Chapter 173 - You're A Cunning One.

"The three willows of spring were dependent on the weekly report that he sends them and according to them, he had been sending the weekly report every week without fail," Marvin smirked as he spoke, "The only difference now is that he's not the one writing the weekly reports anymore. It's me."

Hecathe's eyes widened ever so slightly as he heard this and for the first time, he felt as if Marvin was a bit too sharp. He had not acted on impulse. Rather, he had actually planned it all out beforehand.

"You're a cunning one," Hecathe commented and Marvin didn't know if he was supposed to take this as a compliment or not.

"As soon as the task is completed, I'll let him go," Marvin reassured.

Hecathe nodded his head in understanding as he heard this and asked, "Then what if the task takes longer than expected. If things don't go well on our first try, we would be forced to wait and try again. That may eventually take more time than we'd expect."

"Then we'll just have to make sure that we get it done on the first try itself," Marvin responded with a small smile and Hecathe would certainly be lying if he said that he wasn't a bit surprised to hear such an answer from this boy.

Only Hecathe would dare to make such confident statements, but now that Marvin was the one saying them, it felt a little surprising and refreshing.

Hecathe let out a small sigh that almost sounded like a chuckle and asked, "This still doesn't explain why this place smells so much like death."

Marvin shrugged his shoulders innocently as he pointed at the man, "It's because of him. He has the ability to connect with the dead."

Hecathe's eyebrows creased together as he heard this and he got a little interested to hear more about this.

"What do you mean he connects with the dead?" Hecathe asked with a small frown.

"The spirits of the dead are attracted to him and in some cases, he can talk to them and find out how they died. It's a really useful skill, however, there is still a limitation. If the body of the spirit has been dead for more than a week, he would no longer be able to talk to it."

Hecathe gulped as he heard this and he seemed to have suddenly seen this as a great chance that had been missed, "If it's such a useful ability, why didn't you use it to communicate with your father?"

With all things considered, when Marvin's father had freshly died, this man was still working for Marvin completely so if he had heard something from Orgon's spirit then he wouldn't lie about it to Marvin.

Marvin sighed as he heard Hecathe's question and looked to be a bit disappointed as he responded, "He was the reason why I believed Asgarian."

Hecathe couldn't help but feel a little confused as he heard this, but at the same time, he also felt as if he could guess and put the pieces together on his own if he wanted to.

"This guy works for Asgarian," Marvin revealed as he looked at the unconscious man lying on the bed, "He shifted the moment my father died. In fact, the next day itself, the two came to meet me together and said they had something to talk about."

Hecathe's eyebrows creased together as he heard this but he didn't say anything and instead, he patiently waited to hear the rest.

"I didn't know what it was but since I trusted them, I agreed to talk. Asgarian revealed that Alphius was the one behind my father's death and to further prove his words, this bastard also gave a false claim to have talked to my father's spirit who was filled with thoughts of revenge."

Hecathe could finally understand why Marvin had been so easily fooled.

"On top of that, they also brought proof that Alphius was there. Or at least, his mecha-suit had been..." Marvin sighed as he spoke and his disappointment in himself could clearly be seen on his face and felt in his voice, "It was a perfect trap for me and for Alphius as well. It wasn't until later that I started to question it and realized that my father would never be filled with revenge against Alphius. Even if Alphius were to cold-heartedly kill him, he would still not feel revengeful against him."

Hecathe tilted his head in confusion as he heard this and he couldn't hold himself back anymore so he asked, "Why is that?"

"Because my father still blames himself for the death of the great Edler," Marvin sighed as he revealed and Hecathe was a bit surprised.

Hecathe knew that the great Edler had died during a Dorgon hunt and had been brutally killed by those creatures, however, he didn't have details of the event and since it was such a shocking and traumatizing incident, even Alphius hadn't written about it in detail in his diary.

"He feels guilty even though it wasn't exactly his fault and because of that guilt, he has always felt as if he owes it to Alphius. He didn't want me to associate with Alphius because he feared that history would repeat itself."

"..."

Hecathe could see that Marvin was being honest, but at the same time, he couldn't help but believe that these honest words were no better than bullsh*t.

This man named Orgon just had to be an idiot if these were his thoughts that even his son could see.

"Why does your father blame himself for Edler's death?" Hecathe asked as he tried to remain respectful and didn't outrightly curse the boy's father for believing in nonsense.

"Because they were both there," Marvin simply shrugged his shoulders as he revealed, "If my father had wanted, he could have saved him, but he didn't because he was frozen in fear. In front of a whole army, he could stand his footing and fight off the enemy but in front of an angry Dorgon that was trying to protect its egg, my father was frozen in fear and couldn't even save his own friend."

Hecathe frowned as he heard this but didn't say anything as he let the boy complete.

"He was a coward who was afraid to admit that he was one and hence, he ran away from the truth. There are not many people in this world who know what happened that day and those who do have promised not to leak the truth."

"Then why are you telling me this?" Hecathe asked with a small frown.

"Because you wanted to know...?" Marvin responded casually.

"..."

"However, this truth holds no importance anymore," Marvin added with a sigh, "Edler is already dead and so is my father."

Hecathe nodded his head as he agreed with the boy, but he could still not help but sigh as he found it a bit funny how even the great Orgon had something that he wanted to hide from the world.

Hecathe could sense that this topic wasn't really something pleasant to talk about for Marvin and so, he no longer asked anymore questions about it and decided to change the topic.

"LeiLei told me that you guys had found the house."

Marvin nodded his head as he confirmed this, "We did, but we couldn't find the owner."

Hecathe nodded his head as he heard this and spoke, "Then let's go there again and find the new owner."

"When?"

"Tomorrow," Hecathe answered without missing a beat and Marvin looked to be a little horrified as he heard this.

"You're joking... Right?" Marvin asked in disbelief but unfortunately, Hecathe was certainly not joking when he said that.

Hecathe's lips curled up into a small mischievous smile as he shook his head and responded, "I don't joke around about things like this."

"..."

That house was like a rollercoaster ride located in hell and both LeiLei and Marvin had already experienced it once so they had absolutely zero interest in going there again.

Marvin gulped as he spoke, "I am injured and tired. Why don't you go and check it out by yourself?"

"Because I'm not familiar with the place. Since you two have already gone there, you are a bit more familiar, don't you think so?" Hecathe tilted his head with a smile as he asked and Marvin almost wanted to curse at the man.

"You're trying to kill us, aren't you?" Marvin asked in disbelief and Hecathe couldn't help but chuckle in amusement as he heard this.

"Don't worry. Humans don't die off that easily," Hecathe responded with a chuckle, but Marvin didn't find this funny at all.

"..."

At the end of the day, Hecathe had already managed to make LeiLei agree and so, it was only natural that after some persuasion and argument, Marvin would also reluctantly agree.

Shockingly enough, it only took about ten minutes to make Marvin agree and Hecathe was a bit surprised with himself when he finally saw the boy nodding his head with a sigh.
