"There is no evidence to prove that Dorgon's can be controlled by men but that is not because there had been no one who could control it," Lara smirked as she spoke, "It is simply because of the lack of evidence. In reality, there have been accounts of Dorgon's being controlled by humans."
Hecathe gulped as he heard this and his eyebrows drew closer together as he felt a little shocked and lost.
"It's just that there is only one family that is said to have such an amazing gift," Lara sighed out, "And that family has been purposefully keeping it as a secret."
Hecathe's eyes slowly widened with realization and before he could ask anything, Lara clarified his doubts.
"You're right. The Family of Orgons. They come from an imperial lineage of the old rulers. Their celestial light ability made people consider them as a king who rules the world. Even Dorgons would readily listen to their commands."
Hecathe gulped as he heard this and his eyes widened even more as he suddenly remembered something that Marvin had once told him.
"How can that be...?" Hecathe muttered in disbelief, "There must be a mistake! If they could control Dorgons then why would Edler... Die?"
As Hecathe spelled out the question, he finally found another truth that he wished he didn't know.
Marvin had told him that his father always felt guilty for the death of the great Edler, however, Hecathe simply reassured the boy that it was probably not his father's fault since Dorgons had always been such vicious creatures that could not be stopped. In fact, when he had said that, he was sure Marvin's father couldn't have done anything to save the great Edler even if he had tried to.
However, now that this new piece of information was revealed, Hecathe finally understood why that man felt guilty and he also understood what Marvin seemed to have been hiding from him.
"How does it feel to know that you are trying to avenge the murder of a man who killed the great Edler?" Lara chuckled as she mockingly asked, "And that too, while inside Alphius' body...?"
Hecathe gulped as he heard this but said nothing.
"I am not your enemy," Lara added with a wicked smile, "If anything, you should be thanking me for showing you the right way."
Hecathe held his head down as he heard this and Lara thought her method of emotionally manipulating the man was working, however, at the very next moment, Hecathe's shoulders began shaking and he broke out laughing.
"Huh...?" Lara's eyebrows creased together and she took a step back as she saw such a reaction that almost made it seem as if the man had gone completely crazy.
"You seem to have a lot of nonsense to spout," Hecathe scoffed, "But tell me why I should trust anything you say."
Lara frowned as she heard this.
"It won't even be the first time that you'd be lying."
"Hecathe..." This time, it was not Alora that spoke up. Instead, it was LeiLei, "I never lied to you about anything."
Hecathe stopped laughing and felt a bitter taste in his mouth as he heard these shameless words.
"You never lied?" Hecathe's eyes twitched as he clicked his tongue, "Why don't you go and tell that to someone who is actually dumb enough to believe you."
"She's not lying, Hecathe." Lara chuckled as she spoke up in defense, "We had always treated you sincerely. There might have been a few things that we hid from you but except for that, everything we said was indeed the truth."
Hecathe frowned as he heard this and pointed out, "Then I supposed it wasn't a lie when you claimed yourself as the daughter of Dorka's brother."
"Of course not," Lara tilted her head and stated without any hesitation.
"But you see, that man only had a single child so how can there be two of you?" Hecathe pointed at the two accusingly as he spoke.
Lara chuckled as she heard this and LeiLei sighed.
"I guess that has been bothering you," Lara spoke with a chuckle, "You're right, he only had one daughter. But what makes you think the two of us are different?"
"Huh?"
Lara's smile deepened and there seemed to be a dark aura around her as she removed the hood of the cloak and revealed her face.
"You see," The girl spoke slowly, "LeiLei and Lara. They are one and the same."
Hecathe's eyes widened in horror as he saw Lara's true face that was almost identical to LeiLei's face, however, her eyes were blind and the top half of her face had been completely burned.
"H-How can this be...?!" Hecathe gulped as he faltered a step back in horror.
"I told you already, didn't I?" Lara tilted her head as she chuckled mockingly, "If you had looked closer, you might have been able to see the truth."
Hecathe felt his breath getting stuck in his throat and he was no longer sure about anything.
"Now that I remember it, I do believe there is one thing that I lied to you about," Lara suddenly spoke up as she clapped her hands once, "When I told you that my parents had died, I lied. My father had indeed passed away but before he could die, he gave over his abilities to my mother, and hence, my mother was able to get me out of there."
Hecathe's eyebrows creased together as he remembered the landlady who had treated him warmly and used him to carry out Lara's plan.
"However, I had lost the ability to see and my face turned out to be like this so there was no way I'd be able to live an ordinary life. I guess it started from then on out, plotting an act of perfect revenge," Surprisingly enough, Lara looked to be really enthusiastic as she finally got the chance to say everything out loud.
"Before she married my father, My mother wasn't a mage. She was a witch, a really skilled one at that. She helped me make LeiLei. The living pawn that was meant to both live and die for me. Making her was easy. After all, her body and appearance were based on me and she even received my altered memories. Even my father's abilities were given to her. However, my mother's work wasn't perfect, and hence although LeiLei came to exist, she couldn't become a person of her own."
Hecathe glanced at LeiLei and all he saw was a human that he had interacted with and personally known. He didn't care about anything that Lara said 'cause it was all a bit too ridiculous for him.
"In the end, I had to place a part of my own soul in her," Lara continued with a small smile, "Surprisingly enough, it all worked out and she finally became what we had wanted her to become."
"A pawn that would replace you and receive your misfortunes instead...?" Hecathe's lips twitched as he questioned.
Lara unhesitantly nodded her head as she confirmed it, "Do you understand now? It didn't matter what tricks you tried in order to have her join you. Since the beginning itself, LeiLei had always been mine."
"Are you God or something...?!" Hecathe clicked his tongue as he snapped, "How can you plan everything so clearly? If I am to believe your words then this grand plan of yours probably started even before I came to this world! How could you have seen so far in the future? It makes no sense."
Lara nodded her head as she agreed with the man, "You are right. It is ridiculous to think that I had made such an elaborate plan. I am no God and hence it is only natural that I was also not aware of how things would turn out. Actually, you might not see it but there were quite a lot of things that didn't go as originally planned."
"Huh?"
"Alphius was supposed to die that day but then you came and interrupted my plans. The original target had been Marvin. He was the one who was supposed to save the Dorgon and he was the one who was supposed to find LeiLei as well. However, your sudden appearance changed things up a bit," Lara spoke carefully as she thought about it for a minute or two, "Even that slave that I sent over. I was sure you'd save her but you chose to save a Dorgon over a human slave. Back then, I thought my plans were going to be ruined by you but luckily enough, my mother wanted to help me and everything worked out smoothly."
Hecathe's face looked to be a little dark as he heard this and he clenched his fist angrily as he stayed silent and listened to the girl.
"You see, at the end of the day, it didn't matter if the chosen target was Marvin or you. All I cared about was the result and you both would have delivered it beautifully."
"..."
Hecathe didn't know if he wanted to applaud the girl for her intelligence or mock her for wasting her time in such a conversation.
'Cause, the reason why he patiently listened till now was not because he was interested, rather, it was because he was buying time and it seemed as if the girl had not noticed this.
