really matter if I die or not because you would still be the owner," Hecathe smiled as he spoke, "Because the great Orgon is already dead."
Marvin let out a small dry chuckle as he heard this, "Then you plan on making me the scapegoat in everything you do...?"
Hecathe also chuckled as he heard this but said nothing more as he walked forward and left the boy behind.
Marvin's eyes narrowed down on Hecathe's moving back as he thought about things a bit more deeply.
Was it really a good idea to partner up with this unpredictable man that could throw you in front of a moving train if there were benefits in it for him?
Any sane person would be able to answer this question straightforwardly without even needing to think about it and only a daring person would be willing to put the odds to the test.
And although Marvin was a sane person, he was also daring enough to put it to the test.
Afterall, in this world, there was no longer anyone that he could trust. The ones that he did trust ended up betraying him so this Hecathe who came from another world was clearly a better option compared to the others.
Marvin sighed as he shook his head in disbelief and went back to his room.
The next day, Marvin and LeiLei woke up to find that Hecathe had already left the place first and headed to the guild without them.
"Don't worry. I just gave him a job," The landlady winked mischievously as she reassured but her words were clearly not reassuring.
LeiLei and Marvin were left a little confused but when they tried to get more information out of the woman, the woman simply refused to say anything further and avoided the question.
LeiLei and Marvin shared a look in confusion and surprise as they both had the same question in mind: What would the landlady ask Hecathe to do?
That day, before LeiLei and Marvin woke up, Hecathe had headed down to the kitchen to get the Dorgon some food but it was only natural that he had came accoss the landlady on the way and when the landlady saw that the man was alone this time, she decided to use this opportunity to talk about something important.
The landlady handed him a photo with a smile as she spoke, "It's been quite some time since you have started working there. This should be more than enough time for you to get along with the people there, right?"
Hecathe frowned a little as he heard this but in the end, he still nodded his head.
"That's good!" The woman exclaimed as she continued, "Then it is now time for you to find her."
Hecathe's frown deepened as he heard this but when he thought about it a bit more, he understood what the woman was talking about.
The reason why the woman rented this place out to him for almost free and the reason why he joined the guild was because this landlady was trying to spy on a particular mage and since Hecathe had now gotten used to the guild, it was time for him to complete the task that had been requested by her.
Hecathe sighed as he nodded his head and responded, "I'll tell you everything I get to find."
The landlady smiled brightly as she heard this and nodded her head in understanding, "In that case, I'll be counting on you."
Once Hecathe stepped out of the apartment, he flipped the photo that the woman had given to him and looked at the woman that was photographed.
Hecathe's eyes widened slightly and he didn't know if he was supposed to laugh or cry as he saw the familiar woman's photo.
This world was really a small place... So small that the girl photographed was none other than Zather.
"So Zather actually works for the guild?" Hecathe muttered a question to himself as he found the scenario almost a bit funny.
Alphius was never interested in knowing anything about Zather, he only considered her as a useful person that was good at her job and nothing more. Hence, it was only natural that the boy was unaware about this fact and never bothered to write it down in his diary.
This made things a bit easy for Hecathe but at the same time, it also made things a bit complicated.
He already knew Zather so finding more information on her was not going to be hard.
However, her being involved with the landlady was a bit suspicious since the two didn't even look like the types that would ever cross paths with each other.
At the end of the day, Hecathe would certainly be naive if he were not to find this suspicious.
